Why Girl Scout Camp?

Girl Scout camp is a place where campers get to try new things and overcome fears while gaining confidence, independence and making new friends in an environment just for campers. It’s where campers get to be explorers, creative thinkers, and build their leadership skills in new and exciting ways.

Thank you to our summer camp sponsors as of December 23, 2021 for helping us to provide lifechanging, outdoor experiences that build girls of courage, confidence, and character. Camp Starwoods

Camp Four Winds

This sprawling 160-acre camp encompasses a multitude of outdoor and indoor experiences.

Campers can enjoy both primitive and cabin camping, swimming in our lake, arts and crafts, and a variety of outdoor activities.

This 232 acres in the Flint Hills offers Sky Lofts (built on stilts), Compass Center, an activity building, yurts, primitive camping areas, a 40acre lake, and hiking areas – perfect for any adventurous outdoor experience.

Camp Double E

State Parks

This 8.3-acre camp on the Neosho River, just northwest of Emporia, has two shelter houses, a gazebo, hiking trails, and offers a variety of sporting options including an archery range.

Great location for first-time campers.

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland partners with Kansas State Parks to provide outdoor experiences throughout the state. This summer, we’re bringing program to Wilson, Cross Timbers, Cedar Bluff, El Dorado, and Historic Lake Scott State Parks. The Kansas State Parks offer beautiful campgrounds and varied program experiences led by both Park Rangers and Girl Scout staff.

Teen Opportunities What are the benefits and what will I learn as a CIT? The CIT program helps teens develop the leadership skills and tools to become a role model in the everyday lives of younger campers. During the CIT program, you will gain skills in teaching core camp programming, facilitating activities, and managing peer relationships and the conflicts that can arise.

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program

What is the CIT Program?

The CIT program is a training program where Girl Scouts entering grades 8-12 will receive an opportunity to be a Counselorin-Training at GSKH’s summer camps during select sessions.

Camp Volunteer Opportunities

CIT 1: The first two years of the CIT program focus on learning about leadership and practicing these skills in a safe environment with close supervision by camp staff.

CIT 2: Teens who have completed at least one year as a CIT 1 and will be entering grades 10-12 may qualify as a CIT 2. At this level, the program is focused on applying your leadership skills. CIT 2s

I want to volunteer at summer camp!

As a volunteer, you’ll introduce campers to new experiences that show them they’re capable of more than they ever imagined. You’ll be their cheerleader, guide, and mentor—helping them develop essential life skills and confidence that will last a lifetime. Imagine the excitement, the impact, the memories made—those are the moments you’ll share at Girl Scouts.

take on greater responsibility for planning, preparing, and delivering camp activities. If selected as a CIT 2, not only will you attend camp at no cost, you will receive a small daily stipend.

Types of Camp Experiences Resident Camp

Is your camper ready to eat, sleep, and live the camp life for multiple days? Resident camps vary from a “mini” session of 3 nights to an “expert” session of 10 nights. Campers spend their days swimming, playing, and learning and their evenings bonding with their bunkmates. Campers will participate in activities that will help them build life and outdoor skills, such as arts & crafts, boating, target sports, cooking over the campfire, and much more. Depending on the camp location and theme, campers will stay overnight in dome tents, platform tents, yurts, or cabins.

Troop & Family Camp

If your troop or family would like to camp together, this type of camp is a great option! If attending as a troop, volunteers must register and attend to meet adult-to-girl camping ratios for their troop. If attending as a family, as least one caregiver must register and attend as chaperone. Our “You and Me” sessions are great for introducing outdoor experiences to young Girl Scouts!

Day Camp

For novice campers who prefer a day only experience, Starwoods day camps are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m., with check in and pick up allowed 30 minutes prior or after. Day campers will participate in a variety of activities depending on their age, including swimming, archery, climbing, team building, and boating. Day campers who are entering 2nd grade or older can extend the fun by adding a Wednesday night slumber party to their camp session for an additional $35.

Travel From local field trips to international excursions, travel is a big part of the Girl Scout experience! Council led travel opportunities range from regional trips such as Farm to Table and Turtles & Kayaks to international trips including Japan in 2023 and London to Lucerne in 2024 (email info@gskh.org to learn more).

Troop travel is a popular option – anything from a local day trip to an international adventure! Girl Scouts and adults work together to plan, budget, and arrange trip details according to the guidelines and requirements for travel. A travel guide is available at kansasgirlscouts.org as a resource to successful planning.

A Travel Application must be submitted for all overnight activities.

(first and last name), in original container with instructions. Medications MUST be turned into GSKH staff or nurse at check-in.

Please mark all personal belongings with your camper's first and last name. Additional items may be needed, depending on the program, theme, and activities. A specific list will be sent via email two weeks before your session begins.

All About Camp Level Up Campers are eligible to attend camps that are for the grade they are going into next fall. For example, a girl who is going into second grade can attend camps that are for or include Brownies. A girl who is going into fourth grade can choose from camps in the Junior age range. The official beginning of summer camp programs is May 15, so campers will attend spring sessions through May 14 as the grade they are finishing, and summer camps on or after May 15 as the grade they are going into.

Registration & Cookie Credits

Early registration opens for all council-led programs on February 1 with a $25 deposit per session. This season’s Cookie Credits become available on April 15 and will be applied to any camp balance due. Any remaining balance for early registration is due May 1. When registering for a session after April 15, Cookie Credits are automatically applied to registrations first and any remaining balance is due at the time of registration.

