R
eading about the Queen's Baton Relay for next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast (see story on page 7) which will be coming to Caloundra made me curious to work out where the actual route would be. By looking at the map on the Commonwealth Games website, all I could find is a map of Australia with its journey marked ‘as the crow flies’, so it is hard to get an exact idea of where the route will be. However, you would have to think that if it travels from Kilcoy to Caloundra that there is a good chance that the township of Beerwah will feature in it. For most of us who aren’t elite athletes, it would be a wonderful (probably a once in a lifetime) opportunity to get to be a part of such a significant sporting event. So I am really hoping that the Baton Relay's route might encourage people to nominate many of our unsung local heroes as possible baton bearers! You have until May 15 this year to nominate someone – and, no, I am not angling to be nominated. But I am keen to have lots of locals to photograph on the big day!! Regards,

North Maleny resident Margot Menkens has signed up with three other friends to participate as ‘Team Infinity’ in the 2017 Kokoda Challenge in mid July. The 96 kilometre, 39 hour trek through the Gold Coast Hinterland raises funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation which seeks to change the lives of Aussie teens through outdoor programs and activities. Team Infinity consists of Margot, her old school friend Amy and two members of her local gym, Darron and Carl. The team all have children and so were drawn to the benefits of the Kokoda Youth Foundation as well as thinking it would be a crazy but fun idea to do! Given the gruelling nature of the trek, training for the team members is well underway. Margot (who manages her family’s Angus Beef farm) trains daily by combining farm work with her fulltime study which she does on a treadmill (often with a 20 kilo vest on!). The team have also been taking advantage of the mixed terrain of some of the Sunshine Coast’s ‘Great Walks’ with plans to tackle the Mapleton 40km circuit and the Kenilworth 50km track in training preparation. “The training tracks here are just fantastic for what we are going to face on the challenge ahead,” says Margot.

Margot training for the Kokoda Challenge Fundraising plays an important part in the challenge and Margot’s family have donated a mixed quarter pack of Black Angus Beef as an enticing raffle prize. Valued at $810, the prize has an approximate weight of 60kg of meat! Tickets are $5.00 and already the team have raised over $1,100 in ticket sales. If you would like to support Team Infinity go to www.kokodachallenge.com/donateonline and let Margot know you’ve donated at margotmenkens@bigpond.com so she can put your name down for the raffle which will be drawn in July.

As you may have heard the Beerwah and Glass House Mountains areas have recently had a number of break and enter offences, that is entry into houses, also entry into vehicles and stealing from both houses and vehicles. The offences generally have involved taking small items such as phones, tablets, jewellery and cash, most of which were left either in vehicles or easily accessible areas of the house. Also in most cases the cars and houses were unlocked. I’m sure some of you are sick of hearing me say it, but most thieves are opportunistic. If you lock your house and car doors, there is a lot less chance that you will be a victim of theft. Offenders might try the doors of every car in the street but will generally only steal from the ones that are unlocked. Now admittedly there are times that they will break a window to access whatever is inside but this is generally when there is an item of value left in plain sight inside the vehicle. Most of the recent offences happened while people were home in bed, so the offenders were not interested in breaking windows etc, and alerting people to their presence. Beerwah Police with the assistance of the

Sunshine Coast Crime Prevention Unit have been working hard over the past couple of weeks to raise community awareness of the “Lock it or lose it” message. You may have seen our Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) doing letterbox drops in the area and putting flyers on vehicles to remind people to lock up. Say “hi” if you see them, and don’t panic – it’s not a ticket they are putting on your car. You may also see our VIPs around the mountain carparks sometime, as they often patrol through to reinforce the messages of both locking vehicles and not leaving valuables behind, or at least putting them out of sight. Aim to make it harder for thieves. Lock your house even when you are home if you are not likely to hear someone enter, whether because you are asleep or just out the back doing the lawn. Lock your car even if it is in your driveway and don’t leave valuable items in it, even loose change can be enough of an incentive to break in.

A group of patients of the Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital will have an opportunity to have a say on their public hospital experience, and help further enhance the quality of services at their local hospital. The second state-wide Queensland Health Small Hospitals Patient Experience Survey is underway and staff at Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital are confident patients will give them the thumbs up for the care they received. Senior Medical Superintendant at the Maleny facility, Dr Ted Chamberlain, is highly supportive of the survey. “When the survey was last conducted in 2014, 230 interviews were completed with patients from Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital and the results showed that Maleny was one of the state’s best small hospitals, scoring well above average in most measures,” Dr Chamberlain said. “This is a very important survey that helps to acknowledge the work that small hospitals do throughout Queensland, and it will highlight the great work and exceptional care provided by the people who work here at Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital.” The telephone survey is aimed at patients who were discharged from over 80 small hospitals in Queensland between October 2016 and January 2017 and asks them to rate various aspects of their care. Dr Chamberlain said knowing what patients experienced through their hospital visit was a key component in ensuring the delivery of high quality health care. “An integral part of improving patient-centred care is measuring the patient’s experience, and this patient survey will provide a statewide and hospital specific snapshot of that experience. “In finding out what patients experienced and if they are satisfied with the care provided, we can identify areas for improvement and service quality improvement initiatives.” For more information about the phone survey, visit the Queensland Health website: www.health.qld.gov.au/system-governance/performance

Jammin’ for Jared
By Sonia Clark
Friends and relatives have rallied around the young family of Jared Hossack who tragically lost his life suffering a severe asthma attack on February 26. Just months away from being married to his fiancée Annie, and a father to their four children, the loss of the young Beerwah man has left his family and friends understandably devastated. The local community have banded together and have organised a special fundraising day ‘Jammin’ for Jared’ to be held on Saturday, March 25 at the Beerwah Sports Grounds from noon until midnight. Organisers invite everyone to come along and celebrate Jared’s love of music and basketball at the family day out, with all proceeds raised given directly to assist Annie and their children during this challenging time. The hope is that through the fundraising efforts on the day, some of the financial burden can be lifted for Jared’s fiancée Annie to allow her to concentrate on healing herself and their children. Local and Sunshine Coast individuals and businesses have thrown their support behind the event with a substantial amount of raffle and auction items up for grabs – including sports memorabilia such as signed goggles from Toby Price (KTM Red Bull Rider and 2016 Dakar Champion) and a signed and framed Jason Akermanis jersey. The day will feature various stalls, food and drinks, live music and entertainment and a heap of children’s activities including face painting and jumping castle.
Jared and Annie The club house bar will also be open for the adults and prizes on the day will include holidays, electrical items, products and services – so make sure you bring cash on the day. To celebrate Jared’s love of basketball, the day will also have basketball playoff games as part of the fundraising efforts. The games will be five minute halves with five people per team aged ten years and older – teams can pick their own uniform (same colour or same costume) and a donation to play is requested. Younger kids can participate in free play games. To register your team please email amday82@ yahoo.com.au. For more information visit the ‘Jammin’ for Jared’ Facebook page.

