No two of us are alike, but there are some suggestions based on your face?s shape that might help you perfect your brow look. If you have a rounder face, a higher arch might be best for you. For those with diamond or heart shapes try a rounder brow look. Oval gals might find their best brows have a little bit of an arch, but nothing too dramatic, while Squared faced gals may find a slightly more angled brow suits them best. And, when it comes to thin or bushy? you decide, not anyone else. I?ve rocked fuller brows most of my life and certainly in the 80?s when Brooke Shields eyebrows defined the times. My thinning eyebrows of age are a bit of a challenge, but with the right knowledge and products, I?m finding the best look for myself today. And, for today, that?s a win in my silver journey. Have you been thinking of going gray but are unsure how to approach the conversation with your stylist? Or have you already had the conversation and it didn?t go so well? Here are some tips on navigating the dialogue. Before getting into the ?How To?let?s get into the ?WHY?. Let?s start with ?WHY?a stylist might freak out by a client announcing they want to go gray. BREAD AND BUTTER It starts in the first days of cosmetology school. When stylists begin learning about hair color, the first thing they?re taught is that single process, gray coverage services are ?the bread and butter?of the business. Historically, it?s been considered the most reliable source of income. After the losses hair professionals have experienced through the pandemic (lockdowns, supply shortages, clients moving, heavy direct online marketing of products, inflation, illness, high demand, less double booking, staff shortages), many stylists have been hanging onto their sanity by a very fine thread/hair! This is ?WHY?a platinum proclamation may send them into a panicked tailspin.
JACK MARTIN Another reason ?WHY?a stylist may resist is because of the very talented, Jack Martin. If you haven't come across his work, he?s a stylist/colorist who is known for taking clients from previously colored hair to silver in one sitting. Many feel his rates are absurd but to be honest, as a fellow stylist, I feel they?re quite affordable for the skill, time and product it takes to achieve those results. Telling a regular client that a gray-in-a-day service will cost over $1000 and that maintenance will require additional investment in products and services for maintenance purposes? well, it?s nerve wracking. The fear of losing the client by simply giving them a fair yet expensive quote is overwhelming. Stylists have already lost so much in the past 2.5 years. Losing a beloved regular client is both financially and emotionally traumatic (because stylists love their clients!). CONFIDENCE Last but not least, not all stylists feel confident they can take clients gray in one sitting or maybe even over a span of time because it?s a new request that they?re not used to getting. It?s mortifying to tell a client they don?t know how to do it.

Like a birthmark visible to the world, my silver strands and I have grown up together. My silver became much more prominent after junior high school and my hair became somewhat of a novelty to family and friends. And although my early silver was unusual, I distinctly remember older women telling me that silver was a sign of wisdom, and I was very comfortable with my hair ? until my daughter was born? It had never occurred to me to hide or cover my silver. However, during my second pregnancy, the silver had spread to my temples, and I began to develop the ?silver halo?. For the first time in my life, I felt like people were actively encouraging me to hide my silver. The final straw came when a stranger asked if my infant daughter was my granddaughter! Standing next to me was the friend who for years had been telling me to color my silver. She looked at me, smiled and said, ?I told you.

After some initial trepidation, I took a deep breath and decided to cut it all off! Was it scary? A little? but the decision to finally free myself and get back to the real/best me was an exhilarating feeling! After two decades, I?m extremely grateful for my silver journey because I now realize that it was never about my hair. Today, Silveristas are rejecting the notion that our version of beauty must be anything other than what we want it to be for ourselves.
