Oltre a offrire una panoramica sulle fonti di ispirazione delle collezioni, la prima edizione di Diary contiene una selezione dei progetti che meglio sono riusciti a esprimere lo spirito e l’eleganza dei soggetti Glamora.

Alcuni di questi sono accompagnati da interviste dedicate ai progettisti e al loro lavoro, con un focus particolare sulla scelta e l’impiego delle superfici in base a esigenze strutturali ed estetiche.

GLAMORA STORIES DIARY

Since 2010, Glamora has been offering tailor-made solutions for decorating architectural surfaces with wallcoverings of contemporary design. Thanks to the research it carries out on innovative technologies and fine materials, the company offers a large variety of themed proposals, inspired by diverse styles, which meet the needs of the residential, commercial, hospitality and healthcare sectors.

With Diary, Glamora offers a new way of suggesting and devising solutions, in both paper and digital form, through the website glamora.it.

A special editorial project that enables professionals to enter the Glamora universe, providing news, detailed information, and examples in the form of specific contents.

In addition to offering an overview of the sources of inspiration for the collections, the first edition of Diary contains a selection of the design projects that have successfully expressed the spirit and elegance of the Glamora patterns with maximum effect.

Some of these are accompanied by interviews with the designers, focusing on their work, and in particular on their choice and use of surfaces based on the structural and aesthetic requirements of the project in hand.

Thanks to its partnerships with architects and design studios from all over the world, Glamora continues to grow and evolve, always forging professional relationships and offering its know-how to continue creating new designs.

Ospitato in un antico convento sull’isola veneziana da cui prende il nome, Hotel Indigo Venice – Sant’Elena combina il carattere storico del luogo a un design moderno, costruendo un racconto che si ricollega all’unicità dell’ambiente circostante.

Hosted in an ancient convent on the Venetian island from which it takes its name, Hotel Indigo Venice - Sant’Elena combines the historical character of its location with a modern design, building a story that relates to the uniqueness of the surrounding environment.

COME SI È SVILUPPATO IL PROGETTO DELL’HOTEL INDIGO VENICE – SANT’ELENA?

Volevamo creare un racconto legato al luogo, alla sua storia e al legame con la città di Venezia.

Arrivando sull’Isola di Sant’Elena, con i suoi abbondanti pini marittimi e i giardini della Biennale, si è immediatamente colpiti dalla tranquillità di questa zona.

L’ingresso dell’hotel è solo l’inizio di una storia che collega la reception, il bar e il ristorante con il giardino interno, dove viene ricondotto lo sguardo grazie alle nuove portefinestre. Queste sono state aggiunte dopo che l’architetto Giallombardo, dello studio SGA, scoprì la presenza un’antica apertura su questo aspetto del palazzo. È stato un intervento essenziale per definire la linea visiva verso il giardino e riempire l’area del ristorante con la luce naturale.

QUALI SONO STATE LE FONTI DI ISPIRAZIONE PER IL RESTYLING DELL’EDIFICIO?

Il look and feel trae ispirazione dalla storia e dalle leggende dell’isola di Sant’Elena. Il nome deriva dalla madre dell’imperatore Costantino, pertanto esiste un legame enfatico tra Venezia e la cultura bizantina. Inoltre, la città è famosa per i viaggi, le scoperte e gli scambi commerciali. Questa connessione con altre culture è la quintessenza di Venezia e può essere riconosciuta nell’archi-

tettura, nella tavolozza di colori caldi e nelle decorazioni: influenze orientali e accessori esposti sugli scaffali alti come ricordi di scoperte provenienti da terre lontane.

che si trova davanti all’hotel. È stata applicata dietro alle testate dei letti e incorniciata come un quadro, superando così il semplice ruolo di rivestimento murale.

CHE IMPORTANZA HA RICOPERTO LA SCELTA DELLE SUPERFICI?

AVETE DOVUTO FAR FRONTE A SPECIFICHE NECESSITÀ FUNZIONALI? DI CHE TIPO?

