ICON GUIDE Family Camp FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 5PM – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 10AM Camp Mosey Wood, Lake Harmony Grades: All ages Cost: $90/person (Children under 2 are free) Enjoy a weekend of fun and relaxation with your entire family! Parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents and other relatives are invited to Camp Mosey Wood to swim, boat, hike, play games, create crafts, and enjoy other activities independently. Activity specialists will be on hand to guide you through archery (second grade and above) and the high-ropes challenge course (sixth grade and above), as will lifeguards to oversee swimming and boating. Adults must supervise children during the event; one adult must register with every three children. *Includes accommodations and all meals served in the dining hall.

Grades: 9–12 Cost: $20/girl Time to take on the real rocks! Join GSEP belayers and improve your climbing skills and confidence as you scale the High Rocks area at Ralph Stover State Park. Let out your inner risk-taker as you climb and rappel with your sister Girl Scouts cheering you on.

Please bring water and a snack. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Adventure Seekers

Grades: All ages (5 and older)

Camp Mosey Wood, Lake Harmony

Cost: $40/person

Grades: 6–12

Bring your friends! Grab your parents and siblings, too! Get a taste for adventure racing as you maneuver the trails of Camp Laughing Waters with your team of two to four people.

Run, bike, and use a map to navigate your way from point to point during this two-hour race. *Everyone will be challenged to a fun course full of obstacles. You may get wet or muddy, but you’re guaranteed to have fun. Afterward, spend the day at camp from 12-4PM for a Camp Fun Day! Try your hand at archery, disc golf, gaga, and volleyball.

Enjoy a picnic lunch (self-provided) while you listen to the sounds of our house DJ. Check out our awesome partners at the partner pavilion and meet Girl Scouts from all areas of our council. Register for this event via EventBrite at toughcookiechallenge. eventbrite.com.

Cost: $115/girl $95/adult Adventure on land, in the water, and through the air! What more can you ask for? Spend Saturday at camp aiming straight at the archery range, paddling across the pond, and climbing to new heights as you tackle the multi-tiered challenge tower and soar through the air on the dueling zip lines.

On Sunday, head out for a day of whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. All adults must have a satisfactory background check to participate in the program. *Includes Friday snack, all meals on Saturday in the Dining Hall, and a cold breakfast and packed lunch on Sunday.

Science of Style THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 6-8PM Alvernia University 400 St. Bernardine Street, Reading Grades: 9–10 Cost: $5/girl Fashion and beauty are glamorous businesses, but it’s the science behind them that makes them cutting edge. Join students from Alvernia University and explore fashion over the years.

Examine outdoor fabrics and accessories, like transition lenses and rain jackets. Get your lab coat ready as you make and test lip gloss, soap, and hairspray. Create an eco-friendly outfit out of recycled materials for the fashion show! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes Science of Style badge.

Join the Wildlands Conservancy’s team of naturalists and explore the basics of canoeing. Learn how to handle a canoe in the calm waters of the Lehigh River at Canal Park.

You’ll explore the hidden life of the Lehigh while searching for macro invertebrates. All equipment is provided. Life jackets must be worn by all girls and adults. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Do you like sports and recess? Get creative and work in small groups to create new rules for your favorite games. Discover how much fun changing things up can be! Join us for a fun field day full of friends, fitness, and festivities. Playing games is exercise, and exercise is fun! All troops must meet girladult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes Fair Play badge.

History in the Making SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 10AM–12PM National Museum of Industrial History 602 E. Second Street, Bethlehem Grades: 4–5 Cost: $23/girl Get ready to be transported back in time to 1876! Join the staff at the National Museum of Industrial History and learn about how women lived in the 19th century. Become an exhibitor in the Women’s Pavilion at the World’s Fair, learn about the first woman engineer, or join Susan B. Anthony as a women’s right activist. Get ready to dress up and use artifacts from the museum’s Centennial Gallery as you recreate the lives of real and fictional characters from the period.

Learn how to work an antique printing press, handle silk worm cocoons, and petition for your right to vote! All troops must meet girladult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes admission to the museum and Playing the Past badge.

Spend the afternoon with the sisters of Kappa Delta as you learn about girls in different countries. Create your own Chinese paper lantern and participate in Indian dancing known as Leela. Leave with new knowledge and inspiration from around the world! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Night Hike with Nature SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 6–8PM The Nature Place 575 St. Bernadine Street, Reading Grades: K–3 Cost: $17/girl $5/adult Come enjoy nature’s nightlife! Learn how to follow trail signs and what to pack for your nature hike. Then take to the trails as you explore various land areas including wetlands, fields, and woods. Please bring a flashlight with you to the program. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Earn troop proceeds while having fun? That’s right! Begin the 2017 Nuts About Reading program with superhero-themed games and arts and crafts, while participating in our 59 Minute Quick-Start! This fun one-hour challenge helps participating girls boost their sales. Just bring a cell phone and your smile!

Earn a patch too! Bring any new or slightly used books to be donated to a local literacy organization. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes snack and event patch.

Grades: K–3 Cost: $10/girl Spend the day outdoors! Have fun with friends as you play games, sing songs, and make a treat for birds using recycled materials. Learn critical outdoor skills, too, like how to identify poison ivy and fire-building basics. Then enjoy the sweet

smell of the campfire while you roast a marshmallow for a tasty s’more. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes s’more snack and Outdoor Adventurer badge for Brownies.