Queen’s Baton to go to Caloundra It's offical - Caloundra will be one of the Australian celebration communities that will take part in the Queen’s Baton Relay. The eyes of the Commonwealth will be on Caloundra on March 27, 2018 as the Baton journeys towards its final destination, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Opening Ceremony on April 4, 2018. Mayor Mark Jamieson said it was an honour to have one of the Sunshine Coast’s favourite locations selected as an official celebration community. GOLDOC are calling on local legends to carry the Queen’s Baton during the Caloundra leg. A community nomination program, which opens today, will offer the people of the Sunshine Coast region with an opportunity to carry the Baton. “I encourage you to nominate a local legend you think deserves to be a batonbearer, whether they’re an aspiring young person or someone who is already accomplished,” Mayor Jamieson said. “The Queen’s Baton Relay is a rare opportunity to shine a light on the people and places that help make our community truly great.” Across Australia approximately 3,800 batonbearers are needed to share the dream of the ‘friendly Games’ as part of the QBR. Batonbearers are people of all abilities who inspire others to be great. Batonbearers will represent a community with pride and showcase to the world the region’s great people, sporting achievements, cultural activity and landscapes. Until May 15, 2017, anyone can nominate a person who inspires them to be great. Batonbearer nominations can be made at gc2018.com/qbr.

The Queen’s Baton carries a message from Her Majesty The Queen through the entire Commonwealth. The Games are declared officially open when the message is read aloud. The Baton started its global journey at Buckingham Palace on Commonwealth Day, Monday, March 13. It will travel through every Commonwealth nation and territory on its way to Australia. “I for one can’t wait for the start of the QBR on Commonwealth Day, Monday 13 March, and to follow its journey around the world on its way to Caloundra and the Opening Ceremony of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Mountain View Challenge participation trophy taken out by coastal cousins
Contributed by Mike Foal The Lions Club of Maleny Blackall Range will be holding the annual Mountain View Challenge events on Sunday, October 15 this year at the Maleny Showgrounds. Besides organising a half marathon and 10km and 5km events for all comers, the club puts considerable effort into attracting primary school children to represent their school in the 3km participation event that is also open to parents and grandparents. The Maleny Realty Participation Trophy is awarded to the school which has the highest proportion of participants in proportion to the number of children enrolled. Parents and grandparents are counted as participants too. In October 2016 the Participation Trophy was won by the Caloundra City Private School who took part for the first time under the leadership of Cassandra Reynolds and other supporters. They have thrown down the gauntlet to the primary schools of the Hinterland and the Blackall Range who are likely to respond with an extra effort to match their coastal ‘cousins’ by turning up in great numbers this year. The Lions are particularly interested in helping youngsters to enjoy running, and hope that being able to represent their school, without the expectation that they are highly competitive, makes it that much more fun. They hope too that having members of the extended family there adds even further to the enjoyment.
What's new If you have seen this structure going up beside the roundabout in Beerwah and wondered what it would be, then wonder no longer – Cr Baberowski has confirmed that it will be Beerwah’s new ‘Entry Statement’, which he says has been a long time coming, but will be worth the wait!
The Participation Trophy is presented by Lions Club President Peter Jensen to Caloundra City Private School Principal Dirk Welham, accompanied by staff members Cassandra Reynolds (second from left) and Lauren Trelau

How hot was our school kitchen? The answer to this trivia question is very hot! After this long hot summer, Peachester State School P&C is very motivated to raise enough funds to have air-conditioning installed in our Stephanie Alexander School Kitchen before next summer. This will ensure that our cooking classes are more comfortable and our cooking teacher Mrs Thorne and helpers survive another hot summer. After the success of the last community Trivia Night, many locals now have the trivia bug and are keen to make trivia nights a regular activity throughout the year, with the first one on Saturday, March 18 at 6.30pm for 7.00pm start at the Peachester Hall. To register your team of eight, please call Fiona Gray on 0424 112 916 (before March 16). If you don’t have a team and would still like to come along, please purchase a ticket and we can arrange a team that will be happy to share many trivia facts with you. Ticket cost is $15.00 per person and they can be purchased from Peachester School or Peachester Fruit Shop. Bring along your own savoury snacks. Tea, coffee and cake will be supplied, and there will be a bar open to purchase beer, wine or cider.

Business feature Michael Adcock is one of the latest Saver6.com small business owners who have chosen the opportunity to become a Transportable Shade Shed reseller. Based in Capalaba, Michael looks forward to combining his new business venture with his already established family business. Currently running a small engineering shop, he looks forward to locking in future business growth options for himself and also for his son who will be leaving high school. “I’m quite excited, and can see a lot of avenues with the range of Transportable Shade Shed products to generate additional income,” explains Michael. “I’m also looking forward to getting my son involved which will be great as he is very interested in the new business. I think it will prove to be a good opportunity and I’m excited to put the effort in.” Becoming a Transportable Shade Shed reseller is a viable business that can provide great opportunities for families to work together. Michael already has a background in shed building and he is looking forward to providing a kick start into business for his son. In addition to the skill sets that Michael can draw upon to make the new business a success, the Transportable Shade Shed products are backed by extensive online business marketing and mentorship support through the Saver6.com cloud-based platform. Saver6.com’s small business strategy also includes access to bookkeeping, lead generation, brochure creation and direct mail out support and social media promotion. A key advantage of becoming a Transportable Shade Shed reseller in conjunction with an existing business is that existing customers can become new Shade Shed customers and Shade Shed customers can engage work from the resellers’ other existing business. Michael was impressed by the quality, durability and adaptability of the products along with the almost unlimited potential for use. Suiting a domestic, industrial and semi-rural market, the range is available in various designs, sizes and finishes using the highest quality manufactured materials, including fully galvanised steel and genuine colorbond sheeting. Transportable Shade Sheds can provide the perfect cover for cars, boats, caravans, pools, semi-agricultural uses or livestock. Wind rated, engineered planned and certified they can be used as carports, patios and entertaining areas to offer protection from the elements and extreme weather. Michael is also excited about the new generation range of products which he believes appeal to his local market – in particular he can see a robust demand for the new line of ‘Shade trees’ and awnings. “The products and business model ticked all the boxes for me. The entire process has been really straight forward and easy and all the staff at the head office in Landsborough have been really good and helpful,” says Michael. If you know someone looking for a Transportable Shade Shed around the Capalaba / South Brisbane area please contact Michael on 0447 023 105. Play it safe on the roads these holidays With School Holidays and Easter coming up in April, many of us will be planning to hit the wide open road and get out of town. Before you leave make sure your vehicle is safe for the road, make sure you get enough rest and plan ahead. You should always plan your trip before heading off. The Queensland Police reckon that good preparation for your long trip includes checking your vehicle is safe for the trip, by double checking the following essentials on your vehicle. 1. Tyres - check they are in good condition and at the right pressure including the spare 2. Fluid levels - brake, coolant, oil, clutch, automatic transmission, power steering, water 3. Lights - headlights, high-beams, reverse, indicators and brake 4. Windscreen wipers are working in case of wet weather 5. Battery 6. Fan belt condition and tension 7. Coolant hoses - ensure your coolant does not leak and the hoses are in good condition 8. Tow bar and connections (if towing) 9. Ensure you have enough fuel for the journey. If you aren’t sure about undertaking any of these checks why not make sure – book your car into one of our local professionals to give you piece of mind before you travel. Once you are on the trip you should take a break every two hours and don’t drive for more than 8 - 10 hours per day. The Queensland Police also recommend you plan which rest areas and driver reviver sites you will pull into on your journey. During autumn you will find Driver Reviver Stops on March 31 and April 1 and 2 and then again over the Easter period from Good Friday, April 14 through to Easter Monday on April 17. So be prepared, do the right thing while you are on the road, and enjoy the break away from the everyday.