La nostra ricerca si è basata su tre temi: la storia di Sant’Elena, da cui abbiamo tratto il legame con Costantinopoli; la vicinanza con i giardini della Biennale e l’architettura eclettica di fine Ottocento; il tema dell’oasi verde, espresso dal giardino interno, uno spazio raro a Venezia. Le superfici riflettono questa idea di progetto legato al luogo e formano uno strato di dialogo con gli ospiti, generando curiosità e tessuto connettivo.

COME AVETE SCOPERTO GLAMORA? COSA VI HA COLPITO DI PIÙ DELL’AZIENDA?

Come molti altri prodotti, abbiamo trovato Glamora on line. L’azienda ha dimostrato flessibilità e studio tecnico qualificato.

QUALI CARTE DA PARATI GLAMORA SONO STATE UTILIZZATE ALL’INTERNO DEL PROGETTO? PER QUALE MOTIVO?

Principalmente è stata usata la grafica Mediterraneo, perché ricorda il parco di pini marittimi

L’azienda ci ha seguito nel progetto fino alle fasi di consegna finale, venendoci incontro con le richieste di modifica del design, scalandolo a seconda delle nostre esigenze.

IN CHE MODO SI RELAZIONANO AL RESTO DELLA STRUTTURA LE GRAFICHE NATURALI DEI RIVESTIMENTI?

Abbiamo creato un legame visivo tra l’ambiente circostante e i rivestimenti, costruendo un percorso che guidasse gli ospiti fin dall’arrivo in vaporetto, da San Marco. Percorrendo la Biennale si vedono gli alberi maturi dei giardini, poi si attraversa il parco di pini marittimi fino a raggiungere l’hotel dove, guardando l’ingresso, si intravvede il giardino interno. Arrivati in camera, si ritrovano queste immagini sui muri per concludere il percorso e ricordarsene.

We have connected the surrounding environment and the wallcoverings, building a path that guides the guests since their arrival by boat from San Marco.

HOW WAS THE PROJECT OF HOTEL INDIGO VENICE - SANT’ELENA DEVELOPED?

We wanted to create a story linked to the location, its history and its connection with the city of Venice. Arriving on the island of Sant’Elena, with its abundant maritime pines and the Biennale gardens, you are immediately struck by the tranquillity of this area.

The entrance to the hotel is only the beginning of a story that connects the reception, bar and restaurant with the internal garden, to where the gaze is drawn thanks to the new French doors.

These were added after Giallombardo, architect of SGA studio, discovered an ancient opening on this side of the building. It was an essential intervention for redefining the visual line towards the garden and filling the restaurant area with natural light.

WHAT INSPIRED THE RESTYLING OF THE BUILDING?

The look and feel of the building are inspired by the history and legends of Sant’Elena island, named after the Emperor Constantine’s mother.

This explains the emphatic tie between Venice and the Byzantine culture. In addition, the city is famous for travel, discoveries and commercial exchanges. This connection with other cultures

is Venice’s quintessence and can be recognised, architecturally speaking, in the warm colour palette and in the decorations: oriental influences and accessories are displayed on high shelves as memories of discoveries from distant lands.

The Mediterraneo graphic was mainly used because it resembles the maritime pine park which is in front of the hotel. It was applied behind the headboards and framed like a painting, thus going beyond its simple role of wallcovering.

HOW IMPORTANT WAS THE CHOICE OF SURFACES?

DID YOU HAVE TO TACKLE ANY SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL NEEDS? IF SO, WHAT KIND?

Our research was based on three themes: the story of Sant’Elena, from which we drew the link with Constantinople; the proximity of the location to the Biennale gardens and the eclectic architecture of the late nineteenth century; the topic of the green oasis, expressed by the internal garden, a rare space to find in Venice.

The surfaces reflect this idea of a project linked to its setting and form a layer of dialogue with the guests, generating curiosity and connective tissue.

