Headmaster’s Bursaries A recent recipient of a Headmaster’s Bursary, George Buckney (m, 2013), said:
“Coming to Sherborne for the Sixth Form changed my life. I was presented with a wonderful opportunity and tried my very best to grab it with both hands.” Each Award requires approximately £65,000 for a boy to board, with some additional expenses covered, for the full two years of the Sixth Form.
Enhancing Co-curricular Skills TRAVEL AND TOUR BURSARIES
This fund helps boys on bursarial support, or those with limited means to go on tours that are useful for their development at School and beyond. These boys gain immeasurably from their experiences. Over 60 boys have already been supported. £7,500 per annum
SPORTS COACHING FUND
This Fund allows recruitment of outside professional coaches necessary to run all of our sport in a rigorous manner for all participants at all levels. For example, Edward Pickard (a, 2014) received Judo coaching for a number of years and won a gold medal at the HMC National Championships. Also, a member of the 1st XV received coaching from James Honeyben as a scrum half, enabling the boy to play for Bath Rugby and for England.
PETER CURRIE FUND
To pay tribute to the endeavours and dedication of Peter Currie, who spent 35 years on the staff at Sherborne (1947-1982), a Fund has been created to enable boys from the Digby and other Houses, who could not otherwise afford to, to undertake trips in areas that Peter himself loved such as golf, languages, hockey and music. £20,000

15 Years of Philanthropy The impact of the Foundation’s 15 years is clear to see at Sherborne, and it is no more evident than in the Annual Fund which has been the backbone of your support over the years. The projects supported each year enrich the academic life, augment the co-curricular activities on offer and also broaden the minds of the boys to consider the world beyond their Sherborne education.

Your Support Counts If just 30 OS, parents or friends of Sherborne were to give £20 per month during the telephone campaign (with Gift Aid) we could completely fund the Inspirational Speaker Programme over one year.

A gift of £400 (or £33 per month) would enable one boy already on bursarial support to benefit from this year’s musical tour such as the one to Rome, pictured above. Alternatively, a single Leadership gift of £1,000 would provide a significant amount towards the cost of a bursary for one deserving boy. Remember, if you make your gift tax-effectively it can be worth even more to us and, if you are a higher rate tax payer, cost you less. Please participate in the Annual Fund as part of the Foundation’s special 15th Anniversary year.
ACADEMIC FESTIVALS
James Sewry (d, 2014) said of the Sherborne Sessions, the literary festival in 2012:
“To have such distinguished poets read their own work is a rare occurrence, and it was refreshing to enjoy the poetry away from the classroom.”
The aim is to create small, two-day academic festivals (English in 2014 and Science in 2015), attracting big name speakers and contributing to both the academic enrichment and the overall profile of the School. £35,000
INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER PROGRAMME
The programme has recently included Satish Kumar (pictured) speaking on his remarkable ‘peace tea’ walk, as well as an OS who was the first man to circumnavigate the globe without the use of motors or sails, and also other figures from the worlds of charities, politics and business.
The speakers each cover a subject that enhances the boys’ knowledge beyond the classroom and aims to broaden their world view.

FOUNDATION FELLOWS
For the academic year, 2013-14, the Foundation Fellows fund allowed two high flying Princeton graduates, Amelia Bensch-Schaus and Reid Fritz, to enhance the education of the boys and help at the School for a year.
Two further Fellows have already been recruited for the next academic year and, as part of the Annual Fund, the Foundation is seeking to raise the £50,000 needed to support this rolling programme.
