Our Heritage Chester Jefferies was founded in 1936 making the highest quality Peccary leather and lambskin gloves. The company was founded by Mr. Chester Jefferies and Mr. Gilbert Pearce, Today the company is run by the Third and Fourth generations of the Pearce family and they still enjoy a worldwide reputation for excellence in traditional glove making. Originally based in Slough, The business was moved to the town of Gillingham in Dorset, the heart of the traditional glove-making region of England’s West Country. The Chester Jefferies business has been built on the companies’ skills and experience in the selection of quality materials and the traditional methods of cutting and sewing. In the design and making of all the gloves, the present family management remains firmly committed to the two essential features of top quality and outstanding value. The companies’ high quality standards have been maintained by blending the traditional making skills along side a thorough control procedure.

Unlike the majority of the gloves that are made today, Chester Jefferies gloves are made from leather which has been individually selected and prepared before being cut the traditional way, by hand. It is this careful preparation together with the traditional making methods used by the companies’ craftsmen which ensure the perfect fit & excellent wearing characteristics of a pair of these fine English made gloves.
The ‘Shell’ Stock Service Our ‘Shell’ stock service works by giving you freedom of choice and customization. The gloves are kept as a ‘shell’ meaning they are unlined and unfinished. This allows us to put your choice of lining inside, sew in private labels and add contrasting colours at the wrist. ALLOW 2 WEEKS FOR MACHINE SEWN FINISHES ALLOW 4 WEEKS FOR HANDSEWN FINISHES
Our leathers CAPESKIN Commonly known as Nappa, this leather is lightweight, soft and supple. From a type of Hairsheep in Africa, sourced from Italy and the United Kingdom. DEERSKIN A robust yet supple leather with a characteristic grain on the leathers surface. Sourced from North America. LAMBSKIN A thick and warm leather with natural wool inside. Sourced from Portuguese domestic Lamb.
HANDSEWN COLLECTION
It takes an experienced maker around 2 ½ hours to sew just one pair of Handsewn gloves, each pair of gloves has approximately 2000 stitches. All our Handsewn gloves are made using ‘Quirks’. These are small diamond pieces of leather sewn at the base of the finger which improve comfort and freedom of movement for the fingers. This is the sign of a truly well made glove and is rarely seen by other manufacturers

The Production Path

1 Leather skins are individually sorted
for quality and weight
2 The skins are then stretched by hand
until firm
3 Each style and size has its only pattern;
these are outlined onto the leather using the cutters nail
4 The pattern is then cut into a basic shape
using large scissors or shears
5 The glove ‘Trank’ will then be webbed to
create the glove shape
6 The gloves are then ready for making;
here they are being stitched by machine using a Prixseam stitch

7 7 Here we see the last few stitches going
into a pair of Handsewn gloves.
8 The final stage is Ironing; this removes
creases from the leather and makes the gloves presentable and ready for sale.
