FEA and Motion Simulation: How Engineering Simulation Reduces Production Risk Learn how FEA and motion simulation are used in industrial machine design to identify structural failures and dynamic problems before manufacturing.
Building a machine to discover it fails structurally under load is expensive. The steel has been cut, the components machined, the assembly completed. Modifying the design at that point means rework, scrap, and schedule delay. Finite Element Analysis, applied during the design phase, finds those failures before the first component goes to the machine shop. This is the practical case for simulation in machine design. Not theoretical — the cost of finding a structural or kinematic problem in a CAD model is a fraction of the cost of finding it in a fabricated machine.
