At Girl Scouts Louisiana East, we believe in the Power of G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ and have changed the name of our annual council guide and resource book for girl members, parents, leaders or advisors, to Program Power, to reflect how our activities and experiences power Girl Leadership.

There is no organization that more thoroughly understands the value of programming designed specifically for girls and delivered in an all-girl learning space than Girl Scouts.

So whether it’s Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) that interests you, or Life Skills, the Outdoors, or Entrepreneurship, we hope you’ll unleash your inner G.I.R.L. and join us for a year of adventure, learning, and challenging activities.

FAQs

Program Frequently Asked Questions Who can participate in Girl Scout events?

Will I receive confirmation of our participation in a council-sponsored event?

A registered Girl Scout is welcome to participate in programs either independently or as a troop.

Yes. A confirmation goes to the troop leader, adult in charge, or individual registering prior to the event with directions and instructions for the event (usually by email). Make sure that information is distributed to troop members who are attending the event.

Who do I contact if I have questions about the program activity?

Under each program there is a contact person listed who will be able to answer questions about the event.

What is the refund policy?

Who do I contact if I want to see if I’m registered for the event?

A full refund is made only when the council cancels the event. If your schedule changes, it may be possible to transfer your event fees to a future event. No fee transfers will be made for no-show troops or girls. All transfer of fees will be made at the discretion of the Chief Development Officer, Program and Properties.

When does registration open and close? How are council program events filled?

How does the council ensure that girls have a safe and enjoyable time at events?

Listed under each program offering is a registration open and deadline date. Registration is open until the maximum number of participants is reached or the deadline date arrives, whichever occurs first. If by 4 p.m. on the opening date the council has received more registrations than the maximum number of participants for that event, a random drawing will be held to select the participants. In order for your registration to be processed the full amount of the fee must be included with the registration.

All events are planned according to Girl Scout Volunteer Essentials and Safety Activity Checkpoints. Please adhere to Volunteer Essentials and Safety Activity Checkpoints at all Girl Scout programs (i.e. using the buddy system, etc.).

How will I know that an event has been cancelled?

If you are attending an event hosted by the council and it is cancelled, the adult listed on the event information will be notified by email or by phone.

What is the leader’s responsibility for the event if the whole troop attends?

Are Badges included?

The leaders must provide a sufficient number of adults to meet Safety Activity Checkpoints. They must also ensure that there is a currently certified first aider, a First Aid kit, the original permission slip for each girl, completed Health History Record for each girl, completed Health History for each adult, and items listed in event or confirmation description. The leader is responsible for monitoring her troop/group’s behavior and actions.

Do I have to be in a troop to earn a Badge or Award?

If my daughter participates in a program independently, how will she be supervised?

Girls participating independently should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers may be available to supervise groups of girls participating independently at certain events, but please check with the program staff member listed under each event to see if your daughter needs to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Can I sell cookies or fall products if I am not a member of a troop?

Yes, any registered Girl Scout can sell cookies or fall products to earn program credit.

When fees are listed per girl, adults do not have to pay for the event. When fees are listed per person, any individual attending the event must pay the fee.

Absolutely not! Girl Scouts earn badges or awards by completing the requirements set by the council or the national curriculum, either independently OR with a group.

September 2018 WRANGLER/SPUR Program

Open to girls, age 14 and older (Wrangler), and girls, age 12 – 13 (Spur).

Are horses your thing? Would you like to share your riding skills and knowledge of horses with younger girls? Then consider joining the Wrangler/Spur Program. You will be paired with adult and girl mentors to teach Western horseback riding workshops at Camp Marydale to troops and service units. Wranglers also help with special weekend events such as Horseback Riding Junior Badge Workshops and other horse workshops.

Louisiana SPCA

Animal Guardian Workshop Open to girls, grades 3 – 12

Wrangler/Spur Program

Be an Animal Guardian and earn your LA/SPCA Animal Guardian Badge! Come to the LA/SPCA and learn about an animal shelter’s function in the community and how you can help save more lives. Your troop will get the chance to learn about animal welfare, tour the LA/SPCA, and complete an activity to earn their Animal Guardian badge, only offered at the LA/SPCA! Price of the patch is included in the fee.

