Share a Tale with Jane Springham

Join Fire Springs storytellers Kirsty Hartsiotis and Anthony Nanson for a journey into Gloucestershire's legendry otherworld. We’ll venture into the wilder reaches of the county to discover the fairies, ghosts, and other mysterious beings and goings-on out there in the woods and wolds and waterways and on the edges of the imagination. Kirsty’s and Anthony’s books include, among others, Gloucestershire Folk Tales, Gloucestershire Ghost Tales, Gloucestershire Folk Tales for Children, Wiltshire Folk Tales, and Storytelling and Ecology.

Age suitability 14+ years.

Come and join storyteller Jane Springham to hear a Gloucestershire tale or two. Listen to some local folktales that connect with the Gloucestershire landscape – and maybe share one of your own stories (either your favourite fictional tale or a real memory/ story about Gloucestershire that you’d like to share).

Willow Crafting Workshops Willow is a fantastic natural and sustainable resource. Here is your chance to explore the wonders of willow and learn all about this amazing plant and it’s uses. Come and join Linda (from Tump Willows) in this fun and relaxed session where you can create and play. We will be making hearts and flowers ready for that special person in your life on Valentines Day. Mindful Movement with Shift Move, feel good, let go of your worries, stretch it out and relax. In this session we will teach you about the science behind yoga and what effect it's having on your body and mind and teach you mindfulness tools that you can easily use in your day to let go of worries, sleep better at night and feel more confident. Mindfulness Mandala Project 1ST – 12TH FEBRUARY 2024 Join us for Childrens’ Mental Health Week and create a petal for our Mindfulness Mandala. Draw something that makes you happy or use one of the provided templates to colour in. Add to our collaborative project and watch the mandala grow!

Worry Box Project Take part in this interactive and continuous display for children during Children’s Mental Health Week. Write down your worries and feed it to our cardboard worry box: a safe place for children to write down anything and not have it ‘discovered’. The worry box will hold your worries for you.

Lydney, Coleford, Cinderford and Newent Libraries are taking part in this initiative.

Open Arts Evenings Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society.

Throughout history, women have used art to express their experiences, advocate for rights and challenge societal issues. Come and join us in the Library this March for a female-led ‘WHM Open Arts Evening’ where artists will be sharing their creative work through different art mediums. Listen to the voices and stories that champion women, and we hope you are encouraged to think, laugh, emphathise and celebrate. Expect a pick-and-mix event of creative offerings - So sit back, relax, eat cake, drink wine and enjoy.

Build a Bug Hotel An opportunity for young gardeners to design and construct miniature shelters for insects, whilst also learning about the importance of biodiversity in our gardens.

Gardening Library Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of stories, learning about the magic of plants, the wonders of pollination, and the adventures of curious garden explorers. This space nurtures curiosity and a love for reading while imparting valuable gardening knowledge and is a quiet zone of the festival.

Colouring Zone

The Colouring Zone is a haven for budding artists and children can let their creativity flow. Children can express their imagination and turn festival designed sheets into vibrant gardens of their own.

Selfie Area Families can capture joyful moments surrounded by blooming flowers and playful garden-themed props. By sharing these experiences, families not only create lasting memories but also inspire others to explore the wonders of gardening.

Music Played by Plants This innovative zone merges technology with nature, allowing children to witness the harmonious relationship between plants and music. By interacting with plants that create melodies, children learn about plant responsiveness, learning a sense of wonder and appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things.

OTHER REGULAR EVENT HIGHLIGHTS Share a Poem Share a Poem is a relaxing way of making new friends in an informal group. There is poetry inspired conversation about life in general and you don’t need to love poetry to love Share a Poem!

We currently have Share a Poem groups in Cirencester, Tewkesbury, Longlevens, Bishops Cleeve and Quedgeley Libraries. Please check your local library for further details.

Nature Club – Tetbury Library Supported by Feoffees of Tetbury Nature Club is a free hour-long monthly club where children and families can learn about different animals and the natural world, and ways they can help wildlife and the environment. These sessions are suitable for children aged 4+ years.

Library Club A social activity for people who would otherwise struggle to access library services themselves. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help people to choose reading/listening materials or use a library computer. This club is held monthly, everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments are provided.

Transport is also provided if needed but does need to be booked a few days in advance to guarantee you a place on the community minibus. Please contact your local library to find out more details.

Climate Corner – Nailsworth Library Come and chat with local environment expert Richard Erskine about climate change.

Conversations around a range of topics are discussed and resources are shared within the group for further reading and research. The event take place on the first Friday of each month between 10.30am - 12:30pm at Nailsworth Library.

Teen Only Evening – Charlton Kings Library Drop in and enjoy a safe, teen only space with the following activities on offer: board games, book group, crafting table, mindfulness colouring.

Over 60s Group This is an informal social group who meet regularly in the library and take part in a range of activities including poetry readings, local history talks, art activities and more. The group decides on the activities they would like to see at upcoming meetings and the team at the library facilitate them.

Murder Mystery Club – Lydney Library Do you have what it takes to crack the clues and solve the case? Play detective in this gripping murder mystery game and bring the criminal to justice. Work together as a group to solve this case. This event is suitable for ages 14 and above.

Poetry Café This event happens on a monthly basis and everyone is welcome to attend. Guest poets make appearances to perform their work and there are also slots for you to share your own work or read a poem. These groups currently take place at Gloucester Library and Cheltenham Library.

Animation is for everyone, regardless of age or ability. If you’ve ever wanted to get started, but weren’t sure how, this workshop is for you. Bring simple characters to life, create a story and make a short animation in an hour!

An introduction to creating Vtuber puppets Coleford LAB

This workshop is hosted in 2 parts and both dates should be attended.

Create your own 2D animated avatar using Adobe CC’s fresco, photoshop in this lightning fast introduction to character animator. You must be comfortable navigating a computer using both a mouse and a stylus/pen. You don’t need any prior knowledge of digital art, but it would be helpful as these sessions will be fairly fast paced.

First Session 23rd February, 17:30 – 18:30 This will focus on creating our puppet, including: looking at the software that we will use to create your avatar, understanding how to use layers to assist in rigging the puppet later on, and how to group puppet elements for efficient animation.

Second Session 1st March, 17:30 – 18:30 This will focus on rigging the puppet; how to set animation and physics behaviours; setting up a scene; how to lip sync using pre recorded clips, and finally on recording and exporting the scene.