The company assisted us during the project, right up to the final delivery stages, fulfilling our requests for design changes and scaling the product according to our needs.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER GLAMORA? WHAT IMPRESSED YOU MOST ABOUT THE COMPANY?

Like many other products, we found Glamora online. The company proved to be flexible with a well-qualified technical team.

HOW DO THE NATURAL GRAPHICS OF THE COVERINGS RELATE TO THE REST OF THE STRUCTURE?

We connected the surrounding environment and the wallcoverings, building a path that guides the guests from their arrival by boat in San Marco. Going through the Biennale, you can see the ancient trees of the gardens, then you cross the park of maritime pines to reach the hotel where, looking at the entrance, you catch a glimpse of the internal garden. Once inside the room, you are greeted by these images on the walls, which conclude the route and fix it in your memory.

Costantino Nivola Sand-Casting

Costantino Nivola was one of the artists involved in the design of the Olivetti showroom in New York, at the end of the 1950s. Nivola created a 23-metre long mural relief, using a technique of his own invention, sand-casting. This new form of artistic expression involved moulding a negative of the design into a sandy surface and then casting it in plaster or concrete. This technique resulted in bas-reliefs with a delightfully uneven texture.

The piece was rehoused in the University of Harvard’s Science Center in 1973 and depicts a series of semi-abstract beings, in which small human figures greet each other extravagantly.

Nivola’s mural was one of the sources of inspiration for Glamora’s Collection X. The textured design and combination of the expressiveness of sand-casting and the delicacy of the plastic arts characterise designs such as Sand, Afra, Silent and Pursuit, among others. The result is a collection of wallcoverings that affirm the refined and elegant aesthetic that Glamora is known for.

Realizzato all’inizio degli anni ’50, il progetto dello showroom Olivetti di New York vide la partecipazione di Costantino Nivola. L’artista realizzò un rilievo di 23 metri di lunghezza utilizzando una tecnica di sua invenzione, il sand-casting: nuova forma di espressione artistica che consisteva nel colare gesso o cemento su una superficie sabbiosa, dove era stata precedentemente modellata l’opera in negativo, ottenendo così dei bassorilievi dalla texture piacevolmente irregolare.

Ricollocato nello Science Center dell’Università di Harvard nel 1973, il rilievo rappresenta una serie di entità semi-astratte che, a loro volta, racchiudono in grembo piccole figure umane nell’atto di prodigarsi in ampi gesti di benvenuto.

L’opera di Nivola è stata una delle fonti di ispirazione della Collection X di Glamora. Soggetti come Sand, Afra, Silent e Pursuit, tra gli altri, sono contraddistinti da un design materico e dalla combinazione tra l’espressività del sand-casting e la sensibilità delle arti plastiche, conservando l’estetica ricercata e l’eleganza tipica dei rivestimenti dell’azienda.

Le carte, accostate al rovere e alle tonalità degli interni, contribuiscono a creare un racconto per superfici unico ed elegante.

The wallcoverings, set off by the oak floor and the shades of the interiors, help create surfaces with a unique and elegant charm.

Situata in via Saragozza, a Bologna, questa residenza privata è stata ristrutturata da Delisa Merli. Sottraendo tutto ciò che rompeva l’armonia degli spazi, andando così a restituire ampiezza e proporzione agli ambienti, l’interior designer ha saputo coniugare le esigenze del cliente alle possibilità offerte dalla struttura.

Located in Via Saragozza in Bologna, this private residence was renovated by Delisa Merli. By removing everything which upsets the harmony of the interior, and thus restoring space and proportion to the rooms, the architect was able to combine the customer’s needs with the possibilities offered by the structure.

Gli interni giocano con le diverse sfumature del blu e del grigio, combinate al pavimento in rovere antico e a quattro diverse carte da parati Glamora che contribuiscono a creare un racconto per superfici unico ed elegante. Mentre Jardin Des Plants, illuminata da una barra led incassata a pavimento, caratterizza l’ampia zona giorno, l’area relax della camera padronale è arricchita da Zen che, visibile dall’ingresso alla zona notte, attira l’attenzione sulla profondità.