Feeling fruity With Spencer and Karen Shaw Not only does Forest Heart stock the best range of bush food plants on the Sunshine Coast, we have a great range of fruit trees for your orchard and backyard. We believe a key way that we can reduce our negative impacts on the natural environment is by not only returning local native plants to our gardens, farms and the wider landscape, but also taking responsibility for some of our own food production and that’s where some exotic fruit and nut trees can help! Harvesting your own produce is fun, healthy and convenient. There’s nothing quite like popping out into the backyard to harvest some fresh produce. Harvest fresh from your own trees the fruit of Pomegranate, Oranges, Mandarin, Lime, Lemon, Carambola, Figs, Pawpaw, Tamarillo, Avocado, Rollina, to name just a few. Bush food must haves that you should plant in your yard include: Midyim (Austromyrtus dulcis) – a great low-growing shrub/groundcover; Riberry Syzygium luehmannii – tastes good raw and even better glaced in a sugar syrup; Davidson Plums (Davidsonia spp.) – although not strictly local, are spectacular foliage specimens with their large leaves and large, beautifullooking sour plum-like fruit; Plum Pine (Podocarpus elatus) – also produce a juicy succulent, plum-like fruit with a pleasant pine taste and again, fantastic for jams and syrups. Grow and enjoy the taste of your own fruit, nuts and bush foods.
You Said It Tree removal at the Maleny Girl Guide Hut
Maleny Girl Guides would like to inform all residents about the tree removal at the Guide Hut. The tree in question was a Queensland Maple planted by the Girl Guides about 50 years ago. At the time it was planted a distance from the building but since then the building was extended and the tree grew. Although the tree was often used in activities and had a strong link with the Girl Guides of Maleny it was identified for removal eight years ago due to many issues beyond Girl Guides control. Girl Guides could only negotiate a contractor of choice and the salvage rights to the timber. Removal of the tree was privately funded and the Sunshine Coast Council and State Government were consulted. No money donated by local community groups was used for its removal and no applications for funding for the removal have been submitted by Girl Guides. 90% of the tree was donated to local not for profit groups and artists and 10% remains in the ground. Many magnificent items will come from this tree to showcase the local talents of Maleny and surrounds. The Girl Guides insisted on donating the timber rather than wasting it by chipping such a quality timber. Girl Guides intend to do a yearly tree planting as part of their activities and intend planting a new garden upon completion of the renovations to the Guide Hut. We thank the community for all your ongoing support. A loss for the Girl Guides, but a gain for the Maleny community. Leanne Large Maleny Girl Guides
Montville turnoff
This intersection on Landsborough Maleny Road, to turn to Montville has been a problem for years with thick grass and weeds growing up in the median strips separating the opposing roads. This high vegetation used to obscure vehicles coming up from Landsborough when a right turn was being made by another vehicle from the Montville road turning into Landsborough road. Mowing was only done when the situation became desperate. However thanks to our local representative Andrew Powell heeding the complaints of locals and making representations it has been cleaned up and made safer with concrete replacing the grass. The intersection looks great with clear views in all directions. Congratulations to the Department of Transport and Main Roads and others concerned. Kevin Howell Maleny

Local author Jenny Allen is celebrating 20 years of permaculture gardening at her Maleny property. And on May 14, she is opening up her garden for a workshop – ‘Paradise in My Garden… The 20 Year Anniversary’. “When I first designed my garden, it was difficult to imagine it in 20 years time,” Jenny said. “That’s longer than the average marriage, whilst it was challenging enough planning a trip to the supermarket. “I had many things to think of… it was like playing a game of chess with everything interrelating. One ill-conceived move could be costly: an innocent seedling could end up as large as a carport, a delight for the birds and wildlife, but in the wrong place an expensive headache.” Good design looks at a garden as a whole. Everything interconnects. In return, the garden treats you as a whole. It pleases not only your taste buds, but rewards your eyes, ears, nose and soul as well. “With these benefits in mind, designing my garden was fun and rewarding. I planned for 40 different fruit trees, a cabinet timber plantation, a bush food garden, a rainforest, a palm grove, a picturesque lake, windbreaks, abundant wildlife and, of course, beauty.” In conjunction with Barung Landcare, Jenny will be opening up her Maleny garden for the workshop, ‘Paradise in My Garden… The 20 Year Anniversary’. It’s on Sunday, May 14, 2.00pm to 4.00pm, limited to 20 people. Clean Up thanks
This year we had close to 20 volunteers turn up to participate in the ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ efforts at Bells Creek Road and Roys Road and they all did a magnificent job – sweat was flowing, legs were pumping, and their bags just kept filling up. However, this year, for a first, we actually had the biggest bin ever to fill, and we only managed to fill it half full, and that is a huge and positive response to the public for their efforts in continued rubbish awareness and responsible dumping in the right areas. All of us volunteers would like to thank McDonalds in Glass House who supplied cheeseburgers to everybody that participated and also to IGA in Beerwah who supplied cold water and soft drinks to all volunteers. We would also like to extend our thanks to Daleys Turf for their continued support in supplying vehicles to assist in the clean up. Now, to the volunteers who donated their time and enthusiasm, you all did a great job, and this whole scenario wouldn’t be worth doing unless you guys participated, so thank you to all volunteers who gave their time and energy for a damn good cause. Anybody interested in helping out next year, it’s the same place, same first Sunday in March at 9.00am. Hope to see you there. Rose Clean Up volunteer

