WORK LIGHTS

The Work Star 2000 retains the multidirectional lighting head, but light output has been vastly increased. The MRO technician simply suspends the light by its hook or its magnet and turns the LED light head to direct the light where he wants it, leaving his hands free. Other features include dual light level, integral magnets and retractable hook. The light is rechargeable with a run time of up to 10 hours, and includes an LED charge indicator to make the operator aware of the state of the charge.

OPTOCODE (OCD) absolute rotary encoders are now available with a new combined interface that enables simultaneous communication of both absolute and incremental rotary position data.

The new interface is designed to provide robust point-to-point communications between encoders and many popular types of programmable logic controllers (PLC). The new interface reports absolute rotary position data to the PLC using the synchronous serial interface (SSI) standard, operating over an RS422-485 communication link. At the same time, the encoder can also transmit a series of electronic pulses as the shaft rotates — up to 16,384 pulses per rotation. Optionally, an index pulse can also be sent once every complete rotation.

These “dual-personality” encoders can be extremely useful for motor control applications or for monitoring rotating machinery, such as wind turbines.

Netherlocks’ mechanical valve interlocks eliminate human error to ensure that critical valves are locked in the proper position. They are operated with two colour-coded keys, which through a trapped key mechanism, control the open and closed position of a valve and communicate its current state. When the green key is released, the valve is locked in the “locked-open” position. For the red key to be released the valve must be locked in the “locked-closed” position. If a valve is left in a midway position between open and closed, both keys are trapped in the device. Through this system, the current position of the valve is guaranteed. The valve interlocks are fully mechanical with no need for electronic wiring. They are easily incorporated into a new construction and are suitable for retrofitting older installations to mitigate potential safety issues.

MULTI-AXIS DRIVE

The AMP-43240 is a 4-axis servo drive which provides up to 750W per axis. It resides inside Galil’s DMC-4040 or DMC-4143 4-axis motion controller enclosure. The packaging of the multi-axis drives with the motion controller saves space and wiring. The Amp-43240 contains four transconductance, PWM amplifiers for driving brushless servo motors at 20-80 VDC. Each amplifier drives motors operating up to 10A continuous, 20A peak per axis. The gain settings of the amplifier are user-programmable at 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 Amp/Volt. The switching frequency is 24 kHz. The amplifier offers protection for over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, short-circuit and overtemperature. A shunt regulator option is available.

The Frequency Analysis Software allows tuning of servo control systems in the frequency domain. Tuning in the frequency domain is often preferred for systems with resonances or when the design engineer is comfortable with classroom control theory. The new software in conjunction with a Galil motion controller measures the frequency response of the plant to be controlled. It simulates the possible control solutions and synthesizes the two to allow for Bode analysis of the closed loop system. FAS plots the magnitude versus frequency and phase versus frequency for both the Galil motion controller and the plant.

Oldham couplings are typically used in motion control applications where zerobacklash performance is required. PUSHBUTTON SWITCH INDUCTIVE POSITION SENSORS

Balluff’s new BIP linear inductive position sensor has an absolute measuring principle for position monitoring in applications such as drive spindles and clamping devices for tools and workpieces. The sensor can be used for many other linear motion applications such as punch depth, grab positions, rolling positions, valve positions, etc. The BIP is non-contact and linear travel of up to 40mm can be reliably detected. Mechanical adjustments are not necessary as the sensor is teachable on site, allowing the measuring range to be adapted to the application. With the IO-Link Variant this is also possible via the control system.

C&K has developed an ultra-miniature pushbutton switch that saves assembly time. Designated the FP Series, the totally sealed construction utilizes an o-ring between the actuator and bushing, which prevents contamination. This sealing feature allows for automated soldering and cleaning, which saves time during the assembly process. The RoHS-compliant switches are available in both vertical and right angle mount configurations, and offer an extended operating life to 50,000 cycles. The updated film bed now features a more rigid pinch roller section, with components designed to ensure that the roller section cannot be assembled out of square.

More rigid “fingers” prevent the film from wrapping around the pinch rollers.
