Christmas Street Party Celebrate the start of the festive season at Gladstone’s 5th annual Christmas Street Party. Explore the markets, get a bite to eat, be entertained by carollers and enjoy a variety of family friendly activities. Festival of Summer

Opening Festival

Through a culmination of adventure, music, art, sport and fashion, this week long event consists of activities to encourage local youth to enjoy our region. Festival of Summer is a new and exciting version of the SunFest event. For more information and to book, visit www.gladstone. qld.gov.au

Launch into Festival of Summer with the inaugural Opening Festival at the beach. Enjoy live music, something to eat, market stalls showcasing the designs and talents of local youth and a variety of activities including dual bungee, rock climbing and many other fun activities. The Opening Festival will provide an opportunity to see what the week long festival has to offer.

Festival of Summer Sounds Festival of Summer Sounds (FOSS) will signal the end of the week long festival. Australia Day Awards 2020 Each year Gladstone Regional Council hosts a combined citizenship and Australia Day Awards ceremony. The public event is Council’s major civic function for the year and is free for all residents to attend. The ceremony involves our region’s new Australians uniting for citizenship oath and affirmation with presentation of Australian Citizenship certificates from the Mayor. This is followed by acknowledgment of the Gladstone Region’s Australia Day Award nominees, announcement of category winners and presentation of trophies. Reef on Our Mind: The Great Barrier Reef in the Australian Psyche

The result of a three-year investigation by local artist Jan Ross-Manley into how the Reef has come to hold such a dear place in the hearts and minds of Australians. Telling the story through art, objects and memorabilia, the exhibition shows how the colourful Wonder of the World has become a national treasure, imprinted onto the very core of Aussie DNA. Supported by the Gladstone Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Gladstone Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. In The Field

A touring exhibition of recent works by artist, art educator and founder of Flying Arts Alliance, Mervyn Moriarty. Marking the extraordinary impact that Mervyn Moriarty and The Flying Arts School had in the Gladstone Region during the late 1970s and 1980s, the touring project is complemented by a locally curated showcase from the region’s artists, as well as works from private and public collections that demonstrate the impact of Moriarty’s legacy. Primary School Art Competition Calling for entries

An ever-growing art collection, featuring works by local primary school aged children. This competition encourages Gladstone Region students to think about an aspect of Australia they believe is important to them and put their creativity to work using pen, paint, collage or other media on A4 paper. The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Gladstone Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. Local arts and cultural groups and individuals are invited to apply for funding for their specific short-term projects, during two rounds each year, closing March and August.
