AALBORG WHITE® cement - a product for the future AALBORG WHITE® cement is a product for the future. Being chemically pure and homogeneous, AALBORG WHITE® cement can be used for a wide variety of purposes ranging from the repair of teeth to the construction of very large structures.

AALBORG WHITE® Research and Development Centre have built up excellent expertise within all aspects of the manufacture, testing and use of white cement.

A centre of excellence AALBORG WHITE® Research and Development Centre has a broad based staff made up of engineers, chemists and geologists. The Centre has stateof-the-art laboratory equipment at its disposal and is situated close to Aalborg Portland’s plant in Denmark. Internationally, the centre collaborates with leading universities, institutes and architectural schools. Projects are implemented in cooperation with customers and the users of products containing AALBORG WHITE® cement.

Innovation Aiming at continuously pushing the limits of what is technically and aesthetically possible AALBORG WHITE® Research and Development Centre works with great determination on utilising the unique properties of AALBORG WHITE® cement in the development of new white cement applications.

The results include: • The Centre has documented that concrete based on AALBORG WHITE® is at least as durable in sea water as high-quality concrete made from grey cement. As such, white concrete can be used in the large bridge-building projects. Research is conducted continuously with a view to developing an even more durable concrete based on AALBORG WHITE® cement.

• By using advanced measuring equipment the Centre has gained new insights into the influence of cement, concrete recipe, additives and aggregates on the colour of concrete.

Thereby, customers can be advised on how to achieve the desired aesthetic expression.

• The development of a special apparatus for performing accelerated testing of concrete ageing. By means of this equipment the Centre works determinedly on developing concrete based on AALBORG WHITE® cement that keeps its appearance despite the influence of weather, airborne dust, etc.

• The development of recipes for self-compacting concrete containing AALBORG WHITE® cement.

The Centre works continuously on further developing the concrete of the future.

• In a special dry-mix mortar laboratory the Centre continuously examines the influence of the various additives on mortar properties.

Laboratories The laboratories of AALBORG WHITE Research and Development Centre perform a wide range of analyses covering: • Manufacture of cement clinkers in miniature cement kiln, and cement grinding in laboratory mills.

• Quality assurance testing of cement.

• Chemical analyses, including trace elements and water-soluble chromate.

• Mineralogical analyses, including Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope and X-ray Diffraction.

• Concrete proportioning and determination of fresh concrete rheology.

Services AALBORG WHITE® Research and Development Centre offers a long list of services.

These benefit our customers by way of AALBORG WHITE® Technical Team, which offers advice and counselling based on the latest results.

The services range from testing and analysis of cement and cement-containing materials to analysis of all conceivable raw materials, fuels and waste products.

The Centre also offers consultancy services within process engineering, testing and use of AALBORG WHITE® cement.

A number of tests and analyses can be performed as accredited testing in accordance with various EN and ASTM methods if so required.

• Compressive and tensile strength of concrete.

• Performance test for most types of concrete attack, including alkali silica reaction, sulphate attack, chloride penetration, freeze-thaw damage, etc. Outdoor exposure facilities for long-term durability testing.

• Colour measuring of concrete.

• Dry-mix mortar analyses.
