about our Keynote Speaker
Erika J. Kendrick is a bestselling author, awardwinning national speaker, mental fitness expert, and Girl Scout Gold Award recipient. She earned a psychology degree from Stanford University and an MBA in marketing and international business from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Erika was an NBA cheerleader for the Chicago Bulls before writing her novels, “Confessions of a Rookie Cheerleader” and “Appetite.” She is currently touring her bestselling middle grade novels, “Squad Goals,” “Cookie Monsters,” and “Instafamous.”
After beating her “mental monsters” and slaying her “brain pain,” Erika founded Mental Fitness for Life to empower others to truly thrive – not just struggle to survive. Through open conversations about her lived experiences with depression and sharing strategies to meet challenges head-on, Erika has inspired people of all ages to prioritize their mental wellness and create a life filled with purpose, resilience, and joy.

Courage. Confidence. Character.
Girl Scouts have the courage to take risks, the confidence to be themselves, and the character to lead authentically.

Making the world a better place.
125 girls contributed 4,637 hours of community service by creating sustainable solutions to identified needs in their communities while earning Girl Scout’s highest Leadership Awards.

Backed by dedicated volunteers, mentors, and the community, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.

Through local initiatives including our Community Troop program and our Mobile STEAM Lab, GSHS is changing the face of women’s leadership in the Mid-South today and into the future.
Hosted on school campuses during the school day, our Community Troops program ensures that girls have access to and are enrolled in educational, extracurricular activities that build their courage, confidence, and character; as well as help them develop new competencies and make new connections.
Just like “traditional” Girl Scouts, girls in our Community Troops participate in a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun activities, like earning badges, going on field trips, selling cookies, getting outdoors, and doing community service projects. They also have opportunities to meet other Girl Scouts through attending council-sponsored events such as summer resident camp, Totally Trefoil, HERo Day and Fresh Air Day at our own Camp Fisherville.
Community Troop members also get the opportunity to experience our Mobile STEAM Lab which brings hands-on learning directly to girls. Equipped with a VR (Virtual Reality) classroom, chemistry lab, art studio, coding center, and more, girls prepare for their futures.
Research shows girls learn best in an all-girl, girl-led, girl-friendly environment. Girl Scouts is a place where girls practice different skills, explore their potential, take on leadership positions – and feel allowed to fail but gain the confidence to get up and try again.
