KESTREL ALUMINIUM SYSTEMS REACHES NEW HEIGHTS WITH 50CW CURTAIN WALL LAUNCH

Kestrel Aluminium Systems is proud to announce the launch of its new 50CW curtain wall system. Designed for all building types from ground floor to high rise projects, this system marks Kestrel’s expansion into the wider curtain wall market, offering a high-performance and cost-effective solution for aluminium fabricators across the UK.

Engineered to deliver outstanding performance, the 50CW system has been rigorously tested in accordance with BS EN 13830. This ensures exceptional resistance to wind, water, and air infiltration, while providing high thermal properties as low as Uf 0.88 W/m2K.

The transom-to-transom façade design significantly reduces material waste, as fabricators can use the same profile for both mullions and transoms. A single, universal glazing rebate gasket, used on both mullion and transom, simplifies stock management and installation.

Innovation of the gasket design provides any number of drainage levels for maximum design freedom and maintains the overlap drainage principle at all joints. Combined with the flex injection assembly process, consistent and reliable sealing of these connections is ensured. This reduces fabrication time and optimises performance in demanding commercial applications.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with Kestrel’s existing product range, the new curtain wall system complements the company’s 75mm window and ground floor treatments, as well as its commercial door systems. This provides a visually consistent and practical solution for complete façade projects.

“We are delighted to introduce the 50CW, our latest, advanced curtain wall system,” said Crispin Jedrzejewski, Head of Technical & Design at Kestrel Aluminium Systems. “Our approach focuses on delivering performance-driven, easy-tofabricate solutions that meet the evolving needs of the UK construction market. The 50CW offers fabricators a robust, efficient, and high-quality system that delivers flexibility and longevity.”

• Elegant, modern flush

• Suites with the TriSYS® Modern framing system

• PAS 24 compliant

• 10 year warranty

GUARDIAN BUILDING SYSTEMS NOW TRUSTMARK SCHEME PROVIDER

Home improvement solutions provider, Guardian Building Systems, has achieved TrustMark Scheme Provider status, enabling it to boost the profile of its Certified Installers and demonstrate its commitment to ensuring quality at every stage.

TrustMark is the only UK Government endorsed quality scheme for work in and around the home. As a TrustMark Scheme Provider, Guardian Building Systems has committed to meeting and maintaining the operating requirements set out by the quality scheme, enabling members of its Certified Installer Network who comply with the required standards of technical competence, trading practices, and customer service to become TrustMark Registered Businesses.

Ross Darcy, Director of Guardian Building Systems explains:

“Independent verifications of quality and professionalism are crucial in the home improvement market, giving customers peace of mind that they are putting their trust in the right people. Becoming a TrustMark Scheme Provider is a crucial development in how we as a business not only support the Certified Installers of our Warm Roof system, but also driveup standards across the industry. We are delighted to be part of the Scheme, and we are now looking to expand the work covered for our Certified Installers under TrustMark membership.”

Simon Ayers MBE, CEO of TrustMark added:

“We are delighted to welcome Guardian Building Systems as a TrustMark Scheme Provider focussed on continuing to driveup the standard of work across the industry and improve the protection offered to homeowners. We look forward to working with Guardian Building Systems and helping to promote its certified installers to homeowners across the UK.”

CARL F GROUPCO SOUNDS THE ALARM ON PART F COMPLIANCE

Owen Coop, CEO of leading independent hardware supplier Carl F Groupco, has sounded the alarm on using disclaimers to avoid installing trickle vents as a means of complying with Part F of Building Regulations.

Owen says: “A recent report from RISA, which inspects window and door installations for compliance with Building Regulations and FENSA requirements, notes instances of signed disclaimers being provided as a means of avoiding fitting trickle vents. But it’s very clear that these disclaimers are not valid. Installations will be non-compliant and installers put their businesses at real risk if they use them.”

Owen cites guidance issued by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities when the regulations came into force.

“The guidance explicitly stated that disclaimers and indemnities would not cover installers. It said: ‘A disclaimer signed by the homeowner stating that they do not wish to have background ventilators or that they will be installed in future is not a suitable way of complying with the Building Regulations. Work must comply with the Building Regulations and competent person schemes must monitor their registrants and take action against any registrant who is found to have carried out non-compliant work. Purchasing an indemnity policy is also not a suitable alternative to meeting the requirements of the Building Regulations in full.’”

The research from RISA finds that over a quarter of inspection failures are due to non-compliance with Document F, which suggests the regulations are taking a while to bed in.

NEW NON-CROP WINDOW SHOOTBOLT FROM VBH

Hardware expert VBH has further expanded its range of locking systems for outward opening casement windows with the introduction of the greenteQ Invicta Non-Crop shootbolt.

