A MESSAGE FROM PAUL FETSCHER

It’s that time of the year. The crocus stick up their heads to remind us that all those Winter runs were worthwhile.

After the New York Marathon, the time changes. It becomes dark for those morning runs. Coupled with the morning chill, it’s that much harder to get out the front door.

It’s a chore to maintain high mileage weeks to attempt to prepare for the Boston Marathon. That race has gone off a hot as 96 degrees. It’s very difficult to take those dark morning runs, run thru snow, sleet and chill in order to be ready for that springtime marathon.

We are over that hump. It is lighter in the mornings. Occasional 50 or 60 degree days, bring the promise of even warmer weather, comfortable runs and less bulky three levels of clothing.

Spring is here! And with it come an increased number of races. GLIRC has a series of promising events. The rites of Spring start with Aspire 10K on April 29 th . We have a new course this year with a little bit more of a challenge. Start and finish will be at the usual Howard B. Mattlin Middle School, 100 Washington Ave, Plainview, NY.

June 8 th will feature the ever popular David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run.

With the popularity of our brewery runs, we will be adding an event with the cooperation of Sand City Brewery of Lindenhurst. There will be our usual popular runs. Prepare for our 25K and 50K Greenbelt Trail Runs, our ever popular Womens Run on July 8 th and of course the largest run of the year, the Marcum Workplace challenge. So, get by your favorite running store, make sure you have the right equipment, and come out and celebrate Spring Fever. Get ready and plan to get to the GLIRC races this Spring.
