Dentzel Carousel
One of the greater Washington, DC area’s true treasures, the historic Glen Echo Park Dentzel Carousel is the Park’s crowning jewel from the amusement park era. Installed at Glen Echo Park in 1921 by the Dentzel Carousel Company of Germantown, PA, the carousel has 52 animals, including horses, rabbits, ostriches, a lion, a tiger, a deer, and a giraffe. Music for the carousel is provided by the 1926 Wurlitzer 165 band organ. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains a classic example of hand wood carving popular in the early 20th century, and is one of the few remaining Dentzel carousels in its original location.