Orientation & Training Weekend Open to girls, age 14 and older (Wrangler), and girls, age 12 – 13 (Spur).

This training at Camp Marydale is open to girls 12+ years old who are interested in joining the Wrangler/Spur Program regardless of experience. You will learn policies and procedures necessary in the program and then head to the barn for hands-on training with our horses that will help you succeed the first time you volunteer.

Adults who are interested in volunteering in the program must also attend an orientation session prior to volunteering. The training weekend is for all members to come and learn about new procedures and gain new experience!

When: Saturdays, September 8, 2018; October 13, 2018; November 10, 2018; December 8, 2018; January 26, 2019; February 23, 2019; March 16, 2019; April 13, 2019; and May 11, 2019.

Time: One-hour workshops are available at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Where: The Louisiana SPCA, 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70114 Fee: $8 per Girl Scout ($30 nonrefundable deposit required to reserve your date and time. Any workshop can be rescheduled up to 3 weeks before the scheduled workshop time. There will be a 25% processing fee assessed if rescheduling with less than 3 weeks’ notice.)

Capacity: Minimum 6/Maximum 20 Registration Instructions: A minimum of 7 day advanced registration is required. Deposits are due at the time of registration. If paying by check, the LA/SPCA must receive registration and payment three weeks prior to the workshop.

Join the LOOP NOLA team for a day of exploration and education in the wetlands of Bayou St. John! Come canoe in Bayou St. John and learn about the plants and animals that play a vital role in southeast Louisiana’s habitat. Participate in team-building games and activities directly relating to the ecology surrounding you. Through hands-on activities, girls will experience methods commonly used in water quality testing and wetland conservation. Take this opportunity to explore a little used area of New Orleans and learn more about your role in protecting our wetlands! If this special date does not work for you, or it fills up quickly, please contact Heather West at hwest@loopnola.org to establish your own troop outing.

Note: Girls and adults should wear closed toe shoes and dress in comfortable clothing that they do not mind getting a little dirty. Game and Clinic

Open to girls, grades K – 12 Join the Loyola Wolf Pack Women’s Volleyball team for a special skills clinic after their 2 p.m. match. Be sure to bring your outside voice inside for cheering on the Loyola Wolf Pack Volleyball team!

The clinic will concentrate on NAIA’s Champions of Character program and the five core values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.

When: Saturday September 15, 2018 Time: Clinic follows 2 p.m. match.

Here’s your chance to work with our members of the Wrangler/Spur Program as they introduce you to the basics of horse care with hands-on grooming. You’ll also tour the barn, receive a fun patch, and end your session with a pony ride!

Girl Scout Day at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Open to girls, grades K – 12 Join us at the Baton Rouge Zoo for a day of Girl Scout only activities designed to complete requirements from the Animal Habitats Junior Badge! The event and activities are open for girls of all ages, but only Girl Scout Juniors attending will receive a badge, although some activities might relate to other age level badge requirements as well.

Workshops for grades 2 – 3, grades 4 – 5, grades 6 – 12 This workshop invites girls to experience a faith journey through exploration of the Girl Scout Law and teachings from their faith while completing the requirements of the My Promise, My Faith pin. This award helps girls explore how Girl Scouting and their faith offer similar ideas about how to interact with the world around them—and how Girl Scouting can tie into their faith. Girls can earn this national pin each year.

Girl Scouts has always provided many opportunities for girls to grow in their respective religious faith, including religious recognitions that are facilitated at an individual or troop level through a faith community. Each girl is encouraged to develop her own strong values within the context of family, faith, and the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Open to girls, grades 7 – 9 and grades 10 – 12 Four safety sessions led by law enforcement and youth safety professionals will focus on the following subjects: being streetwise (safe at home, in your neighborhood, school, and community); crime and violence prevention (bullying, cyberbullying, and dating violence); choices that shape your future (prescription drug abuse and misuse, illicit drugs, and alcohol prevention); teen driver safety (distracted driving, seatbelt safety, and driving under the influence); leadership skills – being a peer advocate!

