President's welcome
Welcome, The Gladstone Harbour Festival now in its 57th year. It has evolved from its’ humble beginnings in 1963, into the much-loved community celebration of our harbour city that it is today and, is recognised as one of the leading community festivals in Australia. Twelve months of planning will see the Harbour foreshore come alive with thousands of citizens and visitors alike, taking delight of the wide and varied range of quality entertainment and activities on offer, as the city awaits the arrival of this year’s fleet of yachts sail into our magnificent harbour in the 71st Brisbane to Gladstone Blue Water Classic Yacht Race . The continued success and longevity of this FREE festival is reliant on the continued generous support of our supporters (both financial & in-kind) please see their Logos on the adjacent page. We at GFEA on behalf of the community, thank each of these supporters, without them our festival would not happen. They are listed in the program, our website and nightly on the big screens. To stage an event like this is a mammoth task, and the work behind the scenes is never ending. The unsung heroes of the festival are the small band of volunteer committee members, who help plan and stage this annual event along with our dedicated staff Nicola and Tracey. They give up their time and holidays to carry out hundreds of tasks associated with coordinating and running the festival. Gladstone Ports Corporation’s Marina Parklands where you and your family will experience a magical Easter weekend filled with activities, street entertainers, arts and crafts, kid’s zone, live main stage entertainment and much more. Stay up to date with all that is happening with all the latest news about this year’s festival by visiting our website http://gladstonefestival.com/harbourfestival or follow us on Facebook which is being constantly updated. So why not join us over the Easter weekend and experience one of the most entertaining and enjoyable times of year. Have a happy and safe Easter and enjoy the festivities! Mayor's Welcome
Welcome to the 57th annual Gladstone Harbour Festival, one of the Gladstone Region’s greatest family attractions. As the many that have preceded this one, I have no doubt in my mind that the 2019 Festival will continue to provide great entertainment for the whole family. Living in a region filled with amazing events, I can’t play favourites, but if I had to choose, this one would find its way right to the top. Nestled on Queensland’s coastline, Gladstone offers the perfect waterfront getaway and Easter in Gladstone will serve up perfect weather, great food and plenty of events From the old family favourites such as the Great Raft Regatta, Street Parade and Talent Quest to fireworks, food and fun - there is truly something for everyone. Easter in Gladstone is a time of genuine excitement as both residents and visitors gather to attend not only the Gladstone Harbour Festival but also celebrate the 71st Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. The race will again be live streamed, and you can keep up to date through the Yacht Tracker function on the official race website at www.brisbanetogladstone.com.au This year, Gladstone Regional Council is also proud to support the establishment of a Brisbane to Gladstone Village along the Auckland Creek waterfront which will host a Brisbane to Gladstone Line Crossing Party, a Yachtsman’s Long Lunch and see the return of the popular and much-loved, Seafood Festival. It is great to see people choosing to holiday at home this Easter and enjoy these new events and continue to enjoy the Harbour Festival and all that it has to offer. The festival would not be possible without the generous support of the sponsors and the Gladstone Festivals and Events staff and volunteers and others who put in so much work to bring us this great community event each year. Thank you to all those who contributed to bringing this year’s Harbour Festival to life and I trust everyone attending will have a great time. Matt Burnett, Mayor

71st Yacht race
71st Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race One of Australia’s most significant and largest yacht race’s, the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, celebrates it’s 71st anniversary in 2019. The first race featured just seven vessels, five of which were supplied with pigeons from Brisbane’s Homing Pigeon Club, to assist with position reporting birds were released twice a day. This year’s 308 nautical mile ocean classic will start on Good Friday, April 19, 2019. From the start at Shorncliffe, yachts proceed via a mark off Redcliffe Point to the North West Channel up to Caloundra and through to Gladstone. In 2018, Queensland Racer ‘Black Jack’ took an impressive line honours victory smashing the 14 year old race record in the process but the winner of the race and the prestigious Courier Mail Cup, one of the oldest perpetual trophies in Australia that has been competed for on a continual basis, was ‘Ichi Ban’ who backed up their win from 2017. Both boats will be back this year; Black Jack intending to brake its own record and Ichi Ban aiming for an historic third win in a row. After two successful years, the Live Streaming of the Start of the Race has proved so ground breaking in the sport of sailing that the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race is quickly establishing itself as the bench mark against which all other races are being measured. Despite the obvious success, the team at QCYC are not content to rest on their laurels and will be introducing a number of new initiatives for the 2019 race that will extend out the excitement the Live Stream generates. Pre-promotion will feature new concepts, there will be ongoing updates throughout the race, the finish will be Live Streamed, there will be interviews with skippers as they reach Gladstone and, to wrap it all up, the presentation ceremonies will be live streamed. This ongoing coverage will provide followers unparalleled access to all aspects of the Race.
