What Will Your Legacy Be?

Patricia Berlage Lansdale passed away on September 1, 2020 at the age of 92. In a final act of kindness, she made a most generous bequest to the Glenelg Country School endowment. A member of the Legacy ’54 Planned Giving Society since 2015, Lansdale sent her four children (Lindsay Chase-Lansdale ’66, the late Thomas Lansdale III ’68, Richard Lansdale, and James Page Lansdale ’72) to GCS in the 60s and 70s. Her first husband, the late Thomas Franklin Lansdale, was a member of the Board of Trustees for several years during that time. After his death in 1997, Lansdale married widower Jim Rice in 2007.

Lansdale was well known for her volunteerism at the school and had a particular penchant for floral design. A pioneer in the 1970s and 80s, she moved from being a homemaker, gardener, and garden club member to soaring as a professional in the floral business. Her career spanned three decades and in 1976 she founded her own floral design business,

Pat Lansdale Designs, where she became one of the premier flower designers in the DC metro area.

“The school had a very profound effect on all four of us children,” said her son James Page Lansdale ’72. “My mom wanted to recognize that.” For more information on the Legacy ’54 Society, please contact the Development Office.

Class of 2021 Legacy Gift

The Class of 2021’s final year as Dragons didn’t start as they might have expected, but seniors still have much to celebrate and are excited to finish the multi-year Dragon Commons patio project as their Legacy Gift effort. Together with their parents and grandparents, seniors hope to raise at least $25,000 to complete the patio outside the Upper School. Combined with funds raised by the Class of 2020, the class expects to fund the patio extension and landscape the area, providing crucial outdoor gathering space for social distancing. Once completed, the space will feature bronze plaques honoring each of the four classes who contributed to the project: 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