Many national park sites have volunteer programs that can offer Girl Scouts an opportunity to assist in a variety of long-term or short-term service projects to improve and ensure protection of park resources and facilities. Girl Scouts are encouraged to take part in any sustainable organized project, agreed upon by the NPS, as an appropriate service opportunity that protects and preserves park resources.

Girl Scouts and their leaders should contact the park Volunteer Coordinator to select and develop these projects and activities.

After spending five hours at a park participating in activities, you will get a certificate from the National Park Service. Spending 10 hours, you will be awarded a Girl Scout Ranger patch! The Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Barataria Preserve have designed some great workshops and other opportunities to help our girls get started! Challenge Course Adventure Open to girls, grades 6 - 8 Join the LOOP NOLA team for a day of High and Low Rope adventures at their Challenge Course in City Park! Then you will have the chance to challenge yourself by climbing and traversing the High Ropes while up to 30 feet above the ground.

Open to girls, grades K – 12 Have a wild time exploring the Zoo, meeting animals up close, and working on your Girl Scout requirements. Girl Scouts can work toward Petals or Badges. Come with a parent or bring your entire troop. Designed specifically for Girl Scouts, these workshops are sure to be an adventure! Badges not provided by Audubon Zoo.

The committee is under the direction of the CYO/Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office of the Archdiocese at 2241 Mendez Dr., New Orleans. Its main purpose and function is to oversee the Catholic religious recognition program for Girl Scouts in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Guardians of the Rainforest – Girl Scouts will have fun learning about rainforests and what they can do to help save the endangered animals that live there.

Important 2018-2019 dates include: an informational meeting and counselor training on Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., CYO office or OLDP, Metairie; book review on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 1 - 5 p.m., CYO office or OLDP, Metairie. Wetland Warriors – Girl Scouts will learn the importance of the wetlands and all that the wetlands provide for us. Troops will learn how to take action to save the wetlands and teach others their importance.

The Girl Scout Overnight program was designed especially with Girl Scout advancement in mind. Individual Girl Scout units are invited to camp overnight while learning about animals. All Girl Scout leaders, parents, Girl Scouts, and siblings are invited to join in the fun with our Girl Scout Overnight program. The activities include animal encounters, exploring biofacts, snack and a night hike, a hot breakfast and a morning hike through the zoo.

The Baton Rouge Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting (info.ccosbr.net) is a committee affiliated with the Diocese of Baton Rouge serving both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Safari Night

Common Ground Relief Wetlands Restoration

Open to girls, grades K -12 What goes on at the zoo at night? Safari Night guests get to find out! Safari Night programs are available Friday and Saturday evenings, year-round. Monkeys chatter, wolves howl, and tigers roar as your Safari Guide leads your group on walking tours of different parts of the Baton Rouge Zoo. You’ll learn all about the zoo’s animals through handson activities and animal encounters.

The Safari Night program is only available for participants ages 5 and up.

All participants receive a Safari Night T-shirt. Enjoy all-day Zoo admission immediately following your Safari Night. A variety of themes are available; call the zoo to receive further information.

Open to girls, grades K – 12 Common Ground Relief owns and operates a tree farm in the Lower Ninth Ward and conducts plantings of trees and marsh grasses for various state and federal agencies. Younger students can assist in seed propagation and butterfly garden care and older students can assist in potting saplings and nursery maintenance projects as half day service events.

Older Girl Scouts can assist them with full day projects that involve planting native marsh grasses and bottomland hardwood trees around the Lake Pontchartrain Basin and along the Gulf Coast.

Safe Sitter is a national medically accurate child care course developed for girls, 11 to 14, who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. This class is taught by registered nurses certified in the Safe Sitter curriculum.

The program teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. At the conclusion of the of the two-day course, participants will receive a program completion card.

