PROGRAM MARCH 22, 2024
“The Greatest Show” is the powerful opening song from the 2017 musical film “The Greatest Showman.” The music and lyrics are by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Sung by Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, the song sets the stage for the grand spectacle that follows in the film, emphasizing the themes of ambition and imagination. The energetic and anthemic nature of the music reflects the larger-than-life story of the legendary circus impresario.
“Singing in the Rain” is a lively and iconic song performed by Gene Kelly in the 1952 film of the same name. The song, with music by Nacio Herb Brown and lyrics by Arthur Freed, was originally introduced on Broadway and in the film, “Hollywood Revue of 1929.” This joyous song is accompanied by a memorable dance sequence in which Kelly dances in the rain, creating one of the most famous scenes in cinematic history. The song encapsulates the exuberance and optimism of the film’s characters during the transition from silent films to talkies.
“Born to Hand Jive” is a lively rock and roll song from the 1978 film version of the 1972 Off-Broadway hit musical “Grease.” Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the music is performed during the high school dance scene, featuring energetic choreography and showcasing the cast’s musical talents. The catchy tune and playful lyrics contribute to the film’s nostalgic portrayal of teenage romance and the vibrant 1950s era.
“Do You Love Me?” is a poignant and memorable song from the classic musical film and stage productions of “Fiddler on the Roof.” Set in the fictional village of Anatevka, the song, with music by Jerry Bock and Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, explores the evolving dynamics of love within a marriage. Tevye, portrayed by Chaim Topol, and Golde, played by Norma Crane, engage in a heartfelt and introspective duet as they ponder the nature of their relationship. The lyrics reflect the challenges and compromises inherent in long-term partnerships, touching upon themes of commitment, duty, and the endurance of love. With its emotional resonance and powerful vocal performances, “Do You Love Me?” stands as a standout moment in the film, capturing the essence of the character’s journey through the complexities of love in the face of cultural and societal changes.
“Luck Be A Lady” is a timeless musical number from the 1955 film adaptation of the Broadway classic “Guys and Dolls.” In this cinematic rendition, the song is performed with captivating charisma by Marlon Brando, who takes on the role of the suave gambler Sky Masterson. The scene unfolds in the bustling atmosphere of a lively craps game, where Brando’s character expresses his conflicting emotions through the lyrics penned by Frank Loesser. As Brando rolls the dice and serenades his love interest, Sarah Brown, portrayed by Jean Simmons, the song becomes a pivotal moment in the film, capturing the tension between love and the thrill of taking risks. Brando’s rendition adds a distinctive touch, making “Luck Be a Lady” an unforgettable and iconic moment in the cinematic adaptation of “Guys and Dolls.”
The “My Fair Lady Medley” encapsulates the timeless charm and brilliance of the 1964 film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. Composed by Frederick Loewe with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, the medley showcases three iconic songs that have become synonymous with the enchanting narrative of “My Fair Lady.” “I Could Have Danced All Night” is a soaring and jubilant expression of Eliza Doolittle’s newfound joy and liberation, beautifully captured in Audrey Hepburn’s captivating performance. The medley also features “I’ve Grown Accustomed to His Face,” a poignant ballad that captures the emotional complexity of Professor Henry Higgins as he grapples with realizing his feelings for Eliza. The tender melody evokes a sense of vulnerability and introspection, making it a standout moment in both the film and the musical. Concluding with the classic “On the Street Where You Live,” the medley takes us through the romantic journey of Freddy Eynsford-Hill, his love for Eliza palpable in the lush orchestration and heartfelt lyrics.

Welcome to our spring concert!
In South Florida, we see a little shift in the temperature when we see changes in our seasons. Still, there are changes all around us this time of year. Even our heatloving tropical plants are pushing out new growth. Just as nature bursts forward with vitality, so does the spirit of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. This evening, I invite you to immerse yourselves in our music, passionately delivered by our growing ensemble of diverse and dedicated singers. They put in countless hours to sing and ceaselessly pursue harmony onstage and in the community.
As we raise our voices tonight, we celebrate great music and our incredible community. However, as we celebrate, we know we still have more to do. This is an election year, making it a crucial time to have public, positive representations of the LGBTQ+ community. And nobody does this better than GMCSF. To do what we do, we must have your financial support. The admissions from tonight’s performance will only cover about 50% of the direct cost of producing and presenting this fabulous concert. We rely on donations and grants to cover the rest of our expenses. Your support is necessary for us to keep bringing quality concerts to South Florida. Please use the enclosed envelope or give online at www.gmcsf.org
Thank you for being here this evening and for showing your continued support. Without you, the music would die. You are a vital part of who we are and what we do, and I thank you so very much.
Sincerely,
GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF SOUTH FLORIDA

GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF SOUTH FLORIDA
WE’VE COME SO FAR IN OUR LIFETIME
Let’s Keep the Momentum Going! So many of us recall when television would never show two people of the same gender sharing a kiss… or holding hands. Now, we live in a time when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality. We’ve accomplished so much, yet there is much more to do. Since the late 1970s, the LGBTQ+ Choral Movement has been a crucial tool for advocacy, unity, and education. GMCSF is proud to continue this legacy through our music. We are pleased to serve as cultural ambassadors for our community and provide a voice for those who do not have one. Help ensure this work continues by joining The Pegasus Society’s planned giving program. In addition, by including GMCSF in your estate planning, you can help sustain our organization and keep our voices carrying long into the future.
We invite you to join the members of The Pegasus Society today. If you want to amend your current estate, contact Mark Kent at (954) 763-2266 ext. 109 or mkent@gmcsf.org.
Establish a Legacy Fund with our community partner, The Our Fund Foundation; contact Mark Blaylock at 954-565-1090 or email MBlaylock@Our-Fund.org.

DONOR HIGHLIGHT
THE CHIC & UNIQUE BALL
THE 2023 GMCSF FUNDRAISER, THE CHIC & UNIQUE BALL DEBUTS TO RAVE REVIEWS!
The theme of our inaugural Chic and Unique Ball on November 4 was “A Red-Carpet Extravaganza.” Our fabulous guests turned out in style! It was a festive evening of food, auctions, and live entertainment as we raised vital cash to support the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. The Ball’s VIP guests began their evening at a cocktail reception on the rooftop of the newly renovated Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort; then, they joined the rest of our fans at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Our heartfelt “thank you” to our fantastic guests and event sponsors, The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Brand g Vacations, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Holy Cross Health, and Rosie’s Bar & Grill, who sponsored in memory of Douglas Jackson Pew.
