COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
“Tom and Dan embody the spirit of community and creativity that Doug Pew championed throughout his life. Their music has inspired countless people, and their dedication to the LGBTQ+ community makes them truly deserving of this honor,” B oykin , GMCSF B oard C hair
Tom Nichols and Dan Chadburn are central figures in LGBTQ+ music and advocacy, and their work continues to leave a profound impact. Last fall, Artistic Director Gabe Salazar invited the pair to compose a song for the 2024 June Pride Concert, Pride: Then, Now, and Forever. This new composition, “We’ve Come Through The Storm,” reflected the multigenerational community of the chorus, celebrating the diversity, strength, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. Their lyrics remind us that although our community is made up of diverse identities and expressions, there is more that connects us than divides us. The song emphasizes the power of unity and collective support, reminding us of the achievements, such as marriage equality and advancements in HIV/AIDS research, that were once unimaginable. Tom and Dan’s musical journey with GALA Choruses has spanned decades, including their composition “I Dream of a Time,” originally performed at the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington’s 20th Anniversary Concert at the Kennedy Center.
Throughout his 40-year music career, Tom has become an accomplished musician, writing and collaborating on hundreds of songs across genres such as classical, folk, rock, and inspirational music. In addition, he has produced several improvisational piano and instrumental works, co-produced an independent musical film, directed choirs, and taught both guitar and voice to aspiring musicians. His business acumen is equally impressive, holding a degree from Virginia Tech. Tom serves as the chief operating

THE GAY MEN’S CHORUS
GMCSF proudly stands as one of the top, award-winning LGBTQ+ nonprofit arts
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
As a founding member and first president, Bill Spinosa’s leadership has been a cornerstone of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF) for over 15 years.
His dedication and strategic guidance have been pivotal in shaping the organization’s growth and impact in the South Florida community. He has been instrumental in leading the organization through periods of expansion, ensuring that the chorus grew in size and its outreach and influence, a feat we can all be proud of. His vision for the GMCSF has always focused on inclusivity, artistic excellence, and community engagement.
In addition to his leadership within the chorus, Bill has made significant contributions as a volunteer and an auctioneer in our major fundraising galas since their inception. His talents in this area have been a vital asset since the first fundraiser when he demonstrated his ability to engage audiences and generate the financial support needed to fulfill the chorus’s mission. Bill’s dynamic presence and persuasive skills as an auctioneer have enabled the GMCSF to raise substantial funds, which have supported the group’s artistic endeavors, outreach programs, and community initiatives. His expertise in this role has helped sustain the organization’s operations, ensuring that the chorus continues to inspire and uplift the LGBTQ+ community through music.
With his passion and dedication, Bill has helped grow the GMCSF’s musical legacy and strengthen its financial foundation, enabling it to thrive and expand its impact. His multifaceted contributions as a leader, donor, singer, and auctioneer been instrumental in shaping the chorus’s success and long-term sustainability. Bill continues to serve on the Board of Directors, is the current VP of Membership, and is an active singer in the baritone section of the organization.

PEGASUS SOCIETY
WE’VE COME SO FAR IN OUR LIFETIME
Let’s Keep the Momentum Going!
So many of us recall when television would never show two people of the same gender sharing a kiss… or holding hands. Now, we live in a time when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality. We’ve accomplished so much, yet there is much more to do. Since the late 1970s, the LGBTQ+ Choral Movement has been a crucial tool for advocacy, unity, and education. GMCSF is proud to continue this legacy through our music. We are pleased to serve as cultural ambassadors for our community and provide a voice for those who do not have one. Help ensure this work continues by joining The Pegasus Society planned giving program. In addition, by including GMCSF in your estate planning, you can help sustain our organization and keep our voices active long into the future.
We invite you to join the members of The Pegasus Society today. If you want to amend your current estate, contact Fidel Garcia at (954) 763-2266 ext. 111 or fgarcia@gmcsf.org. Also, we encourage you to establish a Legacy Fund with our community partner, The Our Fund Foundation; contact Mark Blaylock at 954-565-1090 or email legacy@theourfund.org