* Sensitive Issues: In order to be contemporary and responsive to girls’ needs and interests, some Girl Scout activities focus on subjects that may be considered sensitive. These subjects include, but are not limited to advocacy projects, work with religious groups, or anything that could yield a political/social debate.

Please review the following information so that you are informed of the program content being presented to your daughter.

So much happens to a young girl’s body during puberty both emotionally and physically. Learning how their bodies grow, what changes to expect, and how to take care of themselves are valuable lessons for preteens. This seminar, for girls ages 9-12, includes an informal open discussion on self-esteem, self-care, puberty and communication. A brief and simple introduction to the opposite sex is covered. A parent or trusted adult should accompany each preteen. It will be important to continue discussions at home on these topics as each girl will have their own unique situation, story and culture.

Junior Jazzercise Dance Party Open to girls, grades K – 12

Junior Jazzercise is a perfect program to get girls active and learn the importance of healthy living. The program combines fun, easy-to-follow dance moves to popular music, fitness games, and strength training as well as discussions on nutrition and staying fit. Girls will receive a Junior Jazzercise fun patch for participating. Activities overlap Girl Scout badge activities. Refer to corresponding age level Girl Guide for related badges.

Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy Friday Night Fun Night, Parents Night Out!

Open to girls, ages 5 – 14 Come play and do gymnastics in their wonderful new facility!

There will be supervised gymnastics activities on the Bars, Beam, Vault, Floor, and Tumble-Trak, as well as games, music, and fun in the 12,000-square-foot facility. Ivanov’s provides a pizza dinner with non-caffeinated soda. No experience necessary, just bring your smile and the desire to have a great time!

Jean Lafitte National Park Open to girls, grades 4 – 12 Jean Lafitte National Park offers Citizen Science programs which provide opportunities for youth to get hands-on experience gathering data for national and local research projects going on at Barataria Preserve. Participants get to learn about the scientific method and gather data that is available to the public and used in national studies. Learn about the water cycle and do water quality testing or learn about seasonal plant cycles and observe and record data about local plants and climate change.

Fee: $12 per girl when registered with their troop. Fee includes pizza dinner.

Capacity: Minimum 40/Maximum 60. If less than 40 children registered at the four-week deadline, troops will be contacted to reschedule.

Registration Instructions: Advanced Registration is REQUIRED at least four weeks prior to the scheduled event. Any late registrations will be required to pay a $17 per girl fee.

Please complete the GSLE Program Event Registration Form, including roster, and either mail it or bring it to the gym with your troop’s payment. Forget the modern sewing machine and electricity! Learn how and sew or quilt. Students learn how to follow a basic pattern or quilting pattern. All students take home their finished project!

Select any one of these three programs being offered by the Lacombe Heritage Center: The Nature of Learning, which is a hands-on environmental education initiative; Adopt-A-Spot 9/11 Living Memorial Cypress Tree Planting Project to plant bald cypress seedlings in select locations in St. Tammany Parish; and the Bartram Wilderness Adventure Resource Restoration Trail and Blueway, an eco-adventure tourism development project. These three initiatives are interconnected as they supply academic and field instruction in the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, and other locations throughout St. Tammany Parish. Our programs combine learning with practical application.

Note: Dress should be appropriate for outdoor activities in the wetland and forest environment, with sunscreen, insect repellent, and first aid. Parking will be available close to the site, but some walking may be required. They will endeavor to have food donated by local businesses, and participants will be notified if successful.

Learn to operate a sewing machine and create your own custom project such as pillow cases, lunch totes, pajama pants, and hat scarves. In this class students will learn the basic operations of a sewing machine, how to thread the machine and fill a bobbin.

Students will also learn about different types of fabric and what each fabric is used for along with how to properly cut and piece fabric together to create a finished product to take home. There is no need to bring your own sewing machine or tools. All supplies are included.

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation

Beach Sweep

Students work with a pastry chef to decorate cookies or cupcakes using, butter cream, royal icing or fondant. In this exciting class students will be challenged to learn proper decorating techniques using piping bags, tips and other tools specific to the decorating medium. Projects can be customized based on age/skill level of the troop along with holidays or current season. Each student will take home decorated treats along with basic decorating tools to show off their skills later!

