Tall and spotty wedding theme When thinking of a theme for your wedding the first one that comes to mind may not be a tall furry animal, but Ryan Colbran and Yuka Kobayashi tied the knot a few months ago by celebrating their wedding at Australia Zoo with family and friends to coincide with World Giraffe Day! In the days leading up to their big day, Ryan and Yuka paid a visit to their favourite animals – Australia Zoo’s giraffe family, with Skye the gorgeous giraffe stealing a few kisses from the

bride (and even the groom)! Passionate about all things tall and spotty, Yuka even hand-stitched her ring bearer pillow to have Australia Zoo’s resident giraffes, Forrest and Rosie, sewed on. Ryan and Yuka are Australia Zoo annual pass holders who often visit and sit along the African Savannah to watch the herd of eight gorgeous giraffes eat, roam and play on the grassy plains – it’s true love.

Wedding Guide

Grab the girls for some Bridal Shower fun

by Sonia Clark The lead up to any wedding can be busy and, let’s face it, sometimes even a teeny bit stressful as you sort through seemingly endless to do lists. For many brides-to-be, a chance to really unwind (a glass or two of bubbles can help), relax and be pampered with a bunch of close girlfriends before the big day is an opportunity not to be missed. A bridal shower or ‘Hen’s Day’ devoted to fun and frivolities is a wonderful way to enjoy pre-wedding time with your nearest and dearest and have some indulgent ‘you time’. Around the Hinterland, we are blessed with a number of options that can suit all budgets and interests, so grab your ‘besties’ and let’s check out a couple of local suggestions. Everyone loves a good pampering session and you can just hear the squeals of joy at the thought of spending a day at the sumptuously appointed Spicers Tamarind Retreat. The retreat offers

Hen's high tea at The Orangery

a wonderful array of tailored spa menu and cuisine options, and you can choose a day of laughs, lunch and bubbly or time rejuvenating and revitalising. For local groups, a free shuttle bus service may also be available which gives everyone a chance to let their hair down. All treatments feature the signature ‘foot bath ritual’ designed to allow a blissful start to your experience. Treatments extend from magical 45 minute manicures all the way through to the ultimate decadence of a five hour spa retreat. Whatever you choose, you can truly immerse yourselves in the art of relaxation all set against a fabulously luxurious setting. If you are looking for something a little more traditional and have a bigger group to cater for, then a sit down high tea at The Orangery at Maleny is a popular option. With a Hamptons inspired decor and lashings of vintage chic, this venue certainly knows how to pull out all the stops for a sumptuous high tea. Using local ingredients their cakes ‘are to die for’ and they can easily cater to all size groups with a lovely selection of finger foods, sandwiches and cupcakes, all beautifully presented on traditional tiered stands. If you like the idea of eating off gorgeous vintage inspired crockery in an inviting and welcoming space surrounded by your ladies, then this is the spot for you. For something a little different, Emily Larkin from The Posy Co has been holding ‘Flower Crown’

workshops as a unique way to celebrate bridal showers. Held in collaboration with the talented artisan chefs at Henry & Co at Landsborough, it means that groups up to 20 can enjoy an interactive and hands-on two-hour workshop and also enjoy gorgeous grazing tables which include fresh and dried fruits, nuts, meats and antipasto, while being served with your drink of choice (or maybe BYO bottles of bubbles). The fun-filled workshops are generally held on the weekends and include the cost of all materials, fresh flowers, instructions, and advice on where to source supplies Grazing table at Henry & Co for making headpieces in the future. For more details visit: Spicers Tamarind Retreat, 88 Obi Lane South, Maleny. The Orangery, 10 Mountain View Road, Maleny. Henry & Co, 34 Cribb Street, Landsborough.