The product joins the original Invicta shootbolt in a greenteQ casement lock line up that now includes eight options.

As the name suggests, Invicta Non-Crop allows the fabricator to simply drop the shootbolt extensions into place within the window sash without having to measure/mark and cut them to length.

A strong steel cover plate then secures the extensions into place, ensuring a solid connection to the gearbox.

VBH Marketing Manager Gary Gleeson says, “The non-crop method massively speeds up the fitting time against standard shootbolts, is less messy, and means that the fabricator has no steel offcuts to dispose of.”

The system consists of a gearbox, in a choice of industry standard 20 or 22mm backsets, and a series of extensions to cover sash sizes up to 1560mm.

VBH advise that Invicta is suitable for windows where a high security locking system is required and is compatible with the most popular PVCu and aluminium window systems.

Once fitted, security is provided by adjustable mushroom cams on the gearbox and extensions, and steel shootbolts that have two settings to allow penetration of the profile if desired.

greenteQ Invicta Non-Crop is approved for use on Q-secure installations. Q-secure is VBH’s homeowner security guarantee scheme, which promises to pay the homeowner up to £9000 in compensation if a break in is successfully achieved due to hardware failure.

Nationwide fabricator Shelforce has boosted its production capacity by adding three new machines from leading machinery specialist Haffner. This strategic investment enables the company to meet the surging demand for its products, particularly in local authority and commercial contracts, ensuring greater efficiency and productivity.

Following careful market research, Shelforce selected Haffner as its machinery partner. Howard Trotter, Business Manager at Shelforce, said: “We evaluated multiple providers based on key factors such as machinery capabilities, service support and availability of parts. Haffner emerged as the clear leader, not only for the impressive capabilities of its machinery but also for its consultative approach, which proved invaluable in guiding us towards the best investment for our specific needs.”

The company has invested in cutting-edge automation with three advanced machines to enhance efficiency and manufacturing precision. The SBA-4 Profile Machining Centre fully automates the cutting and machining of PVC-U profiles, streamlining production with minimal manual intervention. Howard Trotter highlights the broader impact: “Not only have we significantly increased production, but we’ve also enhanced overall factory efficiency and staff productivity. The SBA-4’s automation of cutting and machining processes means we now require just one operator, streamlining workflow and optimising output.”

Leading trade fabricator Modplan has introduced a new QR code labelling system across all its window and door frames, providing instant, full traceability for installers and streamlining onsite processes.

By simply scanning the QR code with a mobile device, installers can instantly access essential product details, including the CE/UKCA mark, the U-Value certificate to the size and specification, including the glass, finish and hardware.

Liam Isaac, Head of Sales & Marketing at Modplan, said: “Installation sites are fast-paced environments where keeping track of paperwork can be a challenge. Our QR code system eliminates that hassle—installers just scan the code and get all the information they need in seconds. No mix-ups, no delays—just efficiency.”

STELLAR ALUMINIUM ACHIEVES QUALICOAT SEASIDE SPECIFICATION

Stellar Aluminium has achieved the QUALICOAT Seaside specification, an even more demanding standard than the traditional QUALICOAT award. As such, it joins an exclusive group of fewer than 20 UK companies that hold this prestigious mark of quality.

Phil Parry, Technical Director at Epwin Window Systems, said: “Quality has always been a watchword for Stellar Aluminium, so we’ve always worked to the Seaside specification. The commitment to the higher standard means the system is increasingly being specified in coastal locations, so we’ve formalised the standard to give our customers an even stronger competitive differentiator.”

The QUALICOAT Seaside specification is the most robust specification readily available in the UK and Ireland. As well as specifying minimum etch requirements within the pretreatment process for enhanced coastal applications, it also includes regular finished powder coated surface laboratory tests for filiform corrosion resistance, something which BS EN 12206-1 (coating of aluminium and aluminium alloys for architectural purposes) does not require.

The award of the QUALICOAT Seaside specification reflects Stellar Aluminium’s commitment to the quality of the finish on the system. For example, the system is rolled after it is painted to remove the possibility of overspray issues. Every product is inspected before it leaves the facility, so quality control is exceptional.

Phil commented: “Every aspect of Stellar Aluminium is designed to set a new standard for the industry, and quality is no exception.”

The QUALICOAT Seaside specification is the latest addition to a long list of benefits of Stellar Aluminium.

It’s a whole house aluminium window and solution that offers slim sightlines and superior aesthetics making it a popular choice across all market sectors. It’s also capable of meeting and exceeding the requirements of Part L and Part Q of Building Regulations across the entire range as standard.

The system is faster to fabricate and is quicker and easier to install too. It uses knock-in pre-gasketed glazing beads, which speed up the installation process and leave a neater gasket line to further enhance the visual appearance.
