It’s Street Party time It looks like GC&M News were in a bit of a time warp, thinking about some of their favourite entertainment at past Street Parties when writing the story about this year’s event for this week’s edition. We are sorry to disappoint readers, but sadly Elvis won’t be making any appearances at the street party this year. Below is the correct version of the Street Party story that should have appeared in this week’s edition. Organisers of the Glasshouse Country Street Party Beerwah are busy putting together the final touches to this year's highly anticipated event to make sure it all goes off with a bang. This massive community celebration will take over Simpson Street, Beerwah Market Place and Village and surrounds this Friday, October 18 from 4-9pm, with organisers expecting a crowd of around 10,000 people. Celebrate Glasshouse Country project officer Judy Tomlinson said the organisers had been overwhelmed at the positive responses and generous sponsorship support from people and businesses from all over Glasshouse Country. “We are so excited to be able to celebrate not only the wonderful people and communities that make up the Glasshouse Country area but also help showcase and support our local community, business and tourism," Judy said. "We’ve had some incredible support for this year’s street party, which is shaping up to be the
biggest and best we’ve organised so far.” Incorporating Simpson Street, the post office car park area, a dedicated ride zone and entertainment areas around Beerwah Marketplace and Village and various spots throughout surrounding areas – the Street Party is going to be big! Party goers will be able to reclaim Simpson Street as it will be closed to traffic allowing everyone to savour the various food and market stalls, street dining and live entertainment. Judy said the food outlets along Simpson Street and the shopping centre would feature street dining options and to complement the businesses there would be numerous street food stalls representing many nationalities as well as vegan and vegetarian options on offer. “It’s wonderful to see so many of our dining outlets and surrounding businesses getting into full party mode for the celebration. We’ve also got heaps of free family friendly activities and entertainment such as the Party Ponies Petting Zoo, circus skills workshops, ukulele performers and more,” Judy said. This year’s rides will be awesome with a massive 35m triple slide, super rock-climbing wall and bigger cup-and-saucer ride.

Judy said that as well as the community emphasis, this year would also focus on pushing "the eco side" with all participants asked to be mindful of reducing their environmental impact and waste. Local community groups that promote sustainability will also be showcased including the Boomerang Bags, the War on Waste group and the cash-for-containers scheme, which will be undertaken with Queensland Scouts. Street Party musical director Jenny Broderick said she was excited to be able to showcase the musical talent of both emerging and established local artists as well as a dedicated local school kids showcase from 4-6pm, with a jam packed program of live entertainment for the event. “We’ve got some incredible talent performing including upcoming country music star Cassi Marie and local band The Reserves on stage from 8pm. We’ll have performances on the main stage and nearby bus stop music zone as well as buskers and other performers in various locations. It’s all about bringing the community together,” Jenny said.