Car vandalism
I work in the community as a Care Worker, and on Friday, March 3 I took a client out in my car and I parked my blue four door Holden Barina in the Disability Car Park in front of the Beerwah Medical Centre, in Simpson Street at Beerwah. I also had the ‘Disability Tag’ on display. I was away from my car from 11.05am -11.20am and on returning to my car to take my client to go shopping I noticed both right hand side doors had been deeply keyed. No other part of my car had been damaged. The person who did this would have had to walk down the main street into oncoming traffic (not on the foot path). My client was also very upset that this had happened to my car. Perhaps someone may have witnessed a person acting suspiciously around the vehicle at the above time. Please contact the Beerwah Police on 5436 5222 if you have any information which may help their enquiries. Kerrie Joliffe Beerwah
Marriage truth
World Day of Prayer
On Friday, March 3, 65 people attended the World Day of Prayer service, which was compiled by the Philippine committee of World Day of Prayer and hosted by the Anglican Community at the Mary MacKillop Centre, Beerwah. Members from seven local churches participated in the service. The guest speaker, Fr Michael Martin, gave a very poignant address relating to the theme, ‘Am I being unfair to you?’ All enjoyed a most delicious morning tea and meaningful fellowship while enjoying a cuppa after the service. Thank you to all who attended and may all have been moved in some way to the sentiments expressed throughout the service. Next year’s World Day of Prayer service will be held at Church on the Rise, Beerwah Parade, Beerwah.
In response to Nina Ashfield's letter (March 8, 2017) in support of marriage equality: Marriage is a covenant relationship – a lifelong union – between one man and one woman. It is an exclusive relationship that has existed from time beginning and is designed to last through to the end of time and it is certainly not something to be changed on a whim or the moral excesses of the day. For marriage policy to serve the common good, it must reflect the truth that marriage unites a man and a woman as husband and wife so that children will have both a mother and a father. Marriage is based on the anthropological truth that men and woman are distinct and complementary, the biological fact that reproduction depends on a man and a woman, and the social reality that children deserve a mother and a father. Redefining marriage to make it a genderless institution fundamentally changes marriage: It makes the relationship more about the desires of adults than about the needs – or rights – of
children. Further, it teaches the lie that mothers and fathers are interchangeable*. Only a man can make a woman ‘a mother’ and ‘a wife’ and only a woman can make a man ‘a father’ and ‘a husband’. A constitutional right to same-sex marriage means a constitutional right to same-sex adoption and surrogacy, however gender differences are critical and children have a biological birthright to a mother and a father – homosexual marriage would deprive them of that right. Strong, healthy marriages mean strong, healthy families, which mean strong, healthy nations. Interestingly, Nina's letter makes no mention of children at all, after all, marriage is more about children's rights when it all boils down to it – and when you remove a child's biological right to a mummy and a daddy, then you're starting to unravel the very foundation of society as we know it. And I believe it would be a very foolhardy soul who would choose to walk down that path. *The Canberra Declaration, www.canberradeclaration.org.au Lynda M Utting Beerwah
Mount Tibrogargan fall
On Saturday, March 4 I was coming down from Mount Tibrogargan and slipped on some wet rocks and fell, sustaining head and back injuries. I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the people that helped me during this accident, especially the other people on the mountain at that time who stopped me from falling further and gave me immediate first aid. On behalf of my wife and I, we would also like to thank the first responders and emergency teams who helped us throughout this ordeal, specifically the people that had just come back from a rescue on Mt Beerwah earlier that morning. They were incredibly calm and professional throughout and we don’t know how we would have come through this without them. From someone who frequents the mountains regularly, and can hear the helicopters from my home, sometimes we can take for granted how lucky we are to have this service if unfortunately we ever need it. I am now at home slowly recovering and counting my blessings, but also reflecting on the great community that we live in. Could you use your super to buy your first home? Housing affordability is one of the hot topics in the lead-up to May’s federal budget. One policy the Australian government is considering involves allowing Aussies to access their superannuation to buy their first home, as The Australian reported on 22nd of Febuary. The Turnbull government is pushing for a scheme that would enable Australians who have made voluntary contributions to their super to access some of their retirement funds early in order to purchase their first property. This is just one of several options the Coalition is considering for its housing www.gcnews.com.au
affordability scheme, and it’s likely that the final budget package presented will contain a variety of measures. “There are many ideas that are in the embryonic stage,” Michael Sukkar, the Minister responsible for housing affordability, told The Australian. House prices have increased dramatically in recent years, as ABS data shows, which is not news to first home buyers struggling to enter the property market. Affordability is a pertinent issue facing Australians under 35 in particular. Subsequently, governmentinitiated policies to assist first home
buyers will surely be welcomed. Across the ditch, our Antipodean neighbours introduced a similar scheme in 2007 to help Kiwis save for their retirement. Under the KiwiSaver scheme, New Zealanders are able to put their own contributions, their employer’s contributions, returns on investment
and member tax credits towards their first property. This is provided they’ve been participating in the scheme for at least three years and have a minimum balance of $1,000 in their KiwiSaver account. Regardless of whether the Coalition’s
proposed scheme ends up being one of the measures introduced by May’s federal budget, the fact that the government is seriously addressing housing affordability is good news for those thinking about taking out their first home loan in the near future.