NEW! Campers who register for multiple council-led camp sessions will receive a $10 discount on each additional session!

Registration for partner-led and volunteer-led programs opens on April 15, with the full balance due at time of registration.

The icons on the event pages can help you figure out who is leading an event. Partner-Led sessions have the partners logo next to the session.

Refund Policy

Volunteer-Led

You may cancel your reservation for an event or summer camp and receive a full refund, minus any deposit, if the request is received more than 14 days prior to the start of the session.

Limited refunds will be given within 14 days of the program; see full refund policy on our website and attached to your Ultracamp confirmation email for specific refund scenarios. No refund is given if the girl is a no show or leaves a session early. Additionally, t-shirt or other optional purchases will not be refunded and travel may have an earlier refund date.

Program Types

Girl members only: Just like it sounds, these events are for registered Girl Scouts only.

Volunteers only: These training events are designed for Troop Leaders and other volunteers.

Campers with chaperones: Each Girl Scout must have a chaperone in attendance – this can be a volunteer, parent, or guardian.

Girl Scout family event: Event is open to family and friends of the Girl Scout member. All youth must be chaperoned.

Public event: Open to everyone!

Bussing is back!

Day camp at Starwoods runs from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. daily, with check in at camp as early as 8:30 a.m. and pick up as late as 5:30 p.m. Campers may ride the bus from the Wichita office to Starwoods each day; this is a great option for east side families or caregivers who need an earlier drop off time. Check in at the office begins at 7:45 a.m. The bus leaves for camp at 8:15 a.m. and arrives back at the office at 5:15 p.m.

Campers must be picked up by 5:30 p.m.

Financial Assistance We never want finances to get in the way of having an amazing Girl Scout summer! Camperships are available! Apply at: kansasgirlscouts.org/councilcares.

Travel Assistance

This option is now available through the Campership program! You can request funds for fuel in order to transport your daughter to the camp of her choice.

Camp Key Day Campers – Explore the outdoors by day, sleep in your own bed at home each night.

Beginner Campers – These shorter camps are an ideal setting for first time campers.

Intermediate Campers – Spend 2-5 nights learning and practicing new outdoor skills.

Advanced Campers – Designed just for camping pros and outdoor enthusiasts.

May Brownie Bugs

Old Cowtown Museum 1865 Museum Blvd, Wichita Date: 5/31 Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Grade: 4-5 Registration Deadline: 5/16 Program Type: Girl Members Only Girl Cost: $27 Adult Cost: n/a Work and play can go hand-in-hand! Girls will play games, try a few Victorian chores, and have fun discovering what it was like to live in a different era.

Cooking was a major part of a Victorian girl's life and girls will try different cooking methods while learning skills that cross ages. Girls will create a meal they will be able to eat, but bringing a big snack is highly recommended. Adults who are interested in attending a chaperones should contact Cowtown directly. Earn Simple Meals and Playing in the Past badge (provided).

Volunteer Training 2022 NSC First Aid/CPR/AED This course provides you with the skills needed to successfully perform First Aid and CPR. At the conclusion of this course, you will be First Aid and CPR certified by the National Safety Council. This course includes a home-study portion, and then skills and written testing with a certified instructor.

Once you have registered, you will receive the materials for the home study. Participants must be physically able to perform the basic skills required for CPR. Participants will not be allowed to enter the class if they arrive more than 15 minutes after the class begins.

Outdoor Camping This overnight course combines the Cabin Camping course curriculum with a deeper knowledge of outdoor camping experiences. This is required for any camping experiences outside of a cabin/walled facility. After completing this course, volunteers will be able to take their girls on a camping trip.

You'll learn about health and safety procedures, how to set up a campsite and the equipment needed, tent pitching, troop and individual packing, Kaper Charts, meal planning and preparation, multiple methods of cooking, dishwashing, starting a wood fire, compass and trail signs, Leave No Trace principles, and how to tie these experiences to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Ambassador Girl Scouts may also take this course. Prerequisite to this course is Outdoor Basics found in gsLearn.

Small Craft Safety

Level 1 Archery Instructor

Small Craft Safety (Canoeing and Kayaking) is the current Safety Activity Checkpoints requirement to facilitate a canoeing or kayaking experience for girls. A prerequisite course in gsLearn: GSUSA Small Craft Safety Training is required. In this course, you will learn skills for basic water rescue and small craft. During the 3 hour hands-on course, you will practice and demonstrate your skills. Note that this is a safety and rescue course, not a skills class; participants should be familiar with basic canoeing and kayaking skills before arrival. Participants must be able to pass a swim test and all rescue techniques.

The USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification course provides graduates the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety both on and off the archery range for beginner archery programs To successfully complete the requirements for this certification, students must successfully pass the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification online course, including the online exam and register for and complete the "in-person" USA Archery Level 1 Instructor practical course to officially receive a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certificate of completion. The USA Archery Level 1 Instructor will learn about range safety, range setup, the steps of shooting, equipment and repair, programs and lesson plans and is well prepared to teach beginner archery programs to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of disciplines. It is also recommended that you become a recreational member of USA Archery ($15 per year) Once you have registered for this course on UltraCamp, you’ll receive information on how to register and pay ($40) for this hybrid course.
