The Foundational Girl Experience Mapping Your Course to Girl Scout Success There is an exciting year ahead for you as a Girl Scout at Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania! Each year we plan events and activities that help you prepare for a lifetime of leadership, but also to have fun, make friends, try new things, and be part of something great.

It’s up to you to decide on your path, but we have some suggestions that we believe will help make your Girl Scouts year extra-special.

Attend one or more Outdoor Activities like GSEP Loves State Parks (pg. 6) or Maple Sugaring (pg. 18).

Take a field trip with your troop to a program like Eco-Friends at the Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary (pg. 7) or Movin’ and Groovin’ in the Outdoors at the Fishtown Recreation Center (pg. 8) or attend a Girl Scout event like Shoot for the Stars (pg. 8) or Emerging Engineers (pg. 12).

Here’s what you’ll need for Girl Scout success!

S tart with one girl between the grades of K–12. Set in an all-girl environment that is a safe space to take risks, learn new things and build confidence.

D iscover a variety of activities and collect new experiences focused on STEM, Outdoor, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.

E arn up to four badges or complete a Journey.

C omplete a community service project.

Earn a Service Award.

E arn a Highest Award (Bronze: grades 4-5, Silver: grades 6-8, Gold: grades 9-12).

Be part of the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program—COOKIES! E njoy Girl Scout traditions: wear your uniform (or not), sing songs, live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law, take part in ceremonies and so much more.

Combine all this with FUN, FRIENDS, and SMILES and you have an experience that will make you want more every year!

Signature Events at GSEP Signature Events are fun programs designed and led by GSEP staff. Defining, building, and practicing leadership skills is a focal point of each Signature Event.

Check out all of the awesome Signature Events coming up this year on page 30–31 of Spark.

Signature Events for Girls Targeted for girls both in troops and individually registered members, these events are designed to build on your leadership journey, while learning, meeting new friends, and having fun!

Signature Events for Families Girl Scouts is even more fun when the whole family joins in. Everyone is invited to take advantage of family-friendly Signature Events at GSEP (even little or BIG brothers!).

Leadership opportunities at all levels For Volunteers: Volunteers are at the heart of Girl Scouting.

GSEP offers several volunteer-only events each year that are terrific opportunities for volunteers to learn new skills, network, practice self-care, and have fun with other volunteers.

Examples include and Fall Leadership Weekend and the Volunteer Award Ceremony.

Council Events: GSEP hosts several large-scale events each year that increase awareness about Girl Scouting, raise funds for camp and other programs, and highlight girls’ achievements.

Examples include Take the Lead and our annual celebrations for Silver and Gold Awardees.

Spotlight on Service Making the world a better place is a key element of the Girl Scout mission.

Did you know that there are many ways to participate in service projects in our council? Whether you are completing a Take Action project as part of a journey, serving your community with your Service Unit/Troop, or working on one of the Girl Scout Highest awards, you can make a difference!

GSUSA provides national opportunities for service. In April 2022, GSUSA launched the Girl Scout Tree Promise national project. GSEP is proud to be a participant in the GSUSA Climate Challenge and Tree Promise grant. This grant is made possible by the generosity of Johnson & Johnson Foundation. Through this grant, eligible GSEP troops will complete climate-science focused activities as well as plant trees to support the Girl Scout Tree Promise goal of planting 5 million trees in five years.

Instructions on how to apply to be a part of the grant are coming soon!

GSEP infuses our Girl Scout Leadership Experience with opportunities to take action! Many of our Staff-Led and Partner programs include service to Girl Scouts and service to our surrounding communities. Look for this icon next to a program listing to identify these opportunities. Girl Scouts can earn hours towards service bars, engage with community needs, and develop an understanding of future needs—culminating with their development of Bronze, Silver and Gold Award project ideas, proposals, and projects!

GSEP also wants to make sure you know where to find a full listing of the fantastic partner organizations and causes that need our help. Take the Lead Girl Program Opportunities Take the Lead is GSEP’s signature fundraising event honoring our community’s most distinguished women whose leadership and professional achievements make the world a better place.

Girl Scouts can be a part of this exciting evening in a number of ways. Girls who

Step up and be a LEADER at Take the Lead!

