EXAIR’s new Super Air Wipe™ produces a 360° airstream that can blow off, dry, clean or cool the material passing through it. The split design can be clamped around continuously moving material such as wire, cable, pipe, hose and extruded shapes. The 1/2” Super Air Wipe ejects a small amount of compressed air through a thin slotted nozzle that pulls in high volumes of surrounding room air. The airflow uniformly ejects from the 360° of its inner diameter. Coupling brackets that hold each half of the unit together can be latched together or removed quickly.

Additional shims can be installed if more blowoff force is required.

The Series CBAS Belt Alignment Switch is a rugged and reliable conveyor belt alignment switch. The compact die cast aluminum housing is designed for easy installation. The switch cover allows for simple access to wiring terminals and angle adjustments. Belt alignment switches are typically used in pairs with one switch on each side of the conveyor belt mounted near the first and/ or last pulley of a conveyor.

Each Series CBAS is equipped with two micro switches, allowing one actuation angle for small belt deviations and a second actuation angle for extreme belt deviations. The actuation angles are factory set at 20 degrees and 35 degrees. Each angle can be easily adjusted in the field.

10 STEPS TO PREVENT SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS IN YOUR FACILITY

S

lips, trips and falls aren’t always our number one safety concern. After all, most of us have had our share of slips and stumbles — and they usually only result in a few scrapes or bruises (and maybe a slightly smaller ego).

But slips, trips and falls are actually a serious concern in the workplace. In fact, they are one of the top causes of injuries in today’s workplaces.

Slips, trips and falls account for thousands of employee injuries each year, including some that are disabling and even fatal. Approximately 20% of all workplace injuries are caused by slips, trips and falls. For the employer, this number results in days away from work plus monetary costs.

So what can your company do to prevent slips, trips and falls from occurring in your workplace?

Here are Brady’s 10 steps to slips, trips and falls prevention: 11. Assess your slips, trips and falls needs. Ask an authorized employee or a third party to come on site and perform a complete audit of your facility.

Oftentimes you’ll find there are more hazards than you realized. During the assessment, ask them to document and summarize both the required and recommended steps that your facility should take to minimize your risk of slips, trips and falls.

12. Mark your aisles, passageways and uneven surfaces.

Use heavy-duty, highly visible warning tape and floor tape to mark any uneven walkway and floor surfaces in your facility. If the walkways are exposed to a variety of lighting conditions, use reflective or photoluminescent warning tape to ensure that they will be seen at all times.

13. Provide traction of slippery surfaces and stairs. Stairs are one of the most common areas in a workplace for slips, trips and falls. To prevent injuries, make sure your stairs are marked with anti-skid floor tape with yellow and black stripes and text that reads “Caution” or “Watch Your Step.”

15. Maintain proper housekeeping. Be sure to keep your work environment and walking areas free of obstacles, including trip hazards like cables and wires. Many companies even mark walkways and work areas with yellow lines and enforce policies for “obstruction-free zones.”

16. Mark temporary maintenance and janitorial hazards.

Proactively identify situations that may cause slips, trips and falls, and be sure to mark the areas ahead of time. Short-term hazards due to maintenance and housekeeping should be marked with cautionary floor stands, barricade tape and warning posts and chains.

17. Quickly detect and correct spills and other contaminants. Establish a set process for detecting, assessing, and correcting spills that occur in the workplace, whether it is an oil leak, a water puddle or other liquid spill. Be sure that your facility is stocked with the proper amount of sorbent pads, rolls and emergency spill kits for immediate response.

18. Inspect your scaffolds and ladders. Establish a standard at your workplace for frequently inspecting your scaffolds and ladders for damage, faults and wears. Use scaffolding tags, ladder tags and micro tags to mark the date of the last inspection and the authorized employee who conducted it, as well as the date that the next inspection is due.

19. Train your employees. Employee training is one of the most important elements of preventing slips, trips and falls. Educate employees on why slips, trips and falls occur; teach them how to look for hazards; provide tips on ways to prevent injuries; and, most importantly, raise awareness and build support for prevention efforts. Many companies purchase interactive training CDs or hire a third party expert to present on the topic.

10. Sustain your prevention program on a day to day basis. Your prevention program should be more than just a binder on a shelf. Preventing slips, trips and falls is not just about having the right equipment, warning devices and shoes. It’s about establishing a constant, cohesive program that is integrated into your facility’s daily operations. If you make prevention a part of your employees’ every day routine, you’ll be much more successful at sustaining your program.

The OSPE electrohydraulic steering unit features proven OSP steering technology and an integrated electrohydraulic steering valve. It helps simplify hydraulic system architecture. The OSPE steering unit offers a defined “safe state”. In the event of an electronic or hydraulic system malfunction, this option, activated by an external watchdog controller, can isolate the electrohydraulic section of the steering valve in order to protect the steering system. Another safety feature ensures that, in electrohydraulic steering, the steering ports from the OSP will not be blocked.

A

s the producer of McDonald’s® French Fries, McCain® Foods knows how important it is to deliver a strong product. Due to the difference in air temperatures inside and outside the freezer, McCain Foods had an ice accumulation problem threatening operations. The ice could potentially fall into open containers, contaminating the food and making it unsafe. Therefore,

every few days during shutdowns, workers would have to scrape the ceilings to keep the ice below two-inches thick. Tiny high-speed fans only reduced buildup in small targeted areas. In a process area of the plant, steam resulted in condensation, thereby creating a mold issue as well.

“Ceiling-space-challenged” operations — like many manufacturing and distribution facilities — need cooling air movement over large areas, but may not have the overhead space to accommodate 8 to 24-foot ceiling-mounted fans. In addition, Pivot 180’s oscillating function allows the air generated to radiate 100 feet outward, enveloping a 180 degree arc from side to side — a coverage area of an incredible 12,000 square feet.