School News Clean Up Australia Day
All kinds of rubbish
Contributed by Kylie Merola Landsborough State School participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Friday, March 3. Younger students focussed on cleaning up the school grounds, whilst children in Years 5 and 6 ventured into the local community to clean streets and parks. It was an excellent opportunity for them to learn about the kinds of rubbish found around their school and town, and the effects it has on the natural environment. Disappointingly, the materials found were mostly recyclable items such as glass and plastic bottles, aluminium cans, cardboard and paper. Other items found in abundance in local streets were things like cigarette butts and food packaging. Deputy Principal Amanda Shone said, “We are so proud that our students contributed to a worthy cause to make our community a cleaner place. “The aim is that they will become more conscious of the impact of littering and continue to clean up throughout the year.”
On Sunday March 5, a small group of willing volunteers met at Beerwah State High School at 9.00am to participate in the Student Council’s clean-up of the school grounds. Volunteers cleaned the edges of the ovals where wind has blown numerous items of rubbish and also cleaned up hard to reach areas where rubbish has gathered. In total ten bags of rubbish were collected. The Student Council provided volunteers with a sausage sizzle at the end of the clean-up as a way of saying thank you for donating part of their weekend for a great cause. The Student Council is currently investigating ways to encourage students to dispose of their rubbish thoughtfully on the school grounds.
School Leadership Conference Contributed by Roni and Emily F Last month school leaders from Glenview State School attended the GRIP leadership conference at the Lake Kawana Community Centre. The conference was about leaders and realising their strengths and weaknesses. The conference was enjoyable and we are sure everyone learnt a thing or two about leadership. Unfortunately some leaders were not able to attend as there was a clash of events on the same day. However, for those that could attend it was a great experience.

Food for thought for people with diabetes Learning about food and what to eat is a top priority for a growing number of Sunshine Coast residents newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Healthy Lifestyle Officer Kerry Roach said people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes commonly shared a fear of food and were looking for a silver bullet approach to managing their diet. The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service delivers monthly ‘Type 2 Diabetes and Me’ information sessions designed to alleviate food concerns and highlight that dietary choices should be tailored to the individual. The next information session is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, 9.00am - 1.00pm at the Maroochy RSL Memorial Avenue, Maroochydore. A clinical nurse, dietitian, social worker and health promotion officer will speak on the day and be available to answer all of your questions. To be eligible to attend this workshop, you must be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes (confirmed by your GP), be over 18 years of age, be able to attend group education for four hours, and be able to learn in the company of others. If you meet the eligibility criteria above, please don’t delay, register your interest today by calling Central Intake on 5450 4747.

Why is your thyroid a big deal? Contributed by Kaz from Soulqi
Why are so many people being diagnosed with Hashimotos? The answer is many things: 1. Stress which affects our HPA axis and it cascades from there. 2. Food, poor nutrition (processed foods) leading to leaky gut and SIBO. 3. Toxins and neurotoxins in our environment. But what does this feel like if you’re having symptoms? This is my story, I just had my fifth baby and was always so tired. I had put on 30 kilos since she was born in January by June, my hair was falling out in clumps, and I had brain fog to the max. So I went to my GP after tests, only to be told nothing was wrong and everything was in the normal range. This went on for three years. I was seriously unwell, yet had managed to fall pregnant again with baby number six. After his birth my Hashimotos was in full swing. I found a doctor who specialised in autoimmune disease, but I had answers, no options, just a medication. Calm the inflammation drivers down, find ways to de-stress and cut gluten and take dairy out of your diet, as gluten – the modified toxic wheat we consume daily and Casein from dairy is damaging your intestinal lining, leading to leaky gut and absorption issues of key nutrients. Then your body produces antibodies and then it’s a slippery slope of what I call Zombie cells attacking your amazing little gland that regulates so many functions in your brain, blood and even your joints. For me it was too late to reverse any of this damage, and I ended up with Coeliacs (very common). I urge anyone suffering to research alternatives, find an acupuncturist or naturopath, or even a very expensive doctor who knows all about autoimmune disease, and make the dietary changes that work for your body not against it – and remember to BREATHE.

Contributed by Julie Stower and Julie Evans Would you like to enhance your connection with your partner? Today with such busy lives we tend to simply go through the motions of daily tasks and forget to take time to nurture one of our most important relationships, the one with our partner. When we don’t take the time to connect, space is created. In that space animosity, loneliness and contempt started from minor discrepancies can grow and fester and before we know it major communication issues have formed. Our Couples Communication and Massage Workshop aims to give you communication skills and awareness through interactive discussion followed with basic massage techniques to create awareness and communication through touch and the simple gift of giving without expectation and allowing ourselves to receive without obligation. Massage nurtures the soul, calms the mind and relieves tension, allowing space for relaxed open communication to take place. This workshop promises to lift your relationship to the next level. A conversation with the philosopher
Music St Patrick’s Day at Witta Get out and do the Irish thing for St Patrick's Day at an intimate concert featuring Irish Joe Lynch, who is a well-loved poet and storyteller – dramatic and lively, with such a gift with words you will get to visit every emotion you possess. Jenny Fitzgibbon sings with flavours of a traditional Ireland – her strong voice soars. Jeremy Dunlop’s guitar accompaniment is a delightful blend of harmony and rhythm, with a folk, jazz and country vibe. There will also be a special set of comic Irish songs to make you laugh into your Guinness. The event will be held at Witta’s Old School Hall, Witta Road, on Saturday, March 18 from 6.00pm. Bring your own indoor picnic and sit at the cabaret style tables from 6.00pm (tea, coffee and cake available to purchase), entertainment from 7.00pm. Tickets are $15.00 and $10.00 for concession and 18s and under are free. Further information: 0429 916 493.

