A Perfect Treat!
Taking inspiration from sweet treats for our sweetest month of the year February for our first issue of 2024, our Love Issue! Candy has sweetly seeped into the fashion world to influence hair, clothing designs and jewelry. Our model’s theme came from this candy craze having them pose with sugar-filled desserts, the colors mimic candied hues reminding our readers of their nostalgic sugar high youth! On page 84, we offer you Sweet Treats from Staff writer Karen Berliner and she also takes us into the world of Suite Treats when Traveling. This issue is a first for Gladys! Everyone on our Love List and all of our Dream Star & Gladys Girl Winners were entered into our Cover Star Search! Our team reviewed all of the incredible submissions and the beautiful Annamaria Thomas won out! She won her Model Contest back in November from votes from our readers and won a photo shoot and was entered into our Cover Star Search! Each model was given our Inspiration Board for the Love Issue for their shoot and the images of Annamaria embodied everything we were looking for! So now Annamaria has gone from Dream Star Model (check out more photos from her shoot starting on page 110) to being named our 2024 Love Issue Cover Girl! Congratulations Annamaria! Check out Sharon Stone’s other passion…painting with her beautiful artwork on page 22. We are excited to feature Bachelorette Charity Lawson as she hosted a bridal tea luncheon and you’ll want to see everyone who made it onto our 2024 LOVE List! Sharon Stone: Welcome To My Garden The East Coast Premiere of Sharon Stone’s Paintings at the C. Parker Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut
The C. Parker Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut presented the East Coast premiere of Sharon Stone’s paintings with the new exhibition Sharon Stone: Welcome To My Garden. “We were honored to present the highly anticipated East Coast debut of Sharon Stone’s powerful art, for our tenth anniversary season,” says Tiffany Benincasa, C. Parker Gallery’s owner and curator. “This new exhibition offered a never-before-seen panorama into Sharon Stone’s creative prowess. The artist invited viewers on a journey through the vibrant landscapes of her imagination, reflecting her inner world. A testament to Stone’s profound talents,” adds Benincasa. The gallery is located at 409 Greenwich Avenue, just a 40-minute train ride from New York City.

Since then, she paints every day, four to 17 hours per day. Stone is internationally recognized as a global cultural leader, her many honors include: the Women Making History Award from the National Women’s History Museum; the Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award; the Nobel Peace Summit Award
The gallery show featured 19 paintings by Stone, and is the first time her artworks were exhibited outside of Los Angeles. Her art is praised by collectors and art world luminaries, including Jerry Saltz (Senior Art Critic for New York Magazine and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism). Stone’s celebrated slide-shows of her paintings are taking Instagram by storm. “I created these works to understand the essence of pure creativity that comes from heartfelt truth, to let go of the noise, the judgements, and the pollution of our societal pulls,” says Sharon Stone. Her immense talents and acute powers of observation blossomed onto the painted medium. Stone’s ability to observe and interpret human behavior, and her capacity to turn human frailties into sources of strength, shine through in ways that are combative, conquering, and victorious. Her connection to nature is always visually present. “Color becomes a wavelength for me,” says Stone. “Being a colorist moves the directions of my paintings. Color speaks to me.” Stone has been painting her entire life. In her early years, her Aunt Vonne had a Master’s degree in painting and would create murals across the walls of the home where she lived as a child. Wow, I don’t know were to start? I’ve known Galina for at least two decades. We met through our Fashion world and work and since then we became best friends, or as we say sisters from another mister. Galina is a mom, a daughter, a wife, a designer, a friend, an entrepreneur, a charitable human being, a socialite, a world traveler, a dancer, a model, an influencer before there were influencers as she opens paths and connects people with a shining light. And all of this comes with love and no drama. She has opened her arms, her house and in a way adopted all of us. So one morning I was checking my emails and received an invitation to celebrate her birthday and what can I say I was not even awake but my reply was YES to anything from Galina. As the magical day approached, I was hair, make up and of course wardrobe ready to celebrate her life. The celebration took place at a wonderful venue called Republic in Sherman Oaks, Ca. An architectural masterpiece with elevated style which was not a surprise coming from Galina. She curated her Iconic Celebration from the venue, to the menu and wow the entertainment! It was a classy Gatsby theme and all the guests looked red carpet ready. We were greeted by models and champagne toasts, we took pictures and then we entered the salon. Of course there was caviar and that always gets my heart warm. The musical band was amazing! I danced the night away and the performers were out of this world. We love Galina and are so happy to be a part of such a magical moment. XOXO Jenny & the City

