From the Headmaster I am sure you have all been looking forward to this tour for a long time.

It represents a great opportunity to travel to a fascinating and diverse country and to a place where the people absolutely adore Cricket and Hockey. You have before you the opportunity to experience an extraordinary range of culture, and – of course – to represent Sherborne on the sports field. I am certain that each member of the touring party will throw themselves into every element of the trip and will return having had a fabulous, rewarding and memorable experience.

India is, of course, the country in which the recently-retired Alistair Cook began his England career and I can think of no better role model for you, as young sportsmen, to emulate, not just in your play, but also in your conduct on and off the pitch. Alongside the twelve fixtures you will enjoy some once-in-a-lifetime cultural opportunities, not least your visit to the Taj Mahal. Having seen your itinerary, I have to confess to feeling more than a little jealous!

To our hosts, I would simply express my heartfelt gratitude for your generosity in looking after Sherborne’s boys and staff. I am sure that they will have an unforgettable trip and I hope that you also will enjoy your meetings with them, discovering in the process why we are so proud of our wonderful School and its pupils.

Matthew Pardoe Master in Charge of Cricket The opportunity to play the sport you love in a different country is one to seize and relish. Having been on my first tour to India at a similar age, I am extremely excited for all of you. The opportunities, challenges and experiences that lie ahead will be unforgettable.

India is a fantastic country with some amazing people. You will have your eyes opened to a completely different world than our own, enjoying some incredible culture and experiences, whilst also being challenged in a new way on the cricket pitch.

Cricket is often referred to as a religion in India as the Indians

passion for the sport is unparalleled. You will witness matches being played wherever there is space and time, queues of people waiting to bowl at a net session and lots of talented opposition whom may be unique with their style of play and technique. Enjoy their passion for cricket and soak it up!

My challenge to you all is to leave India having immersed yourself in the people, the culture and the game of cricket. If you can do that, you will have learnt things that can only improve you as a cricketer and as a person.

Alex Hayes Master in Charge of Hockey Before joining Sherborne this September, I was absolutely delighted to hear the School had a joint tour to India planned. Having recently visited Holland, Belgium, and Scotland on international hockey tours, I’m well aware of the huge benefits that come from playing hockey overseas. As well as the exposure to new tactics and styles of play, the squad will form tighter bonds both on and off the pitch to benefit their domestic campaigns upon their return.

As a venue for a hockey tour, India must be one of the very best.

Noted for their technical skill and pace on the ball, India remains the most successful hockey nation in Olympic history, winning eight golds, one silver, and two bronze, including six straight titles leading up to 1956. This November sees India host the Mens Hockey World Cup, and with a new raft of talent including Akashdeep Singh and Mandeep Singh, hopes are high for a return to the top of the world game.