Open to girls, grades K – 12 Help keep our lake and waterways clean by participating in this annual event. The cleanup will be followed by celebration picnics held in several areas, including LPBF’s New Canal Lighthouse. Girl Scouts are always a huge contributor to the annual Beach Sweep, so please come participate and help keep our lake clean for everyone to enjoy year-round!

Come visit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation at our lighthouse on Lakeshore Drive and earn the LPBF badge! Girls will tour the lighthouse museum and explore the history of the New Canal Lighthouse while learning about its five women keepers of the light. Learn about the Lake Pontchartrain watershed and water quality of the lake through hands-on activities and water sampling. Discover the importance of saving our coast by creating a bead bracelet that represents our multiple lines of defense against hurricanes and storms.

Come visit Longue Vue for a day of exploration and learning with friends! Cadettes will be naturalists for the day while working on tree identification and tree-inspired artwork. Get crafty while exploring the world of trees – to know them is to love them!

Come visit the Discovery Garden for a day of exploration, learning, friendship, and fun! Daisies will expand on their Daisy Flower Garden by planting a Friendship Garden and investigating the life of our favorite garden helper – the ladybug! Come explore the world of ladybugs and flowers!

Take a guided tour through the lovely house at Longue Vue and then leisurely explore the gardens. Girl Scouts and Girl Scout adult volunteers will receive special ticket pricing plus go on a self-guided nature scavenger hunt while exploring the gardens.

Finish the day with a garden-themed craft in the Discovery Garden and complete your visit by picnicking at Longue Vue under somemighty Oaks!

BASF Kids’ Lab Workshops

Enjoy a day of entertaining, educational discovery at the Art and Science Museum as Girl Scouts participate in dynamic demonstrations and hands-on activities designed to make learning about engineering meaningful and relevant.

Opportunities will abound for applying the concepts of the engineering process and making interdisciplinary connections in math, science, technology, design, and the arts. This exciting event will also provide Girl Scouts with insight into STEM careers related to engineering, construction, and design.

Open to girls, ages 6 – 12 Explore the wonders of chemistry in these hands-on science workshops sponsored by BASF and offered at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum on the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays of every month! Each 45-minute, instructor-led workshop offers fun, engaging chemistry experiments such as Chemistry is Bananas, Playful Polymers, The Rainbow Connection, The “pHun” Factor, A Hair-Raising Experiment, Energy Loves Produce, Hold Everything, and Happy Hands; activities change monthly.

All participants will receive a lab apron, safety glasses, and a cool backpack. At least one adult is required for every four child participants.

The Children’s World Fair is a celebration of various cultures and a chance to embark on an exciting trek all in one day! This event is also an inter-generational celebration of cultural diversity in the contributions of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). While on your expedition, you will experience an international exhibition of crafts, hands-on projects, activities, music, literature, native attire, and food from many regions of the world.

Mad Science is on a mission to spark the imagination of children everywhere with exciting, live, interactive programs that instill a clear understanding of what science is really about, and how it affects the world around us. Mad Science is proud to offer a large selection of STEM workshops. Choose one of their existing science themes or allow them to customize one to meet badge requirements.

All programs are led by highly qualified instructors using unique equipment and are performed at the location of your choice!

Additionally, workshops include: exciting demonstrations that introduce scientific phenomena; concept illustrations through physical expression that engage students with the material through body movement; hands-on activities that encourage students to become the scientists; take-home tool of science exploration reinforcing the lesson and continuing experimentation at home.

Typically, the event engages over 1,000 explorers who will travel around the world with them, with proceeds providing critical support to the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s hands-on exhibits, educational programs, and fun, safe, and meaningful learning opportunities for the children of this region.

Girl Scouts Field Trip: Photography for Girl Scouts

Open to girls, grades K – 12 Girl Scouts will learn basic and primitive sculpting techniques for making utilitarian vessels from clay. Girl Scouts can earn a badge with the pottery techniques learned. Three pieces of pottery will be made, glazed and fired in a kiln.

