I really appreciated the Harry Potter World excursion. I had read all the books, seen all the movies and when I get home I want to see them all over again. Conrad 14 Belgium

Of course, there are always opportunities to perform and the regular talent and fashion shows, and assemblies provide a stage. It is humbling to see such quality performed by students of all ages, including some amazing performances on musical instruments such as piano, violin and guitar; near professional singing, including a most moving rendition of Hallelujah as everybody swayed with their phone torches and the essential superbly performed Let It Go from Frozen; dancing; beatboxing; resolving a Rubik’s cube in under 30 seconds and a hilarious comedian who had everyone rolling around in helpless giggles – unforgettable indeed. Particularly wonderful to see was the involvement of several students of all ages and across the boarding houses as backing dancers, singers and generally supporting several acts. The traditional house staff performances went down to great applause with Westcott staff being declared the best this summer for their creative and artistic representation of the Olympics. Thank you Sherborne! Thank you teachers! Thank you friends! A huge thank you goes to all the staff, teachers and everyone who worked on Summer 2016. But Sherborne Summer is about the students who join us and so they receive the biggest thanks for being so good, so polite, so friendly and for making our summer so wonderful and memorable for us.

Unforgettably Unforgettable

….was Kai from China’s verdict on 2016. Sherborne Summer has an experienced and enthusiastic team of staff and teachers who work hard to create and maintain a vibrant, safe and friendly atmosphere, enabling students to have a memorable and enjoyable experience. We make a big effort to include all individuals, motivating them to get involved in all the various activities, sports and events on offer, to speak in English as much as they can, and to show kindness and support to their peers.

Lessons are funny and interesting, they don't seem like lessons but like good times with good people. Maria 14 Ukraine

My favourite lessons were: drama, because we play games, learn how to act, and we interact and laugh; and art because we can let our imaginations fly. Maria Luisa 14 Spain

There were certainly plenty of experiences to remember. Sherborne Olympics coincided with the opening and closing weekends of the Rio Olympics, enabling everyone to compete for themselves, their teams and their countries. Numerous students took home medals and cups for their various events, which included typical contests such as the 25m sprint and other athletics, relay races, swimming, squash, badminton, table tennis and tennis; our regular off-site sports, including fishing, kayaking, sailing, horse-riding, rockclimbing, archery, dodgeball and zorbing; and a few local variations for added spice, such as a standing long jump, penalty shoot-out and welly throwing. Three Knockout challenge competitions saw students cooperating in house teams to outperform rival houses in a series of enjoyable (and exhausting) games, often involving lots of water. A great day was had by all, as students enthusiastically held dripping buckets of cold water over themselves, threw objects at targets and hurled themselves down the slip and slide. Painted faces, banners and mascots along with house chants and songs all added hugely to the competitive spirit and there were always loud cheers for the winning teams – the Green House were July Champions but in August the teachers’ team, for the first time since entering the contest, took the coveted first place. Not for long, though, as Westcott House gained top spot in the end of summer event. Of course, the biggest cheers were for everyone for taking part so enthusiastically and keenly. There was sporting success, too, for those in King’s House (7-12 year olds), however, as they beat the seniors and house staff to win the swimming gala – a terrific feat as they were given no special consideration for their age and simply outswam everyone else. Of course, King’s did have a secret weapon – a couple of real young stars who were obviously not first-time swimmers.

It’s the best school ever - 5 star, I would like to live here – thank you to everyone that helped me and had a good time with me. Hassan 14 Qatar

It was great here! I think the best thing was the horse riding lessons. I loved it so much. Now I can control the horse all by myself and I can also canter too! I rode the white horse called Mr Bumble, he was very old and lazy but it was still fun. Anju 12 Japan

At first when I came to Sherborne, I was a little bit scared and uncomfortable because I've never been far away from home just me alone. But then I became more confident in myself and started making new friends from different countries all around the world and everyone has been extremely kind and friendly to me and to everyone. Bautista 15 Paraguay I've tried badminton, swimming, sea kayaking, squash and sailing. Asal 13 Uzbekistan

At Sherborne International, there are a lot of fun sports like volleyball, badminton, squash, swimming … Oh, and there are also sports like fishing and kayaking! And if you don't like sports you can do some interesting activities like painting. Luvi 12 Italy

Sherborne Summer is an academic course and it is rewarding to see the level of praise from students about their “interesting and well taught” lessons, with lots of variety from all the different subjects, even though they are really practising and improving their English all the time. They say their teachers are friendly, kind and explain things well. In Sherborne, they learn a lot and have a lot of fun at the same time.

It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces return for another summer in Sherborne. And to see so many interacting, communicating and making often long lasting friendships with students of several nationalities and different ages. At the garden parties to help new arrivals meet students already here, the most popular activity was the Instagram booth, kitted out with funny moustaches, weird hats, brightly coloured wigs and oversized glasses. Many selfies were taken and #SISUMMER was trending on social media. Students also played giant jenga, garden connect four, croquet and enjoyed snacks and drinks under the trees on a beautiful sunny evening. And on the inflatables evenings it’s always fun to watch the students challenging each other to see who can reach the end of the giant inflatable assault course first. My third year and every year it just keeps getting better!! Emily 15 Germany The staff are wonderful people, always there for you. Rosalie 15 Congo

I was really stressed when I caught my first fish - I was afraid to take it out, to touch the fishing rod, to even touch the fish. But then thanks to Dr Rawlinson, I understood that it's a very cool adventure and it made me smile. Then we let the fish go of course. Sofia 14 Russia
