ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE FOR EVERY RIDER

LTD

is the full expression of ultimate performance by 3T. Expect no compromise – this is the best you can get. Top pros and super-demanding amateurs will likely prefer components at this level. Most LTD components are built in the lightest available grades of carbon composite materials. In the search for even lighter weight, structures may employ more highly evolved fabrication methods such as variable-thickness walls. All ancillary parts are also refined to the highest degree. For example, bolts are made of titanium rather than stainless steel. For athletes who ride LTD, only the ultimate performance will do.

TEAM is intended for top-level competition, and is widely used by professional and amateur racers. TEAM products equal LTD in function, but have minor concessions to price in materials specification and finish. TEAM components are built either in advanced carbon composite materials, or the highest grades of heat-treated aluminum alloy. This gives them great strength and robustness, so they are especially suitable for the rough-andtumble of season-long competition. Bolts may be stainless-steel or titanium. You’ll find the widest choice of fittings and sizes in the TEAM range.

PRO

offers an ideal balance to riders who insist on top-class performance at the keenest price. This group typically includes many amateurs who purchase their own equipment. PRO components often employ traditional materials such as Al 7075 and Al 6061 alloys to contain fabrication costs. But like all 3T products, they benefit from the 3T Intelligent Production Lifecycle, assuring right-first-time design and quality, at prices that meet the needs of today’s discriminating bike riders. Count on PRO components to perform to the highest levels.

3T INTELLIGENT PRODUCTION LIFECYCLE

CAE design visualization Our engineers create a component on screen using CATIA, the industry gold standard for new product design. Most aerospace and automotive engineers use it for airframes and vehicle structures. CATIA lets us interactively develop components. For example, we gave experts a solid mock-up of the ERGONOVA bar to handle. They told us right away how to improve it – we modified it within days. The output from the CAE stage is a virtual prototype that meets our design goals of function, comfort, aerodynamics, and appearance.

Finite-element analysis Now we pass the prototype’s digital design files into FEA for stress testing. We model the forces acting on the component, examine how it performs under load, and change the design to perform better. For example, we found that by varying the wall thickness of a drop bar, we doubled its strength, but put the weight up by less than 5%. Optimizing the design now pays off later, with right-first-time manufactured prototypes.

Manufacturing optimization Next, we ready the design for production. The strength of a composite component depends on its layup – how the plies of the composite material are set out. To determine the layup, we use a specialized engineering program, FiberSIM. This analyzes the strains in every ply and produces a layup plan with the optimum mix of strength, light weight, and low cost. This plan goes to our factory to guide the layup operators.

Mechanical test Now we test the physical prototype. We put every 3T component through independent tests, and our own. We bolt the component into a test rig, and subject it to a lifetime’s grueling use in a few hours. The tests are different than just applying more force until the part fails. In normal use, bike components undergo continuous, repetitive stresses that peak in a big effort like a sprint or climb. We program the test rig to model the stresses of real-world riding.

Pro rider test The final test is riding the component. Whatever the numbers say, it has to feel right to the rider. That’s why 3T is a keen supporter of world-class cycle sport– because competition drives better component design. Our sponsored athletes expect the best. Their judgment is unsparing, because they push the performance envelope to the limit. We rely on them to tell us how 3T components can be better still. They hold us to our promise, to always perform perfectly.

MTB

MTB is a new range of components for 2010. It’s aimed at pro and amateur offroad riders who demand the ultimate performance – in function, strength, light weight, and ease of use. MTB components intersect with 3T’s road ranges. The proven, lightweight range of ARX stems and DORIC seat posts meet offroad riders’ demands for ultimate strength in extreme conditions. New riser and flat bars, like the road bars, offer a new twist on proven formats. Our MTB components are among the lightest and toughest you can get.

XIDA

LTD

Weight: Rise: Clamp: Eccentricity: Back sweep:

XIDA is the world’s first compact MTB flat bar. Careful materials analysis let us rethink even this simplest of patterns to provide a more spacious cockpit and fine adjustment. The oversize center section is reduced to a minimum, providing 190 mm for attachments even when the full-width (640 mm) bar is cut down to a racing width of 570 mm. XIDA has a 3.5-degree back sweep, while the bar’s outer sections are offset by 3 mm on the oversize center section. This eccentricity permits a slight up-sweep if desired. XIDA LTD is engineered in high-modulus carbon-fiber for extreme lightness, yet it’s as stiff and strong as any conventional oversize flat bar. All-new compact flat-bar design | High-modulus carbon-fiber | Ultra-light

ERYX

LTD

Weight: Rise: Clamp: Up sweep: Back sweep:

ERYX is the world’s first compact MTB riser bar, and among the world’s lightest. In-depth material analysis allowed us to reduce the width of the oversize center section to a minimum. Even when this full-width (640 mm) bar is cut down to a racing width of 570 mm, a full 190 mm is available for attachments. This provides space for controls such the suspension lockout lever and new-generation lighting systems, and solves the problem of cockpit overcrowding. ERYX LTD is engineered in high-modulus carbon-fiber for extreme lightness, yet it’s as strong and stiff as any conventional oversize riser bar.

ARX

LTD

Weight: Clamp dia: Stack: Length: Material: Angle: Bolts:

ARX, Latin for stronghold and bridge, ARX is our design for the perfect connection between fork and handlebar. 3T precision engineering meant that this design, originally introduced in our Road range, easily exceeded all MTB tests. We paid close attention to clamp design, the usual cause of failure in composite steerers and bars. We made sure of the ARX clamp interface by performing our own tests that go way beyond CEN standards, even testing the stem’s compatibility with other brands of handlebars. It passed with flying colors. ARX LTD is the carbon-fiber version, supplied with Ti bolts. Super-light and super-stiff, it is a highly evolved, modern, all-composite design weighing less than 120 g. Optimized clamp design | State-of-the-art materials engineering | Super-light and super-stiff

DORIC

LTD

Weight: External dia.: Length: Material: Bolts:

DORIC, is a minimalist zero-setback seatpost focused on essentials: rider comfort, security, and ease of use. Originally introduced in our Road range and campaigned by several pro teams, DORIC LTD easily passed all tests for MTB use. The high-grade carbon-fiber shaft is very light and compliant, soaking up road shocks. The traditional two-bolt clamp gives accurate control over saddle angle so the rider is positioned correctly on the bike – a key factor for long-term comfort. Like the Ancient Greek architectural column it gets its name from, DORIC is built to provide elegant, robust support that stands the test of time.
