FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Announces $2.4M Gift from Philanthropist and Author MacKenzie Scott One of the largest gifts ever received by the organization from an individual donor INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 18, 2022) – Girl Scouts of Central Indiana today announced that it has received a $2.4M unrestricted gift from philanthropist and novelist MacKenzie Scott.
The $2.4M dollar gift is one of the largest unrestricted donations ever received from an individual donor in the organization’s history. It will allow Girl Scouts of Central Indiana to expand its capacity to provide additional innovative and relevant programs that address the most urgent needs of girls today, while preparing them to be leaders in a future that will be full of change, challenges, and opportunities. “We are so grateful to Ms. Scott for making this generous gift to our organization and the vote of confidence and validation it indicates for the entire Girl Scout Movement,” said Danielle Shockey, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. “This donation will be transformational in helping us identify and eliminate barriers within our community, particularly within the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion, to ensure that our mission is relevant, welcoming, and accessible for all girls and their families.” Research shows that participating in Girl Scouts is a powerful factor for developing courage, confidence, and character, which in turn builds a foundation for success in education and careers, enables a lifetime of leadership, and provides high levels of life satisfaction.