As part of the ‘Outspoken’ series of events, Steven Lang will be presenting conversations with both philosopher A.C. Grayling and Sunshine Coast author Shelley Davidow on Tuesday, March 28 from 5.45pm for 6.30pm at the Maleny Community Centre. A.C. Grayling is a genuine example of that much bandied about thing, a most remarkable man. Born in Rhodesia, raised in Nyasaland, he discovered a love for philosophy at the age of twelve, going on to study at ever more prestigious institutions, culminating in Magdelene College, Oxford. Apart from being the author of thirty books, he writes widely on contemporary issues, including war crimes, euthanasia, secularism, the legalisation of drugs and human rights. He founded the New College of The Humanities, an independent undergraduate college in London, where he is presently the Master, and was, just this year, awarded the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to philosophy. His most recent book, ‘The Age of Genius, the Seventeenth Century and the Invention of the Modern Mind’, argues that the mind-set of modern times was established in the 1600s, amid terrible war and great injustice. His contention is that, despite such turmoil, this was the period in which ideas of magic and revelation, and the dead hand of religious law, first gave way to science and the rational, leading the way to the Enlightenment and the modern world as we know it. It is a work of philosophy but also of history, following the lives of some of the most significant figures from the period. Shelley Davidow is the author of ‘Whisperings in the Blood’, a memoir in which immigrant voyages, repeated from one generation to the next, form the basis of an extraordinary story that explores the heartache and emotional legacies created by those who leave their homelands forever. It tells the story of her grandfather, Jacob Frank, who leaves his village in Lithuania to sail to America, of her mother, leaving America to go to South Africa, and her own voyage repeating these and other journeys before settling in Australia. In the Garden with Brownie
Koala tree forest springs up in Beerwah
Time to plant Ixia If you’re not familiar with Ixia … you’re missing out. These are spring and summer flowering bulbs (to be technical, it’s a corm) that actually do well in our climate. Originating from the Cape region of South Africa, Ixia (also known known as corn lilies or wand flowers) can be planted now to give you a colourful show. They develop grass-like leaves, sprouting tall slender stems which bear starry flowers in a wide variety of colours and shades. Although where they come from experiences a warm dry summer, they seem to tolerate our milder winter and wetter summer. But they must have good drainage, so plant them in a raised garden bed or in pots. They do best if not located in the hot direct sun, so part shade is perfect. Too much shade and the flowers will close up and not stay open all day. The flowers are simple six-petalled and star-shaped. There are many cultivars, which are often brightly coloured or may be pale with brighter markings. They also occur in some unusual shades, such as pale blue-green. Like other bulbs and corms, you plant them so that the top of the corm is buried to the same depth as the thickness of the corm. So if the corm is 20mm thick, the top of the corm should be 20mm below the surface. And make sure you get the top and bottom the right way round … they don’t respond well to being planted upside down. They also look best if grown clumped together rather than spaced too far apart. You can use them to fill in gaps between shrubs or in corner spots or as an edging. Water them regularly as they grow and feed with a soluble fertiliser suitable for flowering bulbs. Stop watering as the flowers finish. This allows the foliage to die back and the corm to retreat into dormancy. Once the foliage has died back, you can lift the corms and store them in a cool dry spot. Next season, you can separate the small cormlets to grow them on as future flowering stock. They won’t flower the first year, so separate them into a ‘nursery’ spot where they can just grow and put energy back into their developing corm for their first year. After that, they may be ready to flower – although it can be in their third year that the cormlets will bloom.

Over the last two weekends, the Glasshouse Mountains Advancement Network (GMAN) and a band of willing volunteers have been planting up a storm in an unused Council park off Pinelands Drive, Beerwah. The aim is to establish a koala food tree plantation where branches can be harvested to feed sick, injured and orphaned koalas while they are in care. The project was a collaboration between GMAN and Sunshine Coast Council. Over 500 seedlings were planted, mulched, watered and protected with tree screen guards. Well done Cliff Schnick (project coordinator), GMAN and the community who came to help. We’re sure that the rescued koalas will thank you when they’ve recovered and are released back into the wild.
What's in your backyard? Ted Prickett of Peachester keeps a keen eye out for the wildlife that visit his backyard. Recently, Ted's garden was invaded by a mob of Rainbow Lorikeets. Until then Ted said he have seen two or three at the most. "They initially came to feast on the many flowering Elaeocarpus grandis," he said. "However, there was a hostile takeover of the feeder from the White Headed Pigeons that normally dominate the feeder.”

View Club
Contributed by Janet Kitchin The Glasshouse Country View club meets on the first Wednesday each month for an outing and on the third Wednesday of the month for lunch at the Glass House Mountains Sports Club. Our outing for this month was a game of boules with lots of laughter and fun at the park adjoining the Glass House Mountains Visitor Information Centre. Pat Paddick and Gillian Winton (pictured) played in the finals of the boules, with Pat taking out the competition and winning an Aboriginal art wine holder. Our next lunch meeting is on March 15 and our speaker will be a representative of the Sunshine Coast U3A which should be very interesting. Our club welcomes new members. Any ladies who would like to join our club or come along to one of our lunches or outings would be most welcome. We carpool for our outings, so transport need not be a problem. Lynda on 5494 7875 or Maree on 5494 6956 would be pleased to give you any further information.
To ensure all community notices can be printed each month please keep your contributions to a maximum of 100 words. GLASSHOUSE COUNTRY

Pastor Kathie Eadie_ Glasshouse Community Church Do you believe that God loves you? Not the person sitting opposite you, not the Church, not the whole world, but you as an individual? So often I talk to individuals that say, "I believe that God loves others but I can’t believe that God loves me." Or they know that on one level Jesus loves them because they have learnt to sing the song, 'Jesus Loves Me this I Know' – but they have been unable to really accept this message of love in their heart. They continue to strive for God's acceptance rather than recognising their state as a beloved child of God. The depth of God's love for you is immeasurable. The lengths that He went to to have a relationship with you are incredible. God wasn't looking for a slave but a son. One of my favourite verses is Jeremiah 31:3 which says, "I have loved you my people with an everlasting love.

C
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself." This is God's love for you. It is everlasting and unfailing. There is nothing that you can do to stop God loving you or make Him love you less and it goes on and on and on. One of the closest comparisons that we have for God's love is that of a parent for their children, but even this doesn't compare. God's love for you is stronger than that of the best parent for their child. God knows everything about you and He loves you. You don't need to strive to earn His love; you don't need to doubt whether He can love you. No matter what you have done God loves you.

Sport Glasshouse Bowls Club
Contributed by David Hayes Wednesday, March 8: Ladies jackpot. The winners of the day were the team with the lowest winning margin. Well done to Brian Saunders, David Hayes and Chris Freshwater who had a + 6 margin. Runners up were Doug Sweedman, Vic Muscat and Joy Reason with + 11. Lucky draw went to R Myles, Noel Floyd and F Marki. The jackpot was + 2 so as there were no winners. Next month we will jackpot to $450.00. Get your teams in early. Thursday, March 9: Winners of the day with a score of 2 wins + 44 were Clive Sinton and Kevin Beasley. Runners up with a score of 24 in the second game were Robi Dean and Doug Sweedman. Lucky draw went to Jack Timm and John McSwain. Saturday, March 11: Hinterland Local League Round 6, Ladies 9.00am, Glasshouse 1 vs Woombye at home. Both the pairs and triples teams got up for Glasshouse to have an outright win which should see them stay on the top of the table. Glasshouse 2 played away against Nambour Heights. Unfortunately both the ladies pairs and triples had a loss coming up against a strong Nambour team. Next week’s game is at home to Woombye. Hinterland Men played at home against Woombye at 9.00am. It was great to see the men have their first outright win of the season with the 3 bowl pairs, 2 bowls triples and fours teams getting up to win 3 rinks to 1. Well done to everyone. Next week’s game is away to Palmwoods. Premier 7s Division 1 at home against Caloundra. Our teams put up a top effort with the fours having a win. With both the pairs and singles narrowly going down, we lost 2 rinks to 1 last week. Next Saturday home to Tewantin Noosa. Premier 7s Division 3 played at home against Chermside Men. Needing to win to keep their finals hopes alive things were looking good when the fours team had a win. With the pairs and singles going down we lost the day 2 rinks to 1. Next week’s games are at home to Bramble Bay. Kerry Capern Day is this Sunday, March 19 and as it stands we nearly have 16 teams. We could still do with a few more players and reserves in case of any last minute changes. Please be at the club no later than 8.30am. The cost will be $30.00 per person. This day is proudly sponsored by Bill and Lorelle Tumbridge. Come along for a couple games of bowls and have a beer in memory of Kerry. Please be aware there will be no bowls coaching this Sunday morning.
Maleny Social Badminton Social Badminton is played every Monday night at Maleny High School Hall from 6.45pm to 8.30pm. All games are doubles. Racquets and tuition is provided. A small fee is payable for the night. For further information, contact Alice on 5494 9685. 34

