Elegantly glide around the foor dancing Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz or add some sizzle with a little Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha Cha or Rumba — it just takes a little know-how! Emphasis on foundation rhythms for each style of dance, leading/ following techniques, quintessential moves that help defne the dance style, and having fun! No partner/experience required. Minimum age 13; if accompanied by an adult.
FLAMENCO
Flamenco Dancing with Shawls (Manton) | $60

Class: W, Sep 10–17, 7–8:30pm, Ballroom Back Room, 2 sessions
In this class the student will be introduced to the technique of one of the most popular famenco complements/props, the manton (shawl). This will be the frst of a series of classes geared at introducing the famenco dance student to the most commonly used complements, the technique for their use and a short choreography with it. While some prior experience with famenco is preferred, this class is suitable for all levels. Some mantons (shawls) will be available to borrow but we recommend you bring your own. Minimum age 15.
Sevillanas | $125

Sevillanas is a fun and exciting dance, for people of all ages, that enlivens any party and is essential in any famenco dancer’s repertoire. Sevillanas are divided in four sections called “coplas”. This class will dedicate one day to each of the coplas/sections so that by the end of the class the student will have learned all four Sevillanas. Prior famenco experience is helpful but not required; this class is suitable for dancers of all levels and styles. Minimum age 15.
Flamenco Dancing with Fans (Pericon) | $60

In this class the student will be introduced to the technique of one of the most beautiful famenco complements/props, the pericon (famenco fan). Flamenco dance incorporates many complements/props each with their own technique. This will be the second of a series of classes geared at introducing the famenco dance student to the most commonly used complements, the technique for their use and a short choreography with it. While some prior experience with famenco is preferred, this class is suitable for all levels. Some pericons (famenco fans) will be available to borrow but we recommend you bring your own. Minimum age 15.
Beginner Castanets | $125

Castanets (also known as castañuelas or palillos) are a handheld percussive instrument dating back to the Phoenicians in 1000 B.C. They highlight and accent the intricate rhythms of the many dances they accompany. This class will focus on learning and perfecting the technique for playing castanets to accompany Flamenco. Students will build their fnger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, expand their musical knowledge of complex rhythms and stimulate their brain with fun, challenging exercises. No prior famenco experience is needed. Castanets will be needed and information on where to purchase them can be provided upon registration. Min age: 15.