Join the GSEP Take the Lead team of staff members as you help plan and facilitate Take the Lead training, attend and report on the Girl Experience at Take the Lead committee meetings, and lend a hand during event day.

Lead Role: Presenter Grades 10-12 Be a RISK TAKER by breaking out your notebook and preparing your best questions.

Interview and shadow a Take the Lead honoree and present her award at the event. Girls must be able to participate in the shadow day on a weekday and write a speech (GSEP will provide a school note).

Prerequisite: Prior Emcee and/or Presenter.

Lead Role: Chorus Lead Grades 6-8 Do you have a special interest and music and are you looking for a new leadership role? Warm up those vocal cords and help lead the chorus.

Lead Role: Campership Lead Grades 6-12 As an INNOVATOR, share your camp experience with the crowd and help introduce a live auction to help send sister Girl Scouts to camp!

There are three events and Girl Scouts in grades 6–12 are needed to perform a variety of Lead Roles at each.

Participation includes Take the Lead patch and rocker, snack at training/rehearsal, and dinner at a Take the Lead event. All lead roles require an interview for selection. A member of the Girl Experience team will reach out in October to set up interviews.

September Family Camp FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 5PM–MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 10AM Camp Mosey Wood White Haven, PA 18661 Grades: ALL Cost*: $100/girl $100/adult Enjoy a weekend of fun and relaxation for you and your entire family! Parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents, and other relatives are all invited to Camp Mosey Wood to participate in organized activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, games, and crafts. Attendees can also enjoy other activities independently. Activity specialists will be on hand to guide you through archery (2nd grade and above) and the high-ropes challenge course (6th grade and above), with lifeguards overseeing swimming and boating. Adults must supervise children during the event; one adult must register for every three children.

GSEP Loves State Parks SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 OR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 Various State Parks within the GSEP footprint Family Event Cost: Varies Hiking trails, lakes, streams, wildlife, and more, Pennsylvania is home to many beautiful state parks. Head out to one of our local state parks to enjoy some Girl Scout fun with your family. Come for just a few activities or plan to spend the day, when you are out in nature, the possibilities are endless! Also, bring your non-Girl Scout friends to show them what we are all about! Splash into Adventure!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 7PM–SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 4PM Camp Mosey Wood White Haven, PA 18661 Grades: 6–12 Cost*: $125/girl $100/adult This weekend is all about the water! Spend time out on the lake in rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and on Stand Up Paddleboards!

View the lake from a new perspective as you soar over it on the zip lines, and explore the beaver habitat as you paddle to the overflow.

You will definitely get wet this weekend, so be sure to pack extra clothes! Sunday, the water fun does not end, as it is time to travel to Lehighton and take a rafting trip down the Lehigh River! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. All adults must have a satisfactory background check on file to participate in the program. * Includes activities listed (weather permitting), rafting, accommodations in tent units, and hot meals served in the Dining Hall Saturday and a cold breakfast and bagged lunch Sunday.

Each level will participate in multiple camp activities and earn two badges for their level that relate back to the environment and service to Girl Scouting!

Brownies: Time for some fresh autumn air!

Head to camp to learn new ways to play outside, explore different concepts about nature and practice ways to take care of our outside world. Spend time hiking around camp, bouldering across the rock wall, learning about bugs and the importance of trees through the tree promise! Brownies will earn two badges—Bugs and Hiker!

Juniors: Are you ready to become a Tree expert? Come spend time in nature!

Adventure around camp, learn campfire safety, sleep in platform tents - all while learning what it takes to care for our camp Trees! Juniors will earn two badges—Flowers and Gardener!

Cadettes: Does being around nature make you happy? Head to camp to learn all about the secret life of trees while learning more about the ways you can create happiness!

You will take on the Tree Promise and help repopulate the trees around camp while taking time to participate in other camp related activities. Cadettes will earn two badges—Trees and Science of Happiness!

visit our Southside Permaculture Park gardens, learn about garden design and planting, and experiment with plants of your own! You’ll get the chance to see the hard work of our student gardeners and we’ll show you how to dream up your very own garden. After that, you’ll be able to start your very own garden in egg cartons from a variety of seed options, and you can bring it home to watch it flourish in 1-2 weeks! All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. Individual girls must be accompanied by a registered adult. *Includes the Gardener badge.