Swimming champion
Contributed by Michelle Lenz Mooloolah State School has recently celebrated the success of one of its own students qualifying for ‘state’ swimming. Tamsyn Douglas of Year 6, who is a Sports Captain, will shortly be off to compete with the rest of the state’s best in Brisbane, proudly representing our school. Tamsyn has gone from strength to strength in her swimming and has always won age champion at the school’s swimming carnivals. She has also won Age Champion at district level three times and has placed in regional swim meets before. This year she has qualified at regionals to compete in four events at the State Championships. These events are 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle. Mooloolah State School and community is extremely proud of Tamsyn and her efforts and wish her all the best for her coming events at the state level. We may not be there in body, but in spirit we will be cheering her on and wishing her luck. Go Tamsyn!!

Beerwah Ladies Golf Club
Contributed by Brenda Briese I'm finding it difficult to not mention the weather at present, as it is the subject on everyone's lips. The dry of course, has a very large impact on golf courses, especially when we have limited water supply. However at this stage there's no panic, just hope it's sooner rather than later. Anyway, to the results. Saturday, March 4: This was our Saturday Monthly Medal, with a small field of 22 players including visitors from Bribie Island and Tin Can Bay. The winner was Beth Abraham 72 nett OCB and the runner up was Michelle Leahy (Tin Can Bay) 72 and the winner gross was Sonia Kenway 81. NTPs: No (2) Lea Garner, (5) and (16) Jo Malone, (18) Margaret Zonca. Putting Karen Kemp 26 putts. BRD went to 74 nett. Beerwah Bulldogs Senior Division - 2016 season review and 2017 preview
Mark Brandon, Head Coach Beerwah Bulldogs Senior Division 2 team aim to go one better in 2017. After falling agonisingly close at the last hurdle in the 2016 Grand Final in a narrow 22-18 loss to Kawana, the squad has put in a rugged pre-season, which started in mid November. With a large squad this season, team selection is going to be very hard. The first round looms up this Saturday, March 18, when we take on an improved Bribie Island at the Stanley Rivers complex at Woodford – kick off is at 3.00pm. The team first had a pre-season trial against Stanley Rivers with a 52-0 win over the newcomers to this year’s competition. A final trial against a strong Maroochydore this last Saturday resulted in a 32-4 win. 2016 was an extremely successful year for the team across the board, winning the minor premiership along the way, as well as three major individual honours. Daniel (DK) Kidd was awarded the Player of the Year from over 320 players in the 16 team competition. Nathan Robards won the top try scoring trophy, scoring an incredible 46 tries in 22 games. Taoho Kake won the top points scoring trophy amassing 240 points for season 2016. The team has seen the retirement of their long serving captain Adam Grice who had taken the team to three consecutive grand finals – the 2014 and 2015 C Grade premierships and the Division 2 Grand Final last year. The newly appointed captain for this year is Daniel Kidd who was vice captain last year. DK brings many qualities to the team and club this year, mainly with his passion and loyalty for his beloved Doggies club. Beyond that his skill, ruggedness, and his leadership and never give up attitude inspires his team mates to push through the tough parts of the each game and the pointy end of the season. His understudy and vicecaptain is Jake Grice, who is looking for a big season in the no 6 jersey. Hopefully we can make our town, club, and supporters proud in 2017 and bring home a premiership that just eluded the team last year in what will be a very even competition, which has 18 teams, broken up into a top 12 and a bottom 6 competition.
Range Croquet Club Contributed by Neil Lovett
Sunday’s more benign weather brought a good turnout. Newcomer Wendy Whitby tried her luck at Golf Croquet against Donna Manning and Neil Lovett. Wendy was just beaten 7-6. In an Association doubles game Helen Andrews and Nick Cram also won narrowly against Sarah Widin and Ken Barker 10-9. On Tuesday we entertained a group from the Blackall Range Care Group, with eight taking on Golf Croquet. Several remarkably good shots were played by carers and cared for. Thursday again gave us good weather, and with lawns freshly cut, playing conditions were good. Before regular club games Vince Carbery introduced Yve Clark and Carol Johnson to another form of mallet sport, Aussie Croquet, in which they played a 6-all draw. Vince then took on Ken in Association singles (good preparation for the rapidly upcoming Lochwood Shield season), winning 14-12. Bev Sockhill and Donna easily beat Nick and Neil 9-4. For information about playing times, joining, coaching or bookings ring Vince Carbery on 5494 2193 or Sarah Widin on 0417 640 704. www.gcnews.com.au
Sweet success in Bundaberg The San Taekwondo Players had a great day at the Bundaberg Open last weekend! Final results: 4 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze. Seven members from San Taekwondo competed and everyone showed our great club spirit in their competition and support for their team members as well as outstanding sportsmanship. Charlie Bidgood and West Skerman were great in their first competition. Overcoming the nerves, they both settled into their fights well. Charlie was up first against a more experienced player but lost in a close contest and finished with a Bronze medal. West won his first fight convincingly and fought well in the final but just missed the win, finishing with Silver. Myles Owen was outstanding in his first fight and landed a number of great shots while defending well. He then went on to win Gold in a really tough final by sudden death after the score was 0-0 at the end of regular time. Aaron Lerch stepped up to the black belt division, winning his first fight with a skilful performance. He then had a tough encounter and fought strongly in the final, losing by only a few points to finish with Silver. Emma Hall won two tough fights in her red belt division. All players in the division were experienced and she had to work hard, executing the skills from coach Cameron well and she finished with Gold. Christine Mortimer showed her fitness, strength and skill, winning her competition after three really strong rounds where she scored several head kicks to win Gold. Joey Mortimer fought though three fights in a big division to claim the Gold. Joey showed great sportsmanship and skill in all fights and gave the team a few anxious moments in his come-frombehind victories. Well done to all players and coaches for the great team spirit and having such fun in your sport. For more information visit www.santkd.com or support the team by liking San Training Centre on Facebook.
Witta Tennis
Contributed by Pauline Fraley A great day's tennis was enjoyed by all when the Kawana Slammers were guests of the Witta Wagtails. There were many deuces and hard fought rallies with the Slammers finishing winners on the day. Thanks go to players Sonia, Claire, Eunice and Christine. Whistlers played at Witta, against Caloundra Hot Chillies. It was slightly windy, but that wind made lots of shots 'in' or 'out' by surprises. As always it was good tennis and we enjoyed on and off the court, and got the win which was a great effort. Score was 46-22 games, 7-1 sets. Team was Donna Kuskopf, Aki Lepper, Maree Hooley and thanks Kelly Gripske for filling in. The Wildcats were up against Caloundra Skylarks. It was very close all day with lots of hard hitting which flattened the balls by day’s end. So we’ll blame it on the balls. Final score was 4 sets each, 38-33 going Skylarks way. The team was Pauline Fraley, Libby Howlett, Jenie Riding and Stacey English. Date claimer: Sunday, April 23, Witta Golf Challenge at Maleny Golf Club. Social tennis: Monday 8.00am and Saturday 1.00pm all welcome. Court bookings: 0437 295 501 or www.wittatennis.com.au