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START YOUR CAREER IN THE FRAGRANCE INDUSTRY? In 2020, amid the pandemic, I ventured into the fragrance industry. As an avid perfume enthusiast, I noticed a gap in the market for Colombian perfume brands. This realization sparked my interest, leading me to explore the potential in the Latin American perfume industry. Inspired by the concept of slow perfumery, I delved into extensive research, laying the foundation for NNT Lab. WHAT INSPIRED YOU? Scents are my muse, and this inspiration resonates throughout the creation of my brand. Each perfume I craft draws inspiration from the people, places, nature, fine art, and everything I hold dear. HOW IS A DAY IN YOUR LIFE? Embracing a sense of routine is a personal delight for me. In Bogotá, Colombia, my current residence and the home of our NNT Lab store, my mornings begin with an early wake-up, enjoying a green juice and a brief cardio session at the gym. A visit to the store follows, where I often bring my laptop to stay connected through email correspondence. While I hold a deep appreciation for routine, my frequent travels to participate in markets and bazaars keep me attuned to the fact that each day holds its own surprises. I welcome the unpredictable nature of life. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CITY AND WHY? Medellín, Colombia holds my heart. It’s where I grew up, a city brimming with inspiration and innovation. Over the last 5-8 years, it has evolved into a creative hub with abundant art and culture. It is the city where I learned to dream, it has undergone tremendous growth, and every corner resonates with inspiration. HOW DO YOU CREATE A PERFUME? Our journey begins in Grasse, the global perfumery capital on the French Riviera, where we source raw materials. The final products take shape in Colombia, crafted with meticulous detail by skilled hands. Collaborating with a ‘nez,’ a perfume specialist in France, every aspect – from creation to boxing – is handmade and artisanal, infused with pure love. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCENT? Selecting a favorite scent is challenging, but Santal Wood holds a special place in my heart. However, I love to switch it up– the beauty of perfumes lies in their versatility. Depending on mood, attire, or occasion, a different perfume can be the perfect accessory! DO YOU ALSO MAKE ROOM SCENTS OR JUST PERFUMES? Aislinn Ennis began her modeling career when she was 6 years old, getting into toy boxes and commercials with Hasbro and print with Family Fun, eventually getting into high fashion and runway at the age of 12. With appearances in Vogue, Vogue UK, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and many more magazines, her modeling and acting have taken her around the world with opportunities. Some of her favorite modeling experiences include walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and walking in Paris Fashion Week. While continuing her modeling career, she has pursued a career in electrical and computer engineering. She is currently a sophomore at Cornell University’s School of Engineering, also pursuing a Business minor, and becoming involved in many aspects of modern technology, such as her involvements in many clubs including the lead of the Data Analytics of Cornell Hyperloop, developing sustainable transportation and researching groundbreaking technologies. Inspiring young women through empowerment and volunteer initiatives through the Society of Women in Engineering, she also wishes to give back to her community and bring confidence to girls interested in engineering. Giving talks to younger girls and providing guidance and raising monetary resources for underfunded schools and research programs, Aislinn hopes to give back to her community as well. FAVORITE EXPERIENCE AS A MODEL: Walking in New York Fashion Week has been my favorite experience by far. Coming from a small town going into one of the busiest cities in the world really opened my eyes. DREAM PROJECT: “Wonderkids” will always be a passion of mine. Since I was a baby I have always gone to Wonderland, which is a very special place in my town which every little girl and boy feels so special when they are there. Coming from an area where people really have to work for what they have I’ve always wanted to help. Wonderkids is a special project where I have donated and given out thousands of stuffed animals and articles of clothing. A 19-year-old Country Rock phenom and native of Gattman, Mississippi, Colin Stough has come a long way in a few short years – and with his debut EP Promiseland, the 19 Recordings/BMG artist is still just getting started. After learning to play guitar at 8 years old, Stough first pursued artistic dreams at 10, boldly trading childhood possessions for his first guitar at a local pawn shop – an instrument he still plays to this day. old weather season is here. There’s something uniquely satisfying about bundling up in cozy wool coats and staying warm while also looking stylish. However, as I savor the joy of layering, I can’t ignore the harsh reality that our skin faces during this time. As the temperature drops, so does the humidity, leaving our skin vulnerable to the elements. What’s more, the temptation to seek refuge indoors with the comforting warmth of central heating and indulgent hot showers or baths only compounds the issue. These seemingly harmless habits take a toll on our skin’s natural protective barrier, leaving our once radiant complexion susceptible to inflammation and irritation.

