With globalization on the one hand and the growing importance of cities on the other, there is increasing pressure to rethink the role of the nation state in global problem solving. Cities are becoming networked and collaborative in their approach to solving issues such as climate change. At the same time, cities are important nodes for localizing global solutions. Are cities becoming a critical venue for solving global problems? What roles will cities play in the future, and how can we enable the residents of urban centers to participate more effectively in global issues?
