Al hablar de wearables, inmediatamente pensamos en relojes inteligentes desarrollados especialmente para deportistas, sin embargo, este mercado también tiene otros dispositivos “usables” que han cambiado paulatinamente el concepto y la percepción que el público tiene sobre ellos.

When speaking of wearables, we immediately think of smart watches specially developed for sportsmen, however, this market also has other "wearable" devices which have gradually changed the concept and perception that the public has on them.

L

a tecnología wearable ha ganado cada vez más terreno. Los dispositivos más comúnes son aquellos que se utilizan para llevar un control de la actividad física, sin embargo, poco a poco se han presentado equipos que abarcan diferentes áreas.

Tal es el caso del reloj de Apple, que busca controlar el nivel de azúcar en la sangre. Se espera que el dispositivo haga un seguimiento biológico mucho más profundo, registraría las variaciones del nivel de glucosa y de oxígeno en la sangre, además de los latidos del corazón y el pulso, ideal para pacientes con diabetes.

Por otro lado, está el nuevo reloj de Fitbit, Fitbit Blaze, un dispositivo más deportivo que inteligente pensado en usuarios deportistas, quienes no requieren de estar tan conectados a su smartphone. Una vez conectado por Bluetooth al teléfono, el Blaze pone énfasis en las funciones de monitoreo y rendimiento deportivo y no en la sincronización con el teléfono inteligente.

The most common devices are those that are used to keep track of physical activity, however, gradually there have been devices covering different areas.

Such is the case of the Apple Watch, which seeks to control the level of blood sugar. It is estimated that the device makes a much deeper biomonitoring; it would register changes in the level of glucose and oxygen in the blood, in addition to the heartbeats and pulse, ideal for patients with diabetes.

On the other hand, there is the new Fitbit watch, the Fitbit Blaze, a device more for sports than smart, thought for sportsmen users who don’t require to be so connected to their smartphone. Once connected to the phone through Bluetooth, the Blaze emphasizes on the monitoring and athletic performance functions and not on the synchronization with the smartphone.

Los wearables son capaces de indicar las horas de ejercicios realizadas o las calorías, ahora los workables realizarán lo mismo pero relacionado con los oficios que se realizan en determinado lugar. El sitio de trabajo, en muchos empleos, se ha convertido en cualquier sitio, sin horarios, objetivos, altamente orientados a resultados. Actualmete, ya no se juzga a las personas por la cantidad de horas que laboran, sino por la cantidad de objetivos que cumplen. Es más justo, pero más difícil de cuantificar. Aquí es donde entran los wearables para productividad.

Es difícil medir el rendimiento de un trabajador basado solo en el resultado final. Por ello sería muy útil contar con información precisa sobre su navegador, y un track de lo que hace el usuario en su PC y móvil, tiempo de inactividad, entre otras cosas. Se podría saber en qué tareas son más eficientes y en cuales se pierde algo de tiempo.

En este sentido, no debe percibirse como un dispositivo para mantener controlado al empleado, sino como dato genérico para detectar fallas y corregir.

Son muchos los aspectos que permitirían describir con exactitud los wearables del trabajo como el comportamiento de los clientes, el tiempo de respuesta y las horas más productivas. Sin embargo, los workables apenas dan sus primeros pasos, por los momentos no hay ninguno registrado, pero si aplicaciones basadas en la productividad de los trabajadores y compañías.

ntel held last August in San Francisco its Developer Forum IDF (Intel Developer Forum), one of the unmissable events of the technology community and like every year, it came loaded with novelties to transform daily life like never before.

ntel celebró el pasado mes de agosto en San Francisco su foro de desarrolladores IDF (Intel Developer Forum), una de las citas ineludibles de la comunidad tecnológica y como cada año, llegó cargado de novedades para transformar la vida diaria como nunca antes.

Al evento asistieron desarrolladores, makers, inventores, tecnólogos y ejecutivos de la industria que pudieron ver de primera mano en qué trabaja actualmente Intel de cara al futuro. La realidad virtual, la inteligencia artificial y la tecnología 5G fueron algunos de los temas centrales del evento, además de la exposición para los desarrolladores en nuevos niveles de colaboración

cruzada en la industria.

Brian Krzanich, CEO de Intel, fue el encargado de la conferencia inaugural del IDF 2016. “La realidad fusionada será uno de los pilares que redefinirán cómo trabajamos, cómo nos entretenemos y cómo nos comunicamos”, dijo.