The interior is painted in shades of blue and grey, combined with the antique oak floor and four different Glamora wallpapers which help to create a unique and elegant environment. Jardin Des Plantes, illuminated by a recessed LED bar on the floor characterises the large living area, while the relaxation area of the master bedroom is enriched by Zen, which is visible from the entrance to the sleeping area and draws attention to the depth.

The environment was designed and structured to showcase the company’s wide variety of wallcovering styles, by creating a series of customised settings, custom-designed to enhance the physical and aesthetic qualities of the individual patterns and materials.

Boconni Projects ha trasformato il basement di Meliá Plaza, prestigioso riferimento dell’hospitality nel cuore di Valencia, in una sofisticata sala per la colazione. Il progetto s’ispira all’idea di combinare uno stile di vita contemporaneo e cosmopolita alla necessità di rimettersi in contatto con la bellezza della natura.

Boconni Projects transformed the basement of Meliá Plaza, a prestigious hospitality reference located in the heart of Valencia, into a sophisticated breakfast room.

The concept drew inspiration from the idea of combining a contemporary and cosmopolitan lifestyle with the need to get in contact with the beauty of nature.

L’ispirazione è nata dal desiderio di creare l’illusione di immergersi in un giardino interno, pur trovandosi in un ambiente chiuso e privo di luce naturale.

COME SI È SVILUPPATO IL PROGETTO DELLA NUOVA SALA COLAZIONE DI MELIÁ PLAZA?

Il progetto è stato sviluppato su commissione dall’Hotel Meliá Plaza di Valencia. La sala per la colazione era situata nel basement della struttura, quindi abbiamo pensato a un concept che combinasse un’estetica contemporanea e cosmopolita alla necessità di rimettersi in contatto con la bellezza della natura.

QUALI SONO STATE LE FONTI DI ISPIRAZIONE?

L’ispirazione è nata dal desiderio di creare l’illusione di immergersi in un giardino interno, pur trovandosi in un ambiente chiuso e privo di luce naturale. Questo concept di partenza è stato poi amalgamato al resto del progetto, per cui avevamo previsto uno stampo moderno.

CHE IMPORTANZA HA RICOPERTO LA SCELTA DELLE SUPERFICI NELLA REALIZZAZIONE DEL PROGETTO?

Per dare la sensazione di trovarsi circondati dalla natura, abbiamo scelto di utilizzare una carta che inglobasse l’angolo buffet con il resto della sala attraverso un elemento comune di dialogo, il soffitto. Abbiamo selezionato Exotic per la semplicità della palette cromatica, che attraversa diverse sfumature di verde e grigio, e si abbina perfettamente al resto del progetto: l’eleganza del wallcovering Glamora viene richiamata da mobili, materiali e dall’illuminazione dei locali.

COME AVETE SCOPERTO GLAMORA? COSA VI HA COLPITO DI PIÙ DELL’AZIENDA?

Glamora è stata selezionata tra diverse aziende per merito dei suoi soggetti, estremamente apprezzati nel mondo del design, per l’utilizzo dei colori e, soprattutto, per la qualità dei materiali.

La carta doveva essere installata presso un hotel a quattro stelle, in un ambiente usato frequentemente dai clienti e dove la pulizia è essenziale.

La resistenza dei materiali è stata quindi un fattore determinante nella decisione e Glamora ha

molta esperienza nelle strutture hospitality.

LA CARTA DA PARATI È STATA APPLICATA SIA LUNGO LE PARETI DELLA STANZA, CONCAVE E CONVESSE, SIA A SOFFITTO. CHE TIPO DI NECESSITÀ HA COMPORTATO QUESTO PARTICOLARE IMPIEGO?