Open to girls, ages 10 – 12 Snapping and sharing a photo has never been easier. Girl Scouts can use photographs to capture family memories, good times with friends, and selfies. Photography also allows Girl Scouts a chance to be creative and express their imagination using photographic elements such as lighting, composition, depth, color, and content. Going far beyond taking the ubiquitous selfie, in this workshop, Girl Scouts will learn to take expressive photographs, edit them, and present them as objects of art using a variety of Microsoft products and devices.

Give your Girl Scouts the power to write and the confidence to address a crowd in public. Public speaking is rarely a favorite, easy, or fun task, but it can be! With the skills and tips offered in our 2-hour workshop, you will work through a variety of ageappropriate activities necessary to obtain a Cadette Public Speaker Badge.

Learn how to code in this hands-on programming camp. During the free, two-hour camp, girls will work in a real software development environment, gaining experience with Touch Develop. Participants will use their creativity and imagination to develop a unique personal collage that can be shared with family and friends.

A confident speaker has the skills to connect with an audience, to persuade them or to share an experience. Those who can be themselves while speaking self-assuredly to one person—or a crowd—will benefit from this important life skill.

At the end of this camp, participants will: have increased confidence in their technical and coding skills; improve their computational and creative thinking; read and understand code in the Touch Develop environment; create and publish a coded script containing a personal collage. It is recommended that each girl bring her own set of headphones for an optimal experience.

Participants will conduct an interview of a salesperson, use their favorite Microsoft products to search for a presentation topic and create a unique PowerPoint presentation as a visual aid. With a Dance off Challenge on Xbox for good measure, Girl Scouts will be much more comfortable sharing their reasoned thoughts with a crowd.

Ogden Museum of Southern Art Open to girls, grades K – 12 The Ogden Museum of Southern Art invites Girl Scouts of all ages to participate in a special tour followed by an art-making activity.

During each two-hour program, Girl Scouts will explore the world of Southern art, while working towards the completion of a variety of badges. Badges are not provided by the Ogden Museum.

Girl Scouts encourages girls to grow in their religious beliefs by earning Religious Recognitions offered by their faith communities and by earning the My Promise, My Faith pin, which helps a girl deepen the connection between the Girl Scout Law and her faith.

While GSUSA is a secular organization, Girl Scouts has always encouraged girls to take spiritual journeys via their faiths’ religious recognitions. Girl Scouts recognizes that religious instruction must come from the family and faith community.

As a part of WWII Air, Sea & Land Festival, Friday, October 12, will be a special Student Day with free admission for student groups like Girl Scout troops. Troop members will take part in activities focused on both the history and science of flight as they learn about what it took to keep iconic aircraft like these soaring overhead. The ‘Sea & Land’ portion of the event includes tours of America’s only WWII Patrol Torpedo Boat, PT-305, and tanks, halftracks, and jeeps from the Museum’s collection.

Girl Scouts for Football Open to girls, grades K – 12 The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is inviting all Girl Scouts to come out on the field to watch pre game warm ups and address the American Flag during the National Anthem! The bowl game features the champion of the Sun Belt Conference against a representative from Conference USA. Girl Scouts’ Highest Awards Remember, your Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award projects should have strong elements of advocacy, education and sustainability.

Advocacy: “Are you raising awareness of an issue within your community?”

Education: “Are you letting others within your community know how they can help combat this issue?”

Sustainability: “Is your project legacy continuing after you have completed your project?”

Each year in our council over 100 girls earn Girl Scout’s highest awards for their individual program level. 2018-2019 PRODUCT PROGRAM INFORMATION Participating in the council-sponsored fall product and cookie programs teaches girls the five essential skills of goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics, as well as providing much needed financial support for troops and the council. The proceeds from these sales enable girls to fund their activities as well as provide for upkeep of council properties, adult learning, and other council-wide initiatives. In order to participate in money-earning activities, a girl must be a registered member of Girl Scouts. All age levels, including Daisies, may participate in the sales. Participation is voluntary.

