Excitement is building as the city just celebrated another milestone in the Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project.

Mayor Jerry Weiers, our City Council, COG leadership and various Glendale employees joined the Okland Construction and Holly Street Studio design teams for a ceremony on the site just south of Glenn Drive and west of 58th Avenue During this special event, Mayor Weiers, City Council members, city leaders and construction crew associates inscribed their names and messages on the final steel beam for the development.

City Architect Eddie Garcia gave an update on the progress of the downtown project, which will include a parking garage, City Council Chambers, the E Lowell Rogers amphitheater and the adjacent Murphy Park. Our City Hall campus was constructed in 1984 and needs a major facelift to remain usable for future decades. It is expected to be ready for move-in sometime in the spring of 2026

City employees from various departments came together to celebrate the successful launch of the UKG timekeeping system.

They gathered for the UKG Celebration on Nov. 13 at the Civic Center, where our Human Resources team and COG leaders thanked everyone who helped the city transition to the new timekeeping system, which Glendale officially began using in September. City Manager Kevin Phelps, Assistant City Manager Vicki Rios and Deputy City Manager Rick St. John gave heartfelt and humorous speeches about how changes can be stressful but employees did a great job learning the new system, training their colleagues and handling glitches.

A funny video that was a spoof on the popular sports, comedy-drama TV show, “Ted Lasso,” thanking employees for adapting to UKG, was shown at the event. Rios, St. John, Human Resources and Risk Management Director Jim Brown, Interim Chief Information Officer Arlene Chemello and Budget and Finance Director Levi Gibson acted in the video, which was a follow-up to a previous video of them portraying characters from the show that was released a few months ago to reveal basic information about the timekeeping changes that were coming. Our talented video team produced both videos.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! Thank you for working to improve the lives of the residents we serve every day.

As a reminder, city offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov 28 and 29