Secondly, Friday Night Bowls will commence on March 24 at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.

Just for Laughs
It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional
Giving something back A charity worker realized that their organisation never received a donation from the city's most successful lawyer. So a volunteer paid the lawyer a visit in his lavish office. The volunteer opened the meeting by saying, “Our research shows that even though your annual income is over two million dollars, you don't give a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give something back to your community?” The lawyer thinks for a minute and says, “First, did your research also show you that my mother is dying after a long painful illness, and she has huge medical bills that are far beyond her ability to pay?” Embarrassed, the rep mumbles, “Uh... No, I didn't know that.” “Secondly,” says the lawyer, “did it show that my
brother, a disabled Veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair and is unable to support his wife and six children?” The stricken rep begins to stammer an apology, but is cut off again. “Thirdly, did your research also show you that my sister's husband died in a dreadful car accident, leaving her penniless with a mortgage and three children, one of whom is disabled and another that has learning disabilities requiring an array of private tutors?” The humiliated rep, completely beaten, says, “I'm so sorry. I had no idea.” And the lawyer says, “So, if I didn't give any money to them, what makes you think I'd give any to you?” Hugh Jones, Beerwah

Week beginning 15/03/17 SAGITTARIUS November 23 - December 22 The pressure of this week, with the Moon moving through Scorpio into Sagittarius, says that you are likely to be feeling a bit disappointed until the weekend. This is probably because you have maybe overworked without expected rewards. Lively company brings you a happy weekend and makes you smile over lunches or dinners. CAPRICORN December 23 - January 19 There is a need for you to be tied to a group of friends and that claims your time and priority. This week you also have the ability to pick up on subliminal messages. This contributes greatly to understanding others’ culture. Be practical in your thinking and endeavour to make at least one day this week a quiet and restful day. AQUARIUS January 20 - February 19 Strong emotional currents start off this week and you may want to connect with a special trip or some kind of excursion. There are emotional currents that are interesting, coming from your professional arena. Don’t compare yourself with others when it comes to holdings and possessions. Good weekend feelings are on the way. PISCES February 20 - March 20 Fascinating journeys can be experienced, both in the dream state or perhaps in the physical realm by this weekend. With the Moon in Sagittarius it suggests that you are most likely up for an adventure, at least by Saturday. Lucky associations may be formed. Enjoy the weekend in some distant locale or entertaining friends who are visiting.

Your Stars with Edgar J. Winter - www.astroclairvoyant.com LEO July 23 - August 22 The week starts off with some struggles and dinner time disagreements are likely. Towards the end of the week progress gets retuned and any obstacles involving low esteem need to be done away with, perhaps this is by pampering yourself. Certainly, by the weekend, impulsive shopping sprees bring some happy encounters. VIRGO August 23 - September 22 You may pick up on some psychic or spellbinding vibes! As your intuition and gut feelings receive a boost the words “hyper perceptive” are a benefit to you. For three or four days this means you should turn off your Virgo Logic, and heed your instincts. The Sagittarius Moon over the weekend generates excitement with outings. LIBRA September 23 - October 22 Mid-week the Scorpio Moon sets your conscious thoughts from personal desires to financial ones. Look for the hidden reasons before moving forward with your finances. Make sure everyone’s on the same page before you sign or agree to anything. Take some down-time to rejuvenate your energies and it’s the perfect weekend! SCORPIO October 23 - November 22 With the Moon in your sign for the start of the week, there could be a meeting on your agenda and it could mean that a dream of some sort will show signs of coming true. Intellectual friends can renew your faith in your artistic abilities. The weekend sees your worries disappearing and you can be highly productive now.

ARIES March 21 - April 20 Make sure your head and your heart are aligned on a major decision. See if you can talk to someone with a highly tuned intuitive ability to sort out any complex reasoning. The weekend brings you the power to plough through obstacles and end up feeling satisfied inside. It’s a happy time for weekend pleasures and the mood is upbeat. TAURUS April 21- May 22 You will have reason to be happy with relationships this week. Even changes are welcome. Now, do remember if someone wants to do you a favour, so much the better, so don’t say ‘no’. See if you can lend support to a friend who is burdened with responsibility. A buoyant Sagittarius Moon for the weekend encourages adventures. GEMINI May 23 - June 21 The week is going to see you looking for deep answers and perhaps testing out your psychic powers, rather than your logical senses. The weekend sees charming personalities around you and having enjoyable enthusiastic friends, it looks like it is going to be a fun Saturday and Sunday. See if you can have some great dinners. CANCER June 22 - July 22 Try to deal calmly with static over forward thinking plans. The planets indicate heated emotional clashes. These can be made worse by stubbornly digging in to old routines. Your intuition is stronger by the weekend and you need not give into fear or worry if presented with a job, duty, or obligation that seems too onerous now.