FALL PRODUCT PROGRAM Is your Girl Scout troop interested in a money earning activity that’s easy, provides startup funds for the troop right away, and offers customers a variety of delicious yet inexpensive items to purchase?

The council’s Fall Product Sale of nuts, candies, magazines, and address booklets is September 21 - October 21, with a theme of Speak Up, Lead the Way. Ashdon Farms/QSP, the licensed Girl Scout vendor, has even prepared a lot of fun activities for Girl Scouts of all ages to enjoy.

The Fall Product Program is a “Friends and Family Campaign” which means no door-to-door or booth sales. Sixteen different products for sale (ranging from $5 to $10) are being offered, including a collectible Girl Scout vintage camera tin filled with mint treasures, as well as products such as Honey Roasted Mixed Nuts with Peanuts offered in a 16 ounce plastic jar. All orders are prepaid, and the troop earns $1 for every food item sold and 15% for online items.

This year’s community service project gives customers the option to purchase Honey-Roasted Peanuts to be shipped overseas to our military troops! When a girl sells five items for the troops, she will earn a patch.

As the girls participate in the sale they will earn troop proceeds and individual girl sellers will receive incentives ranging

from the interlocking patches, plush animals, and much more. Visit the website at www.gsle.org to view recognitions, products, and for additional information.

Check out the... Online Nut Store As part of the QSP Online Program, emails to friends and family will include the option for customers to order, pay for and have nuts and candy delivered to their homes/ business. All 25 Girl Scout nut, candy and chocolate items will be available as well as five corporate gift items.

Girl Scouts Louisiana East features the 16 most popular items on the order card. Troops earn proceeds for every item sold online with sales being reported on the Girl’s Online Sales Report.

Take Action Projects

TAKE ACTION

In Girl Scouting we encourage girls to do big things while working on an issue they care about. Take Action projects, along with the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards, address the root cause of an issue, towards which girls come up with sustainable, longlasting solutions. These projects strive to make the world a better place for more people for a much longer time.

Take Action projects will be shared with customers through online emails, and you can even ask for a customer’s assistance to help reach your goals. Also, girls and troops will be able to view each other’s projects via a GSLE council Take Action Storyboard.

Adult Learning Sessions Service Unit Fall Product Program Manager Training This learning session helps to prepare service unit product sales managers, service unit managers, and area product sales managers for the upcoming Girl Scout Fall Product Program.

Training includes product information, required paperwork, and yes, product tasting.

Annual Family Giving Campaign The Annual Family Giving Campaign is an opportunity for families and friends of Girl Scouts to make a financial contribution directly benefiting our girls. As a member of our Girl Scout family, you know how important Girl Scouting is to our girls, their families, and the community.

Girls need a place where they can just be girls — having fun, making friends, and feeling safe. Girl Scouting provides girls with the skills to face daily challenges and make sound decisions that affect them today and in the future.

2018 - 2019 Annual Family Giving Campaign - TWO Council Events!

Your gift to our Annual Family Giving Campaign stays right here in our council and helps provide:

New, beginning this year, GSLE is offering two Events to support the Annual Family Campaign. In addition to the many wonderful events that troops and service units conduct, both of these events are also a great way to ensure that all girls who want to be a part of Girl Scouts are able to do so. Please know that any size gift is appreciated and will make a difference.

Maintenance for camp and program facilities that provide a safe environment for learning and growing. Financial assistance for girls who might otherwise not be able to participate in Girl Scouts.

Training, support and resources for your daughter’s troop leaders.

Council programs for girls of all ages where they can discover new ideas and activities, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place.

From the 2017-2018 AFG Campaign: we paid over $10,000 in repairing or replacing roofs at Camp Marydale, purchased new tents and tarps for Camp Covington and Camp Whispering Pines, paid over $15,000 for spillway repairs at Camp Whispering Pines and awarded $10,000 in membership and Resident Camp assistance.