Intel presentó la nueva generación de la familia de procesadores Intel Xeon Phi (código nombrado Knights Mill), centrado en el aprendizaje automático de alto rendimiento e inteligencia artificial. El Knights Mill estará disponible en 2017, está optimizado para implementaciones analíticas en escala el cual incluirá mejoras importantes para el entrenamiento de aprendizaje profundo.

Brian Krzanich, Intel CEO, was in charge of the inaugural conference of the IDF 2016. "Merged reality will be one of those fundamental shifts that is going to redefine how we work, how we are entertain and how we communicate", he said.

Intel introduced the new generation of the family Intel Xeon Phi processors (code named Knights Mill), focusing on high-performance machine learning and artificial intelligence. The Knights Mill will be available in 2017, it is optimized for analytical scale deployments which will include significant improvements for deep learning training.

It also showed the Alloy Project, which is an open platform prepared to cover virtual reality devices, integrated to the Real Sense technology with which developers could create their own products under Alloy. It is expected to be ready in 2017.

Joule was another of the major announcements of the IDF 2016. The development package consists of a motherboard with Intel Joule Real Sense technology, intended as an incentive for entrepreneurs who want to enter the field of IoT.

Joule fue otro de los anuncios estrella del IDF 2016. El paquete de desarrollo compuesto por una placa base con tecnología Intel Joule Real Sense, pretende ser un estímulo para emprendedores que quieran entrar en el terreno del IoT.

Por otra parte, el IDF 2016 también sirvió para dar a conocer la séptima generación de procesadores Core, Kaby Lake en clave, su objetivo será mejorar las capacidades de rendimiento para los nuevos juegos y dispositivos que están por llegar.

Igualmente anunciaron que sus primeros transceptores ópticos Intel Silicon Photonics 100G ya están disponibles comercialmente.

Este importante avance permite que los principales proveedores de servicios de nube, como Microsoft Azure, usen el poder de la luz para mover grandes cantidades de información en la velocidad de 100 gigabits por segundo en distancias de hasta varios kilómetros sobre cables de fibra óptica usando señales ópticas.

a fiebre mundial de Pokémon GO llegó a América Latina, cumpliendo así la meta de Nintendo de colocarlo a disposición de los visitantes que visitaban al continente por las Olimpiadas. En muchos países ya se observan jugadores en las calles, se trata realmente de un fenómeno.

Nintendo no inventó la Realidad Aumentada, pero con seguridad fue la primera empresa en saber usarla.

Unfortunately, everything has another side of the coin. There have been some security incidents with game users worldwide, and it turns out that its success also draws the attention of criminals. Therefore, it is important to be aware; here we provide you some basic safety recommendations, either in the virtual or physical world.

Las pruebas se han desarrollando en el Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE), donde se proyectaron imágenes en 3D de los componentes. El resultado es una realidad virtual en el que los ingenieros de Audi pueden sumergirse con gafas 3D. A través de Myo, un brazalete desarrollado en la industria de los videojuegos que funciona a través del control de gestos, los operarios de la línea de montaje podrán trabajar con la tecnología 3D en la línea de montaje virtual.

The Myo measures the forearm muscle currents and can deduce how the user is moving the arm and fingers. Myo bracelet sends the motion data via Bluetooth to a computer. The virtual reality camera used is a Kinect, the control hardware in a videogame console. To ensure that the Myo bracelet doesn’t interpret every possible movement as a control gesture, the user activates the system by touching the thumb and middle finger.

Virtual reality is not new for Audi, a few months ago they presented the virtual reality helmet to configure the vehicle.

Katharina Kunz, Audi development engineer for virtual validation said that these technologies "are ideal for us because they are relatively inexpensive and are being developed rapidly”.

o the date, the main use of the Internet of Things publicized is to reduce maintenance costs or improve productivity, but little has been said about its ability to provide opportunities to generate new revenue.

That is a point on which less information is available, as it is recent.

asta hoy, el principal uso que se difunde del Internet de las Cosas es para reducir los costos de mantenimiento o mejorar la productividad, pero poco se ha hablado de su capacidad de brindar oportunidades para generar nuevos ingresos.

Eso es un punto sobre el que se dispone menos información, ya que es reciente. Y sólo unas pocas empresas han aprovechado las oportunidades de los nuevos canales de ingresos ofrecidos por el IoT. Aquí algunos aspectos para que su empresa encuentre estos nuevos beneficios.