Are you a self-proclaimed environmental advocate? Join the Wildlands as you get hands-on experience with environmental issues and learn how to help make positive changes to the environment. You’ll meet an eco-explorer and take a deep dive into biodiversity. All troops must meet girl-adult ratios for their group. GSEP Out of School Journey Day: Think Like an Engineer MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 9AM–4PM Camp Mountain House Allentown, PA 18103 Grades: 4–8 Cost*: $35/girl Looking for a break from school? Come to Mountain House for some camp fun all while earning your Think Like an Engineer Journey award! You’ll play gaga, learn about the engineering design process, create tie-dye, and work with your sister Girl Scouts to complete several hands on design challenges. Camp is calling and adventure awaits! This is a girl-only program. * Includes snack and the Think Like an Engineer Journey award.

Cadette Trees Badge Virtual Workshop WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 7PM–8PM Virtual Grades: 6–8 Cost: $5/girl Get to the root of what trees are all about and branch out as a naturalist! You’ll dig into the amazing science of trees , make a creative project starring trees, and explore the connection between people and trees.

Spend the afternoon perfecting your archery technique, aiming for the bullseye and creating challenges for each other. Junior Digital Leadership Badge Virtual Workshop THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 7PM–8PM Virtual Grades: 4–5 Cost: $5/girl Digital leaders unite! Find out how you can use technology to help others and explore how to learn, share, and lead in the digital world. Leave the meeting knowing how technology can make the world a better place! From Girl Scouts to College: Application Strategies (Partner Event) MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 7–8PM Virtual Grades: 11–12 Cost*: $18/girl You might be wondering, how can I leverage my Girl Scout experience on my college application? Join Claster Education Services and learn the ins and outs of the Common Application and Coalition Application. We’ll focus on the activities and writing sections and discuss how sharing your Girl Scout activities and accomplishments can help you stand out in the admissions process. A weekend of adventure awaits you in the Poconos! Stay in heated cabins with other troops. Spend Saturday in camp enjoying winter sports such as ice skating and snowshoeing (weather permitting) and head over to the local tubing hill for evening snow tubing. After a Sunday brunch, we head over the local Indoor Water Park for four hours of splashing around and fun! You must provide your own transportation to the ski resort and water park. GSEP Presents: Maple Sugaring SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, STAGGERED ARRIVAL TIMES Camp Laughing Waters Gilbertsville, PA 19525 Family Event Cost*: $15/girl $10/adult Step back in time as Older Girl Scouts lead you on a sweet three-hour tour of the history of maple syrup! Experience everything from the discovery of maple sugar to how maple syrup is produced today. Taste test sap and syrup to learn which one is your favorite, learn the science behind collecting sap and the process to make it into syrup. This program runs three hours and has staggered start times. You will be prompted to select your start time during the registration process. Coming as a troop: all troops must meet girl/adult ratio.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES

REFUNDS

Registrations are accepted until the program is full or one week prior to the program date, whichever comes first.

Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to memberservices@gsep. org at least four weeks in advance of the program date for consideration.

Refunds are not issued for “no shows” (registrants who do not attend).

Refunds are not issued for cancellations occurring less than four weeks in advance of the program date. Refunds due to illness or injury require a doctor’s note for consideration.

PAYMENT Payment in full is required to secure your girl’s spot. Cookie Adventure credits may be applied toward any of your program registration fees. To use Cookie Adventure credits as payment please contact Member Services at memberservices@gsep.org (include the subject heading: Adventure Credits for program). In your email, please give detailed information including the name and DOB of the program participant, the name and date of the program they wish to attend, and the amount of adventure credits to be used. Registration will be completed back office and you will receive a registration confirmation once it is processed. The space in the program is not secured until the backoffice registration is complete, the email request does not guarantee a space in the program.

CANCELLATIONS GSEP reserves the right to cancel a program due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond our control. In the event a program is canceled, a full refund will be issued. For cancellations, email notification will be sent to each registrant. Phone numbers and emails can be updated at any time through the Program/Event Registration System when you visit your online profile on our website at gsep.org.