My primary objective in my skincare routine is to preserve a healthy skin barrier. I often advise my patients not to “get greedy,” which usually means being cautious with the use of active ingredients. Nothing can derail a glowing complexion more than a sudden outbreak of dermatitis. Keeping this in mind, the most crucial adjustment in your skincare routine should be your choice of moisturizer. Opt for a richer, thicker moisturizer that’s packed with ceramides, fatty acids, and humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients will provide the necessary support to your skin barrier, which is in greater need during this period. It’s important to remember that, in order to maintain that radiant appearance, exfoliation remains a vital step. However, you may need to adjust both the frequency and potency. For instance, if you were using a 2% salicylic acid, consider reducing it to 1%. If you typically use glycolic acid, think about switching to lactic acid, which is known for its gentler exfoliating properties. This more cautious approach will help you strike the right balance between skincare and skin health.

One active you should definitely retain in your skincare routine is your retinoid. BEFORE MARRIAGE is a great YouTube series that I’m very proud to be a part of. Art is really imitating my life since I’m recently engaged! Each episode takes on topics that should definitely be discussed before you and your partner take that union. I don’t know what marriage is yet, and in my series, we do take on conversations like kids, chores, and winning the lottery. But we didn’t talk about love, I guess that’s something that’s stated in the title and when you meet the characters Colin and Hannah (played JJ Nolan). But let me open up about my personal life and show you my fiancé Suzie. Because she is what love means to me…
Love is hard work.
It’s being completely vulnerable and open to situations and events you might not be ready for. But you have to dive in headfirst without hesitation because you know your partner is doing the same.
Love requires trust… trust in yourself, trust in your partner. That they will do right by you. And vise-versa.
Love is knowing that things are not always going to be easy. And when it’s hard, just know that it will get better. Love is sacrifice. You have to be somewhat selfless to love. It’s a blessing to give it your all.