Weekend Escape FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 7PM – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 11AM OR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 7PM – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15, 11AM Camp Wood Haven, Pine Grove Grades: 2–12 Cost: $60/girl $45/adult Travel to camp for a weekend of fun and friendship in the great outdoors! This newly created weekend program is the perfect way to kick off your troop year! Whether you want to relax, explore camp, or work on a badge or project, you’ll be able to create your own schedule. Oh, and don’t worry about cooking, all your meals and snacks will be provided! Staff-led activities will include age-appropriate adventures like archery, field games, and an environmental scavenger hunt.

Girls in grades 4-12 will take to the sky on the low-ropes challenge course and climbing wall.

All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individuals girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. Adults must have a satisfactory background check to participate in the program. *Includes accommodations in outdoor units, all meals and snacks in the dining hall, and event patch.

Cost: $20/girl Experiment with different types of media and techniques as you create your very own masterpiece—or two, or three! Use charcoal, pastels, pencils, and markers while learning how to shade and perspective draw. Find what inspires you to tell your story and, literally, go back to the drawing board! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Learn how to properly and safely use hammers, screwdrivers, and levels while creating a oneof-a-kind project from wood. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes Woodworker badge.

Behind the Mask SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, 5–10PM OR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 5–10PM

Grades: 2–3 Cost: $30/girl Come to Camp Wood Haven for an afternoon of fun with the horses! Play pony games, create a pony art project, and go for a ride.

This is an introduction to horses; no previous riding experience is necessary. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group.

Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. All riding activities will take place weather permitting. *Includes snack and Horse Fun patch.

GSEP Journey Day: Brownie Quest & Get Moving MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 8AM–5PM Camp Mountain House, Allentown Grades: 2–5 Cost: $30/girl Parents, do you need somewhere to send your daughter on her day off of school? Girls, are you looking for a fun, relaxing break?

Come to Camp Mountain House and enjoy a day filled with fun and hands on activities while you work toward earning your Journey award set! Brownies, discover the importance of friendship and how to share your skills and talents with your sister Girl Scouts! Juniors, learn about energy, natural resources, and the importance of conservation. Please bring a bagged lunch. *Includes Brownie Quest Award set for Brownies, Get Moving Award set for Juniors, and afternoon snack.

Every fall, Dorney Park transforms into a haunted nightmare. Go behind the scenes to see how the Haunt Make-Up Team prepares its actors for an evening of scaring and entertaining guests. Take some time in the late afternoon to tour the town of Gettysburg and enjoy dinner.

Older girl presenters and adult volunteers are needed to help create and deliver our Maple Sugaring and Maple Sapling programs. Chaperoning adults are free unless otherwise indicated by a per person or per adult price for the program. All adults must be registered for the program.

• All girls attending a program or event must be registered Girl Scouts.

Girls new to Girl Scouts can register as a new member online at gsep.org through MyGS.

• Due to planning issues and safety concerns, walk-in girl and adult registration cannot be accepted at any GSEP event.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES Registrations are accepted until the program is full or one week prior to the program date, whichever comes first. Please allow at least four weeks lead time from the program date for processing of paper registration forms.

We cannot guarantee paperwork submitted less than four weeks in advance will be processed in time for you to attend the program.

CONFIRMATIONS Confirmation packets are sent via email the first business day after registration closes. If registration closes on a Saturday or Sunday, you should expect the confirmation the following Monday.

SPACE & ATTENDANCE Program space is limited. Attendance capacity is based on the needs of the program itself and cannot be adjusted due to late registration, transfer requests, troop needs, etc. Program capacity and space availability can be viewed online. Badges and patches will only be given out to girls who are in attendance.

TROOP REGISTRATION Only approved troop leaders/co-leaders can register current troop members using the troop management feature.

PAYMENT Payment for all programs is due in full at the time of registration. Space will not be held for any registration forms submitted without the full payment amount that is due.

• Council-sponsored programs are designed for specific age/grade levels.

Please only register for programs that are in your age/grade level.

REFUNDS Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to memberservices@gsep.org at least four weeks in advance of the program date for consideration. Refunds are not issued for “no shows” (registrants who do not attend).

• Leaders, parents, and guardians must make arrangements to leave other children at home. Additional children and/or family members are not permitted to attend any GSEP program.

Refunds are not issued for cancellations occurring less than four weeks in advance or if numbers are reduced less than four weeks prior to the event.

• All GSEP Sponsored Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, all volunteers participating in the Girl Scout movement shall meet GSUSA membership standards, which include committing to the Girl Scout Promise, accepting the Girl Scout Law, and registering annually through the Council as members of the Girl Scout movement. Effective January 1, 2014, prior to registering for all programs sponsored by GSEP, adults who are interested in attending must have a current membership.

This applies to all of the programs advertised in Spark or via the GSEP website or other communication. Cost of registration is $25 and is in addition to the cost of the program. Adults can register online.

CANCELLATIONS GSEP reserves the right to cancel an event due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond our control. In the event a program is canceled, a full refund will be issued.

• Trips & Overnight Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, when girls go on trips and overnight programs, the group must have at least two unrelated, registered, cleared, and trained adult volunteers.

Adults who attend overnight programs or share GSEP property at the same time girls are in attendance need to be cleared and registered to ensure the utmost safety of the girls. Effective January 1, 2014, in addition to becoming a registered adult member of Girl Scouts, any adult who registers for an overnight program with GSEP will have to
