A Happy New year to one and all. I hope you and your families had a relaxing and enjoyable festive season.
We hosted nearly seven hundred for Christmas lunch and over five hundred for New Year’s dinner. Thank you to the staff and management for ensuring that all this happened with great aplomb and enormous thanks to all of you for attending those functions.
We have a busy year ahead and I know the Club’s Events’ Team send out regular reminders of the incredible functions that are laid on. Enjoy those functions to the full!
The Club is organising a Members’ Tent at the Ngong Racecourse for the upcoming Sirai Guineas taking place on Sunday 21st January. Please get into your Sunday best, sign up and go along for some fun. The more the merrier!
I hope by now you have all met the new Club Secretary Michael Flint. I was unable to make the soiree held in December to introduce him formally to Club Members. I think it is fair to say that Michael has hit the ground running, he is full of vim and I am greatly enjoying watching him at the helm. A very warm welcome again to Michael and Lilly.
We have a lot of improvement/development plans in the pipeline for the Club, as I said at the AGM, and we will be telling you about these during the course of the year. A lot of careful thought and planning has gone into this by management and the Projects sub-committee.
Some serious thought is also being given to the next Chairman’s Outreach. Watch this space…
I would like to welcome Lisa Karanja as an Officer of the Club alongside myself and John Ngumi. Lisa is an incisive thinker and I know we will enjoy working alongside her.
Many thanks to Michael Turner who stepped down as an Officer but who remains as a Committee member. Michael’s ability to get to the heart of an issue with gin clarity is an enormous help to us on the Main Committee and I welcome his continued presence.
At the beginning of another Club annual cycle, I would like to remind you of some of the cardinal rules to be followed by us all. Enjoy yourselves to the fullest extent, it is your Club after all. Please, please don’t ever be rude to the Staff – it will not be tolerated. Please do not tip the staff. If you see another Member not abiding by the by-laws, do not under any circumstances intervene yourself but please report the conduct or the incident to the management or the staff. They will deal with it.

Now, friends, sit back and enjoy reading another edition of our stunning Club magazine. In this edition we have a comprehensive round-up of the events and celebrations leading up to, and during, the festive season, and the low down on some of the challenges that Members have triumphed over recently, and honours that have been bestowed.
I hope you all derive enormous pleasure from your Membership of the Club in 2023.
I think we are in great shape as we enter our 110th year.
My warmest wishes to you and your families

Philip Coulson, Chairman, Muthaiga Country Club