I’ve never been the one to believe that love is a fairy tale. You can definitely build that when you have the right partner. And I have to say how lucky I am to have that in my life. But it takes a lot of self-work to get to a place of self-worth. So, when you give yourself up, there will be no questions on who you are giving yourself to. You will both be on the same page. Love takes you places that you never thought you could go. Places that you always wanted to see. I’m grateful to be in love and to be loved back by someone so genuine, kind, funny and thoughtful. And who would have known we met on an app. At the time, when we first met, I didn’t know one date was going to turn into so many dates, so many handholds, so many hugs, and so much laughter. We laugh about how we first swiped on each other and were like “yep”. Then we meet…things went well from there. It did take work. The pandemic, the jobs we lost, the flooding in our house. All those things didn’t break our bond. It only made us stronger. Love wasn’t something we tossed around lightly. It was something we both fought for in our lives. We both knew we deserved it. It takes things like the pandemicto know who your friends are. Or an old trip to your hometown to know how much you’ve grown. Love teaches you that you can’t take everyone with you. And that’s ok. All in all, Love is a great feeling to have. Especially when you’re ready for it. I’m glad I opened up because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be anywhere. You can’t get closer to a fairytale than this! Aaron and I met when we were in elementary school through a mutual friend. We crossed paths throughout our school years and later in life when we were both raising families. Neither of us realized the other was single until Aaron was visiting family and his sister in law mentioned that I was single. He wasted NO time reaching out, and decided the best opener was to schedule a headshot session with me. I offered him a Wednesday or Friday appointment, and he said “Friday works great, but you have to let me take you to dinner afterwards”. Without missing a beat, I replied “Well, how can I say no to that?”. Our date was a week away, but we couldn’t wait, and had 4 mini dates before our REAL date. We’ve only been apart a few days since then. He helped me moved into my new house that finished a few months after we started dating. Late one night, we came in from visiting friends and decided to sit by the fire and have some champagne to celebrate the new house. We toasted to the new house and then he dropped to his knee and pulled out the most amazing ring I’ve ever seen! He asked if I’d like to spend the rest of my life when him. “The whole theme of our wedding was elegant, vintage, and timeless. I wanted a wedding that felt very “pre-social media”. There weren’t any neon signs, hashtags, first looks, gimmicks, or TikTok dances haha. Not that there is anything wrong with ANY of that, but we really wanted (and we wanted our guests too) to feel as though they had all been transported back in time.

Jon and I created custom chandeliers made by handing out the vines we found in our woods. We had a really hard time finding the right chandeliers for inside the tent, everything was either really away from our esthetic or just not 100% right. So we got creative and made two 10ft chandeliers which we hung up inside the tent. It was incredible! They really were the perfect missing piece that helped blend the elegant, timeless look with the whimsical, storybook, ethereal vibe as well. It was truly the most magical day” Laura James Ecker -
We were married and hosted our wedding on our private property just outside of Nashville, TN. We actually saw the house for the first time the same weekend we got married, one year prior. We originally visited TN to find wedding venues, but instead stumbled upon and found the home of our dreams nestled on 12 incredible acres. We had a moment where we looked at each other, and said this is it….this is where we will say I do. The rest was history. On the property, there is this beautiful strip of forest. Jon and I had a vision to transform this space into the perfect whimsical journey for the guests to enter, upon their arrival. We (by hand) graveled the pathway ourselves (all 500 feet of it). It was actually really fun, and a great pre-wedding bonding experience! We have lots of great behind-thescenes videos and pictures that captured this whole process (which was a lot of hard and fun work)! For the guest seating chart, inside the forest, Jon built the most incredible wooden structure that we hung antique skeleton keys off of each had custom name tags and gold tassels. The name tags were vintage-inspired and handmade. They were stamped with each guest’s last name (each individual letter was stamped with ink one letter at a time). All of the keys were found over the course of the year, from various vintage and antique stores. We really wanted to do something different and something custom. Something that really felt special for each guest. The keys hung directly in front of the sunset, so they glistened beautifully as the sun started to set. One of the reasons we chose to incorporate the keys is because we wanted it to feel like they were receiving a symbolic “key