L’applicazione di una carta colorata e così ricca di motivi, sia sulle pareti che a soffitto, ha rappresentato un rischio a causa della superficie estesa che sarebbe andata a occupare. Temevamo soprattutto di caricare eccessivamente la stanza a livello visivo. Alla fine il risultato ottenuto è stato un successo, siamo riusciti a creare un’atmosfera avvolgente, ma senza risultare invadente.

We were inspired by the desire to create the illusion of being immersed in an indoor garden, despite being in a closed space with no natural light.

HOW WAS THE PROJECT FOR THE NEW BREAKFAST ROOM OF MELIร PLAZA DEVELOPED?

The project was commissioned by the Meliรก Plaza Hotel in Valencia. The breakfast room was located in the basement of the building, so we imagined a concept that would combine a contemporary, cosmopolitan look with the need to reconnect with the beauty of nature.

WHAT WERE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?

We were inspired by the desire to create the illusion of being immersed in an indoor garden, despite being in a closed space with no natural light. This basic concept was then amalgamated with the rest of the project, for which we had decided on a modern feel.

HOW IMPORTANT WAS THE CHOICE OF THE SURFACES IN THE PROJECT?

To create the sensation of finding oneself surrounded by nature, we chose to use a paper that would incorporate the buffet corner with the rest of the room, through a shared interacting element, the ceiling. We selected Exotic due to the simplicity of its colour palette, spanning various shades of green and grey, which is a perfect match for the rest of the design: the same elegance of the Glamora wallcovering is also found in the furniture, materials, and lighting of the spaces.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER GLAMORA? WHAT IMPRESSED YOU MOST ABOUT THE COMPANY?

Glamora was selected from various companies for its patterns, held in high regard in the world of design, its use of colour and above all, the quality of its materials. The paper was to be installed in a 4-star hotel, in a space used frequently by customers, where cleanliness is essential. The durability of the materials was therefore a determining factor in the decision, and Glamora

has a wealth of experience in hospitality structures.

THE WALLPAPER WAS INSTALLED BOTH ON THE WALLS OF THE ROOM, WHICH ARE BOTH CONCAVE AND CONVEX, AND ALSO ON THE CEILING. WHAT KIND OF REQUIREMENTS DID THIS PARTICULAR USE CREATE?

The installation of a wallpaper so brightly coloured and full of patterns on both the walls and the ceiling was a risk due to the large surface area it would cover. Our greatest worry was that we might cause a visual overload within the room. In the end, the result we obtained was a success.

We managed to create an enveloping atmosphere, without it feeling intrusive.

The Dogon People of Mali and African Art

All’interno della nuova Collection X confluiscono diverse fonti di ispirazione ed esperienze. Una di queste è un viaggio in Mali alla scoperta della popolazione Dogon, di codici estetici arcaici, primordiali e nuovi modi di vivere l’arte.

Tra i manufatti più interessanti vi sono le maschere, monumentali e meravigliose, ispirate alle fasi della cosmogonia e indossate dai danzatori durante le cerimonie animiste. Mentre l’impiego di elementi naturali come il legno e la terra restituisce un forte senso di matericità, colori forti quali rosso, giallo, bianco e nero, danno vita ad un universo vibrante ed emozionale. Questi riferimenti sono stati il punto di partenza nella progettazione di soggetti come Dogon, Cosmo, Tratto e Sienna, tra gli altri. Il loro design combina l’eleganza senza tempo e la raffinatezza dei wallcovering Glamora a grafiche che richiamano la sensazione della terra cruda e il dinamismo di una danza ancestrale.

The new Collection X is a blend of different sources of inspiration and a variety of experiences. One of these is a trip to Mali on the trail of the Dogon people, discovering archaic, primordial aesthetic codes and new ways of experiencing art.

Some of the most interesting objects are their masks, highly imaginative and monumental works of art inspired by the phases of the cosmogony and worn by dancers during the religious ceremonies.
