Pedro 15 Portugal I loved being here and I want to return.

Norma 16 Paraguay One of the things that I never imagined was going to happen, was teaching English people how we usually dance in South America. It was an exciting experience as a ballerina. We are all different but I learned that we can achieve a new thing going to another place and meeting new people.

Polina 16 Russia Each week, day and hour of my stay here is (I just can’t say “was”) a firework of emotions and unforgettable moments which I strongly believe will live in my memory and heart for the rest of my life.

Sofia 14 Spain My first week was very special when we were just getting to know each other and in the second week we were a big family.

Catarina 16 Switzerland I think that sometimes we can feel scared of people because we can’t understand them but I think that when you spend time with them and do activities together it can become very funny and language isn’t a problem.

Midori Japan 15 The food was very delicious. I looked forward to eating meals every day. I liked the ice creams and the cupcakes best of all!

Arseniy 16 Russia This place has its own certain atmosphere, which makes people such as students, teachers and the other members of staff come back almost every year.

Ernest 14 Hong Kong An hour later, my fishing line went taut. I moved my rod carefully and the fish came closer and closer. Finally, I caught the fish, it was about 10kg. It was the biggest fish of the day!

Maria Russia 14 Firstly, we dressed up in the colours of our teams and painted our faces. The house staff taught us different house songs- it was like team building and when we were coming to the school we were singing. In my opinion we were extremely loud and impressive. I felt all the school united – it was amazing

Paula 14 Brazil Last Saturday was quite a rainy night but the Westcott girls didn’t care. We were all dressed up running around the house asking if our outfits looked good. As we arrived at the hall, we saw everyone dancing and excited. The music was good and everyone looked happy.

Usually many guys just sit and watch at discos, but tonight the only things on the chairs were coats.

Doria 15 China I went horse riding with my friends. My horse was so cute and handsome. The English countryside is very beautiful; it was an amazing day. The most special activity was kayaking… we took our canoes and put them in the sea.

Edoardo 13 Italy We went far from the beach and the view was amazing, I really can’t find enough words to describe it. It was certainly the best experience of my life.

Nick 13 Germany We started the rugby training with doing passes and how to throw the ball correctly. After that, we did the funniest part of the training, it was the tackling.

Everybody had great fun and laughed nearly all the time. When we finally began to play it was a great mess but it began to get more and more controlled.

“It’s very intensive,” observed one individual, “one activity after another! But that’s good,” she continued, “because I like to be busy.” And what a busy, packed summer it was. The students made the most of the huge range of activities on offer as well as the classes. And while thirty 45-minute lessons per week is intensive enough (there’s even an hour’s homework four evenings a week), the emphasis in and out of class is definitely on having an action-packed, memorable, FUN time.

The “ten ways” to do something series – or more accurately, the ten ways not to do things – started by Mr Bennett a couple of years ago, continued with a proliferation of films this August, featuring such delights as a whole class disappearing and a very strangely made-up teacher with an apple in his mouth!

The most popular excursions this year were to the Harry Potter Studios and Splashdown, with Bristol Science Museum, Bath, Longleat and Windsor Castle not far behind. As always, for those who went, London was a top choice. This is an optional extra trip by train for 14-17 year olds and features the London Eye, Westminster and shopping in Oxford Street. No prizes for guessing the most treasured part of that day!

Top prize goes to the teams of house tutors who performed in the annual August talent show. This year they excelled themselves. King’s tutors enlisted the support of their pastoral assistants as well and gave us a condensed Lion King in a spectacular show – they came through as deserving winners. But the Green tutors gave us a fine performance with a beautifully choreographed umbrella sequence that kept appearing at unexpected times during the rest of the courses. And not forgetting the spectacular dancing full colour skeletons, which closed up the Westcott/Mowat sequence.

Giulio 13 Italy I enjoyed Biology because I had never extracted DNA or seen all the parts of a flower.

Nataliya 16 Russia ICT is really interesting and enjoyable and physics rocks!

Borislav Moldova 15 The teachers in the school were excellent, because they taught us many useful things and they helped us to improve our English and our skills.

Daniel 11 Ukraine I like adventures.

Mathilde French Italian 14 I couldn’t believe I could touch the things that Harry Potter touched. I think it’s amazing. If this isn’t special, what is?

Kate 14 Russia I think that Sherborne International is the place where all nationalities are friends.

Shojin 13 Japan I walked a few minutes from school to Sherborne Abbey, it was an awe-inspiring sight … big and beautiful and when I heard the music of the Abbey I thought, this place is a sanctuary. After that I went to Old Sherborne Castle, it was built

by Bishop Roger in 1130 and is now very ruined and old. This trip was so interesting because I like ruined buildings. I want to come here again.

Bayloz 14 Kurdistan I went to see Shrek at the theatre, it was amazing.

Antoine-Jérome 16 France On a sunny Sunday we had an excursion to Bath and its Roman Baths. It was wonderful to see such remarkable buildings so well-preserved.

Audrey 9 China My favourite lesson is art because in art I can make something and I like drawing.

Monika Poland 16 When I first came to Sherborne I was really scared. I didn’t know anyone and the prospect of talking with many people was horrible. Then I met my roommate Nene from Japan. I was very surprised, because I had never met someone who didn’t know me but was very kind.

She showed me around and helped me every time I had a problem. Here I met many people who I will remember to the last days of my life.

Nika Latvia 13 I learnt how to talk to people, how to be confident, how to start a conversation first and not be shy. The second special thing is that I learned how to do something by myself. I have grown up indeed.

Lisa Germany 14 The whole school went to a science museum in Bristol and thought, “Oh no, not a museum!” but when we went inside I was happy to be there. It was not a normal museum; it was like a playground for science.

Asma 15 Qatar I challenged myself and did things I couldn’t do before.

Chloe 17 China Every day in Sherborne is happy.

Antonia 17 Germany A beautiful time I will never forget.

Patrick 14 Germany As with everybody who has never been to Stone Henge, I only knew the stone formation from pictures on television or postcards. I never really understood why this circle of stones was so famous and why people were so amazed by a couple of rocks until I went on a trip there. When I stood in front of these massive stones, I understood everything. I asked myself how people could have lifted them up without modern means. I will never forget this moment.

Aleksandra Russia 14 I think our trip to Longleat was one of the best trips ever: I had one of the most delicious pizzas I’ve ever tried; after that I took pictures with a snake, a big furry spider, a real penguin and a huge butterfly. I also visited a labyrinth and saw an amazing bird show. ~ Portugal 13 The trips were Joao really fun. The one I enjoyed the most was to Splashdown, not only was it fun but I also started to talk to many more people and it was really special to me.

Francesca 15 Italy I’ve been on a lot of awesome excursions and fantastic trips; I’ve had some really brilliant lessons with amazing people and excellent teachers; I tried a lot of new sports and I had a lot of fun doing it; but I think the most special thing that happened during my stay were the people I met. I spent a lot of great time with great people.

Lena 15 Germany Everybody here respected everybody and I think that is a very important point!

Nazar Russia 15 Everything here was perfect: the food, the people, the sports activities, the friends I made, the teachers, the staff, basically everything. The members of staff are always smiling and willing to help, they like everyone, try to make us happy and to make this time in Sherborne School such fun. The teachers are very intelligent, happy, and funny and they try to combine fun and education in every lesson. I liked all the teachers and found them all very interesting people.