En primer lugar, para sacar el máximo provecho de las iniciativas del Internet de las Cosas, su empresa necesita una estructura ágil. Ese puede ser un paso largo y no tan sencillo, pero imprescindible para buscar nuevas oportunidades (grandes empressa como Google ya utilizan este enfoque de empresa ágil). La razón: ser ágil da la oportunidad de probar nuevas ideas que permitirán a su negocio seguir el ritmo de los disruptores de la industria, sin poner en peligro sus actividades cotidianas. Para crear nuevos canales de ingresos con el IoT hay que probar, estar abiertos.

Puede parecer sencillo, pero estamos hablando de cambiar la forma en que tradicionalmente se hacen negocios.

First, to make the most of the initiatives of the Internet of Things, your company needs an agile structure. That may be a long and not very simple step but essential to pursue new opportunities (large companies like Google already use this approach of agile enterprise). The reason: being agile gives the opportunity to try new ideas that will allow your business to keep the pace with the industry disruptors, without jeopardizing its daily activities. To create new revenue streams with the IoT we must try, being open. It may seem simple, but we are talking about changing the way business is done traditionally.

Hay muy pocas empresas que han empezado a utilizar el IoT para generar ingresos adicionales. Una de ellas es el más grande fabricante de impresoras, que ha puesto sensores en los cartuchos de tinta, de manera que cuando la impresora se queda sin tinta, los cartuchos nuevos se ordenan automáticamente (si se ha solicitado que así sea, por supuesto). Esto es sólo un ejemplo de cómo un producto se transforma en un modelo de servicio. Así, los ingresos por cartuchos serán para esta compañía y no para sus competidores. Creo que este modelo es probable que se propague a muchos productos de consumo como: shampoo, leche, jabón, por ejemplo,... todo podría ser entregado a su puerta tan pronto como el usuario lo necesita. Y usted no tendría que hacer nada ni preocuparse por quedarse sin tinta justo cuando tiene este importante documento que necesita imprimir la mañana siguiente y ya son las 11 pm.

En otro ejemplo: expertos de datos de Hitachi han creado recientemente la Ciudad del Intercambio de Datos en Copenhague. Como una ciudad inteligente, Copenhague está equipada con una gran cantidad de sensores que generan grandes volúmenes de datos los cuales se pueden vender. Em nota divulgada após reunião com o presidente da Oi, Marco Schroeder, o Ministério de Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovações e Comunicações torce pela “manutenção de pelo menos três grandes grupos de prestadores de serviços” no país. Segundo o MCTIC, o conjunto de mudanças nos procedimentos da Anatel, “deverá dar tranquilidade ao usuário e ao investidor”.

COSTA RICA, NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR MONITORING ADVERTISING The firm Kantar Ibope Media announced the introduction of new technologies to streamline and increase the credibility of the monitoring of advertising in traditional media in Costa Rica.

This is about the online service Monitor Flex and also an online tool called Easyhecking Online, which allow monitoring 10 broadcast TV channels, 39 cable TV channels and 39 radio stations daily. Costa Rica is the first country in Latin America to implement Monitor Flex and the sixth to count Easyhecking Online.

HPJet Advantage Connect permite la impresión desde dispositivos móviles a impresoras en la red de la empresa con una experiencia simple e intuitiva tipo PC, sin pasos extra como abrir la aplicación de impresión o enviar un e-mail a la cola de impresión.

Además, la implementación es más fácil y menos costosa para la TI ya que la renderización del trabajo se realiza en el dispositivo móvil, lo que

elimina la necesidad de un servidor dedicado y la TI puede aprovechar las mismas herramientas usadas para configurar y administrar una infraestructura de impresión basada en PC. Actualmente, HP Jet Advantage Connect es compatible con Android y ofrecerá compatibilidad con dispositivos con iOS. HP JetAdvantage Connect enables printing from mobile devices to printers on the corporate network with a simple, intuitive PC-like experience, without extra steps like opening the print app or sending an email to the print queue.

It is also easier and less expensive for IT to deploy as print job rendering takes place on the mobile device, which eliminates the need for a dedicated server and IT can leverage the same tools used to configure and manage PC-based print infrastructure.

Currently HP Jet Advantage Connect is compatible with Android and will offer compatibility with iOS devices.

It is expected that in the future it will have compatibility with other mobile platforms.
