Saiki City Children’s Art

Clay Stories:

Presenting a series of artworks created by young children from Saiki City, Japan. This annual exhibition is a Gladstone Saiki Sister City cultural exchange program.

Clay Stories is a significant survey exhibition of contemporary artworks in ceramics that have been created by both highly established and emerging Indigenous artists in remote parts of regional Australia. The exhibition presents pieces that are both sculptural and vessel-based, with each body of work representative of the artists’ connection to Country and as a strong medium for story-telling. This touring exhibition is an independent curatorial project developed by Sabbia Gallery, its exhibition curator Anna Grigson, the art centres and the Remote Communities Ceramic Network and supported by Visions of Australia and Artwork Transport.

Recovering the Past: A photographic exhibition by Ian Alderman

Recovering the Past is a unique photographic exhibition by London based artist Ian Alderman. This exhibition brings together two separate groups of men with origins a century apart, united through conflict. The first group is the men of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) who fought in Flanders in some of the worst battles of The Great War. The second group is the Belgian men who continue the ongoing bomb disposal efforts on the same former battlefields today. Inspired by Australian artistic and cultural icons, photographer Frank Hurley and artist Will Longstaff, this groundbreaking exhibition is a philosophical exploration of consequences of human conflict; of legacies that persist long after the guns fall silent.