to our home”. When the guests first entered the pathway, they were greeted with champagne. When they got to the end of the pathway, they were able to “find their key” and take some photos in the glass mirror that appeared to be floating in the forest under the massive nostalgic disco ball I’ve owned for many years. This pathway was very special because it was also where the wedding party walked through, and where I had my “final walk” with my dad before seeing Jon for the first time. Myself and my girls arrived at the ceremony about 15 minutes before we had to walk down the aisle via a really cool 1970’s vintage tour bus called, The Iron Man. It was a really nice way of traveling to the venue comfortably and having a moment of decompression before going out. I will never forget the feeling of pulling up and seeing from a distance everyone sitting in the ceremony chairs and the strings playing. Jon and I never wanted a first look so when we said goodnight to each other Friday night at 8 pm, we didn’t text or call each other until we saw each other the next day at the altar. It was one of the most surreal and powerful moments of our lives. Jon was dressed in a Tom Ford Suit, and I wore a custom couture Liz Martinez dress. I have been a fan of Liz since my days in college, where I would pin her dresses with the dream that maybe one day I could have the pleasure of seeing one in person. I visited the gorgeous bridal store, En Blanc, in Los Angeles in January of 2022 to try on some dresses. My matron of honor picked up a dress off the rack, held it up to me, and told me I needed to try this one on. From a first glance of it on the rack, I knew it was the dress. When I put it on, I felt like it was breathing. I felt like it was a moment in itself. I had never seen a wedding dress like that before and I knew it was the one. Liz gifted me the dress and I paired it with one of her incredible veils that was a gift from my parents. I really wanted a veil that had a blusher because it was important to me to stay true to the timeless look, and it completely elevated my dress. HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START YOUR CAREER IN FASHION? My career in fashion began 18 years ago during my college years while I was studying technology. This transition into fashion occurred when I secured a position as a stylist for TV shows. While working as a stylist for TV shows, I was exposed to the dynamic nature of the fashion industry, where trends change rapidly, and the demand for creativity and innovation is high. This experience has helped me develop a keen eye for detail. Moreover, my background in technology have played a significant role in shaping my approach to fashion. The integration of tech and fashion is increasingly important, with technological advancements influencing everything from design and manufacturing to marketing and retail. My tech background has provided me with a unique perspective and skill sets, allowing me to leverage technology in creative ways within the fashion industry. This was the beginning of my journey into becoming the Founder of a worldwide high-end womenswear brand - CRISTALLINI, where I can merge creativity with technological innovation in the world of fashion. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? My inspiration often comes from the world around me. Nature, art, history, and diverse cultures are inexhaustible sources of ideas. Each of these elements play a part in shaping the vision and direction of CRISTALLINI. HOW IS A DAY IN YOUR LIFE ? Starting with this year most of my time is spent in Los Angeles. Each day is a careful balance between the passion for design, managing the business, and my personal time, which allows me to recharge and stay connected to everything that truly matters. My days usually begin early, somewhere between 5 and 7 in the morning, because those moments of quiet time and sunrise are incredibly precious. This is the time when I either practice meditation and selfreflection sessions, setting the tone for the rest of the day and allowing me to connect to a space of inner peace before diving into the hectic rhythm of the day, or I communicate with the team and Atelier in Bucharest, Romania, managing and coordinating operational and creative matters. Later, minimum three times per week, I dedicate my time into maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle by going to the gym. Physical exercise is not just a way to keep my body in shape, but also an essential tool for maintaining mental clarity and focus. At the CRISTALLINI Store on Sunset Plaza my workday includes a variety of tasks, from strategic meetings with the team, to working with clients and developing new design concepts. At lunchtime, I usually go out and enjoy the LA sunny weather, whether iI have meetings with stylists, collaborators, or simple moments of silence to enjoy nature and breathe. In the evening, I like to explore the city, enjoy dinner on a captivating rooftop, or choose a more quiet and personal way to spend time - maybe reading a book, watching a movie or just relaxing. Every day is a combination of creativity, strategy, and personal moments of recharging, all to maintain a healthy balance for the relentless development of myself and my brand - CRISTALLINI.

WHO IS YOUR FASHION ICON? My fashion icon, without a doubt, is Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Her influence on the fashion industry is monumental and deeply resonates with my own design philosophy. Chanel was not just a designer; she was a visionary who revolutionised women’s fashion and played a pivotal role in shaping the modern understanding of elegance and style. One of Chanel’s most significant contributions was popularising trousers for women. This was a bold and progressive move at a time when trousers were considered exclusively masculine attire. By introducing trousers into women’s wardrobes, Chanel broke gender norms and provided women with a new form of comfort and freedom in their clothing choices. This shift marked a significant step towards modernity in women’s fashion, offering an alternative to the restrictive garments that had previously dominated women’s fashion. Moreover, Chanel’s role in liberating women from the corset is another testament to her pioneering spirit. The corset, long a symbol of the restrictive and often oppressive nature of women’s clothing, was abandoned in favor of more comfortable and practical designs under Chanel’s influence. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CITY AND WHY? I’s difficult to pinpoint just one, as several cities hold a special place in my heart for different reasons. I have a deep appreciation for Paris, which captivates me with its rich cultural and fashion history. The elegance and artistic heritage of Paris are unparalleled, and it’s a city that has significantly influenced the fashion industry, resonating deeply with my own journey in this field. New York City also holds a special significance for me. It was the first city in the United States that made me fall in love with this country. The energy, diversity, and relentless pace of New York are truly unique. It’s a city where creativity and ambition meet, making it a hub for fashion, art, and innovation. The vibrancy of New York is something that continually inspires and excites me. Additionally, I have a profound affection for many Italian cities. Italy’s rich cultural history, combined with its exquisite cuisine, makes it a country of immense charm and character. FIRST JOB: My first job was at Greenbrier Valley Theatre, the state professional theatre of West Virginia, and I am very fortunate to have been able to learn and grow as an artist from GVT. It is where I first fell in love with acting. CURRENTLY WORKING ON: I am currently working on writing and producing my own film projects, as well as exploring voiceover work. I recently got to attend the premiere for one of my films, which was shot in my home state of West Virginia. The film is called “Aquarium” and follows a couple at the end of their relationship, who have been holding onto each other because they’re afraid of what happens if they let go. It is a beautiful and deeply emotional story and one of my favorite projects to date. I play Kathy, along with my talented co-star, Steve Judy, who plays Noah. IF I HAD TO LIVE IN A WORLD FROM A MOVIE OR TV SHOW I WOULD CHOOSE… “American Horror Story” seems like an inviting place to hang out. Definitely kidding! I would have to say “La La Land,” because I really would love it if life could be a musical and strangers could come together to sing and dance choreographed numbers and then go about their business. Also, the main character’s hard work and determination as an actress actually pays off in the end, so that definitely resonates with me. THE PERSON I’VE BEEN MOST STARSTRUCK BY IS… When I worked at a restaurant on the Upper West Side of NYC, I waited on a lot of celebrities. I never had a problem talking to any of them, and boy do I have stories, but the one person I was too shy to talk to was Paul Simon. I wanted so badly to tell him how amazing he was and how he inspired me to be a songwriter but all I could say was “Do you want fries or salad with that?” 3 THINGS OR PEOPLE I LOVE ARE: 1. She has had a long love affair with hats that grew out of her upbringing among the corridas and traditions of Northern Mexico. Gladys’ journey began when she didn’t see any hats on the market that had the styling finesse and quality she was looking for and that motivated her to create her brand Gladys Tamez Millinery. Gladys goal was to create a true luxury heritage product not just a so called “luxury brand”. For her luxury is in the making. Her first collection was inspired by a dream she had where horses were galloping through space. This conceptual process that begins with a simple inspiration informs each collection. Art, sculpture and historical fashion continues to be the visual narrative that makes her designs original and exciting. Gladys first rule for her clients is that the hat should give and grow confidence. This imparting of individual confidence through design is at the heart of what keeps her engaged and passionate.

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU START DESIGNING HATS? - I’ve always had a connection with hats. As long as I can remember my dad was always wearing hats, I admired the elegance in his personal style. Hats have always been the perfect touch to any outfit, but I was in my honeymoon in Spain when my husband and I stumbled across these milliners who showcased the craftsmanship behind hat making and I fell in love with the process. I came back to the U.S and started to study millinery and perfecting my craft. In 2014 I started my line, Gladys Tamez Millinery, meaning my 10 year anniversary is about to come up and I’m so excited to present my new Collections which will reflect a decade of my designs and crafts WHAT INSPIRES YOU? - Different things inspire me, I try to find inspiration everywhere I go. I have a big collection of books from fashion, design, architecture, art, etc… I browse through them and sparks my creativity. I’m big on seeing things in front of me in printed form and still browse through magazine’s every month. Social Media is also a big source of inspiration to keep up with trends. HOW IS A DAY IN YOUR LIFE ? - I always start my day meditating and setting my intentions for the day. I love going on walks with my dogs in my nearest hiking trail, Griffith Park, so I can exercise a little first thing in the morning. I enjoy having breakfast with my husband and having time just the two of us before I start the madness of the work day. I arrive to my Studio every morning and go over the list of priorities for the day. It’s a small business ran by just me, so I always make sure to check in on every thing every day, I check on production and on shipping, then have back to back meetings with my team. Every day is different and there’s always a lot going on but I make sure to always stay on top of things. The Studio is also open to the public so my clients can come in for a look behind the process, and shop hats in person as well. I really enjoy the days I get to spend with my clients because I get to co design their dream hat with them. After work there’s always something new and cool happening in LA and I try to go out and support as many people as I can, if nothing is going on I enjoy making dinner with my husband and decompressing from the day.
Gladys Tamez Winter 2023 Collection was inspired by my travels to Paris, I called it French Kiss and it hs a variety of chain and pearl details. WHAT IS THE PROCESS IN CREATING A HAT? - Once I have an idea or inspiration behind what I want to do, I sketch it out and then get to working and play around with materials, etc… I work closely with my team of artisans to make sure every detail is as I envision it. All of my hats are 100% handmade, we start by choosing the material then molding it to whatever shape we want, we actually have a lot of behind the scenes videos on my Instagram @gladystamezmillinery showing the process because each hat is different. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HATS? - Fedoras, boleros, cowboys, bucket hats, caps, fascinators… There are many different types but the most common one is the classic fedora and in recent years the cowboy hat style has been making a comeback. WHO IS YOUR FASHION ICON? - Bianca Jagger, Jane Birkin, Bridget Bardot, Marianne Faithfull, just to name a few. I can’t pick just one! I’m very inspired by the Fashion Icons in the 70’s, which actually was the name of one of my first collections which drew inspiration from these women. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CITY AND WHY? - Paris has always been a special city for me, every time I go I come back inspired and renewed. Everything about it sparks my creativity, from going to Fashion Week and seeing all the new trends, to the museums, the architecture, Parisian fashion, and overall the whole city. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024? So many things! 24 has been my favorite number since I can remember, so I have a lot of hope for this new year. I’m looking forward to sharing my new movie Persona, a creative achievement that I‘m especially proud of, with fans that have been loyal for more than two decades. Persona is an intimate character study inside a thriller that’s an intense ride from go. It’s also the first time I’ve served as a Filmmaker. I optioned the script, worked with the writer, hired the crew, cast the project, styled, produced, and co-starred opposite the wonderful, Sophia Ali. So it’s a piece of my creative soul that I’m hopeful my existing fans will love while also branching out to new audiences. I’m almost done walking the 100 minute feature film through post-production stages like sound design and VFX with a tentative release date of Summer 2024. I imagine watching Persona in a theater with my mom and husband and an audience will be a highlight of 2024. And on the personal side, my daughter turns 2 in February. I get a crazy amount of joy watching her do anything new. So I‘m looking forward to 2024 being filled with a lot of firsts and a lot of joy. WHO INSPIRES YOU? The simplest answer is my mother. I know because so many of my stories and anecdotes start with, ‘my mom says’. My mother is fearlessly herself without apology. She’s loving and giving and capable and emotional and strong.

I was blessed to be raised by such an incredible woman. But honestly, I find so many women to be incredibly inspiring. Viola Davis is a triumph! Her talent on screen but also her vulnerability and kindness off screen are inspiring. RBG, Beyoncé, Shonda Rhymes, Mara Akil, are all women that have inspired me greatly. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? This is such an important question. And it’s important to redefine as we live and learn. I asked myself this when I moved to Los Angeles from Colorado at 17 years old. My answer then was that if I could pay my bills doing nothing but entertaining audiences, then I would have been a success. And that definition served me well for many years. But I have redefined it recently. Now success feels less like any external accomplishments and more like being able to find a feeling of peace at the end of the day. NAME THREE THINGS YOU LOVE. 1. My village is easily the thing I love most. My village consists of family and friends, and friends that are basically family. My reasons. 2. Expression; dance, poetry, music, movies, plays, passionate storytelling. 3. Nature WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? After sharing Persona with the world, I’ll be stepping back into the filmmaker role again in late 2024 with yet another female-driven feature. This time an action-adventure on an epic scale. So I’ll be in the gym. Or on the playground. Or in bed.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024? I’m looking forward to reading more poetry, making a new movie, and spending quality time with loved ones. WHO INSPIRES YOU? Pat Mitchell, Oprah Winfrey and Madonna. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? Do what you love and do it often. I also love to know that my work has touched another person. That makes me feel successful. NAME 3 THINGS YOU LOVE? Work. Boyfriend. Dog. Obviously not necessarily in that order.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024? I’m looking forward to the new series I have in development with a network. I am also excited to jump back into directing more now that the strike is over. WHO INSPIRES YOU? Melissa McCarthy because she is an entrepreneur and works on both sides of the camera creating and acting with her husband Ben Falcone whom I dream of taking a writing class with at The Groundlings someday! I hope to have a partner I can collaborate with as well. Another person who REALLY inspires me is Mindy Kaling. She also works on both sides of the camera and has paved the way for BIPOC women in in film and continues to inspire us to work hard towards achieving our dreams. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? For me success doesn’t mean flashy camera lights and red carpet events. It means I get to do what I love and that just so happens to pay my bills. And I get to do it over and over again. So right now I feel like I’m living the dream and if I die tomorrow I can easily say I have zero regrets. I always set higher goals once I achieve the goals I had previously set for myself. Right now since I have directed TV movies, my new goal is to get into directing episodic television. NAME 3 THINGS YOU LOVE? Traveling, making movies and it’s a tie between mango and dark chocolate! WHAT’S UP NEXT FOR YOU? I have to finish shooting my feature documentary as well as post production on the most expensive short film I have ever produced and directed, 100k grant received from Canadian government arts funds. We filmed it in October and it’s almost done with its post production work. I also have to write the script for a TV movie concept and I will start the active development for the series I have with a network. I know it sounds like a lot, but for a workaholic person with very little social life like me it’s just the right amount. 2024 is about to start with a bang for me already. Gladys LOVE Issue 2024 105

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024? Personally, I’m always looking forward to time with my family. My husband Franklin, our two boys, Benjamin & Jacob, and our family dog Dash love to spend time at our Lake House throughout the year and it’s always a welcome retreat. My latest professional venture introduces a new standard of service to both the Real Estate and Construction industries. We specialize in highend visual renderings of homes pre-construction, virtual staging, and offer VR and AR services in the realms of construction and design. WHO INSPIRES YOU? It might sound cliché, but my parents are a constant source of inspiration for me on various levels. They started with nothing when they left Belarus, and not only did they create an amazing life for themselves and our family, but their partnership is inspiring for my own relationship with my husband. HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS? Achieving success, for me, means going to bed each night with the satisfaction of knowing that I did my best in every aspect of my life—be it family, friendships, work, and more. This past year I got to explore Greece and this year I would love to go to Italy. It’s thrilling to visit new places, meet new people and get a vibe for a new culture. I would also love to travel for work this year! WHO INSPIRES YOU? I’ve always admired the queens of rom com, Rachel McAdams because of her heart and Kate Hudson because of her wit. Also Kristin Wigg because she’s hilarious and Viola Davis because she’s a master actress. I also love Oprah because of her wisdom. It was the Season to celebrate the Holidays recently and yes the 15 year Iconic Anniversary and Holiday edition for Gladys Magazine. The best place to be is Seven Seas Caviar Gourmet with the beautiful hostess with the mostess and classiest owner Narine. Seven Seas Caviar is just a magical place for every special occasion, located in Studio City, Ca. We all enjoyed the curated caviar pairings and made wonderful toasts with champagne and yes some of us did a toast with Neft vodka shots which is one of the best vodkas and my favorite. We had a caviar expert to guide us through the journey and needless to say familiar faces that are dearest to Gladys Magazine and of course Jenny and the City.
