TOWN GUIDE: Discover dog friendly Polperro

A GUIDE TO DOG FRIENDLY POLPERRO

Polperro is the epiphany of Cornish charm, encompassing everything you would want in a fishing village. Pretty cottages nestled in the steep valley lead down to a bustling centre of quaint streets and plenty of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants to enjoy, many of which welcome dogs. Here’s our pick of the best…

The Blue Peter Inn, PL13 2QZ Situated in a prime position near the beach, the Blue Peter Inn is regularly lauded by visitors for its food and drink and the fact the staff really love dogs. As the tagline says: enter as strangers, leave as friends...

The Crumplehorn Inn & Mill, PL13 2R At the top of the village sits this very impressive inn dating back to the 13th century where you can enjoy their famous fish supper and stay in one of their dog friendly rooms.

Bean and Scone, PL13 2RQ Known for its savoury cream teas - cream cheese and chilli jam anyone? - as much as its irresistible selection of cakes, there’s ample room inside for your dog.

The Three Pilchards, PL13 2QZ The oldest pub in the village, this is a beautiful, cosy pub with views overlooking the harbour and delicious home made food.

The Ship Inn, PL13 2QR Reasonably priced food and a great selection of gins and ales, all served by knowledgeable and welcoming staff. And when it’s sunny, you won’t want to leave the beer garden behind in a hurry.

Polperro Harbour Heritage Museum PL13 2RB Enjoy a leisurely walk around this community museum with your dog in tow and learn about the colourful history of the fishing village. Forget Poldark and discover the real life drama of fishing and smuggling from the late 18th Century to date. There’s a remarkable photographic record dating from around 1860 and a wonderful collection of ships models, as well as documents relating to families who lived in the village. The collection is housed in what was the old pilchard factory until the early 20th century.

Walk to Talland Bay You can enjoy a stroll along the coast path to nearby Talland Bay where you will find a dog friendly beach and a cafe. In simple terms, you follow the coast path to the left, keeping the sea on your right, to get to Talland Bay, but you can find more detailed directions and a circular walk on our website:
