Editor’s Note A fresh perspective on how small changes make a big difference By Bayleigh Miller, Strategic Marketing Manager If you’ve ever rearranged your living room, you know the magic of a fresh perspective. Suddenly the space feels brighter, more functional ... more you. That’s exactly what we set out to do with Station at a Time (SAT): one flip, one focus, one opportunity to make our cafés shine. In 2024, SAT was just getting started. We introduced micro lessons, station guides, and plenty of ideas to spark inspiration. The goal was simple: take things one step at a time and make change manageable. Fast forward to today, and the results are everywhere: stations that feel brand new, guests noticing the difference, and operators leading the way with creativity and pride. This issue is dedicated to that journey. From spotlighting accounts that crushed their flips and sharing the playbook that makes it all possible, to previewing where we’re headed next, it’s a celebration of momentum. And, we’ll pull back the curtain on the financial impact, because yes, the numbers are just as exciting as the stories. So, grab a coffee, flip through these pages, and get inspired. Because one thing is clear: when we take it one station at a time, big change follows.

THE SAT JOURNEY FROM BOLD IDEA TO EVERYDAY IMPACT—HOW ONE FLIP AT A TIME BECAME A MOVEMENT Remember when we said, “Let’s flip one station at a time”? What started as a bold idea in 2024 quickly became one of the most energizing shifts in our cafés. Station at a Time was never just about swapping out signage or updating menus; it was about breathing new life into spaces where our guests connect with food. From micro lessons to inspiration photos, operators jumped in with curiosity and creativity, and the results speak for themselves. Now, one year later, SAT isn’t just a campaign ... it’s a movement, and it’s reshaping the way we deliver everyday excellence.

THAT’S SO MORRISON MAGAZINE

THE EVOLUTION OF STATION AT A TIME WHERE WE STARTED 2024

The concept launched with one clear mission: to help teams focus on refreshing one retail station at a time, without overwhelming the entire operation. The early “Flip Your Station” campaign sparked excitement across the country, and training tools like the SAT Playbook, micro lessons, digital guides, and the essentials checklist helped make it easy to start. A handful of pilot accounts led the way, proving the power of small, intentional change. The message was simple: when each station gets attention, the entire café transforms.

8

WHERE WE ARE NOW 2025

As Station at a Time continued to evolve, one theme became clear: clarity drives confidence. This year’s work wasn’t just about refining the stations themselves—it was about elevating how we communicate them. To support teams at every step, we introduced a new suite of visual playbooks designed to bring each station to life. These resources give our teams a shared creative language, ensuring every café—regardless of market, footprint, or staffing—can deliver a consistent station experience. By pairing inspiration with practical guidance, the playbooks help operators execute with confidence. It’s a meaningful milestone in our journey to make our stations easier to implement and more engaging for guests.

SMALL ACCOUNT SOLUTION Empowering every café to flip with confidence Not every café looks the same, and that’s exactly why developing the small account solution became one of this year’s biggest wins. Designed for teams who loved the idea of Station at a Time but felt limited by space, staffing, or resources, this new approach proved that innovation doesn’t require a massive footprint, just the right tools. By introducing scaled-down line sets, editable marketing materials, and flexible operating guides, the Small Account Solution broke down the “we can’t” barrier once and for all. Now, cafés of every size have the clarity and tools to refresh their spaces, engage guests, and see measurable results.

10 Virtua Voorhees

The impact has been immediate. Smaller cafés that had previously struggled to execute retail programs are now leading by example. They’re flipping stations, elevating merchandising, and sparking guest excitement—proving that great experiences can happen anywhere. This initiative didn’t just level the playing field; it raised it. By making Station at a Time truly accessible, Morrison has created a culture of inclusivity, accountability, and pride, where every account, no matter its size, can deliver on the promise of retail excellence.

THAT’S SO MORRISON MAGAZINE

COACHING IN REAL TIME WITH REAL CADENCE Turning progress into partnership Every great program needs a feedback loop, and for Station at a Time, Real Cadence became that loop. More than a task tracker, it’s a real-time coaching tool that brings accountability and celebration to life. Operators could upload photos, share notes, and check progress with just a few taps. Leaders could respond instantly with encouragement, suggestions, or course corrections. The result? Coaching that happens in the moment, when it matters most. Through Real Cadence, culinary and marketing learned what worked and what didn’t in real time. Maybe the placement of certain signs caught the attention of more guests, or a grill station layout needed a faster service flow. Instead of waiting for end-of-month recaps, teams could adjust right away.

12

That visibility also helped identify trends across the country. Accounts that used Real Cadence consistently saw faster adoption and stronger engagement. It became a platform for connection, not correction, giving operators the confidence to own their flips and celebrate progress along the way. Real Cadence didn’t just help manage the rollout of SAT; it elevated it. By combining structure with storytelling, Morrison transformed checklists into conversations and metrics into moments that matter.

Field Focus: Jason Robinson HOW STATION AT A TIME IGNITED GROWTH ACROSS GENESIS HEALTH When Station at a Time launched, Regional Director of Operations Jason Robinson was ready to see how it could transform his cafés. Working closely with Executive Chef Brian Hufford and the Genesis East team, Jason embraced the program early—and the results have been impressive. From double-digit sales lifts to creative team engagement, his story proves that when innovation meets execution, everyone wins.

Q&A

“

THE PRIDE OUR TEAMS HAVE IN THEIR STATIONS IS WHAT MAKES THE PROGRAM TRULY SUCCESSFUL.

THAT’S SO MORRISON MAGAZINE

What kind of impact have you seen across your cafés? Jason: It definitely enhanced our retail program. Guests noticed new setups and appreciated the variety. Every time we rolled out a new SAT, we saw immediate increases in both average check and total sales. On average, each new station drove about a 10% sales lift, and the Hearth & Rye station alone increased sales by 31% after launch. That’s incredible! What made Genesis East such a success story?

Jason Robinson Regional Director of Operations

When you first heard about Station at a Time, what stood out to you? Jason: When the program first rolled out, I met with our System Executive Chef, Brian Hufford, and we were excited to introduce it at our Genesis East Café. The concept was approachable but powerful—a clear roadmap for how to elevate each station while keeping the team engaged.

Jason: Chef Brian created excitement with each rollout. Every new SAT became a celebration. We put digital screens at every station showing the SAT logos and menus, they caught attention immediately. Guests loved the energy. The team also went all-in on presentation: signage, new packaging, and creative use of smallwares made every station pop. The Greenhouse began running homemade salads, dressings, and croutons on a threeweek cycle, while Basil & Thyme added new breads that became perfect salad add-ons.

How did your region approach the rollout? Jason: The SAT program had a great manager’s guide with videos and pictures that made it easy to follow. We shared the videos with hourly staff to build excitement. The visual support really helped our teams understand what right looked like, and they wanted to get there. Genesis East, 2024 Account of the Year

16

THAT’S SO MORRISON MAGAZINE

You’ve clearly built excitement for your guests. How did the staff respond? Jason: The pride is what stands out. Once we added the station logos and even colorcoordinated rope lights under the station soffits, the stations came alive. It created a sense of ownership. The staff would say, “That’s my station.” That pride turned into better service and stronger engagement with our guests. What about smaller accounts in your region? Have they found success with the Small Account Solution? Jason: Absolutely. At our smaller Genesis Silvis Café, they rotate SAT programs on a single line—one concept each day. The signage and toolkit made it easy to flip between programs. Even small changes, like updated packaging and recipes, made a noticeable impact. Their sales and check averages improved immediately. Looking at the numbers, what stands out the most? Jason: Since the start of SAT, we’ve consistently seen year-over-year café growth, with an average 10% increase at each new station launch and another 6% lift after each refresh. It’s a program that keeps building on itself.

“

How would you sum up the program’s role in your region? Jason: It’s innovative, something you don’t expect to see in hospital retail. It brings excitement and fresh ingredients to a space that now feels like a modern restaurant. Our guests talk about it, patient families come down for it, and our teams feel proud to be part of it. What’s next for you and your team? Jason: We’re adding a pizza oven at Basil & Thyme for live-action cooking. Guests will see fresh ingredients being topped and pizzas pulled right from the oven. It’s another opportunity to make the café feel alive and keep guests coming back.

FIRED UP: THE EMBERS REFRESH The Embers Grill station refresh reminded teams that sometimes all it takes is a new perspective to bring the heat back to the café. Through the Station at a Time framework, operators took a closer look at how the grill could work smarter—refining menus, tightening prep, and using updated signage to showcase bold, craveable favorites. The Embers refresh also showcased how operational consistency fuels creativity. The station essentials guide encouraged teams to focus on the fundamentals like menu clarity, line flow, and merchandising while layering in make-it-pop elements like signature builds, sauce bars, and limited-time toppings. The result is a station that feels both familiar and exciting, inviting guests back again and again.

THE SAT PLAYBOOK YOUR STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO FLIPPING WITH CONFIDENCE So, exactly how do you flip a station? Spoiler alert: it’s not just about new recipes (though we do love those). It’s about approaching the café with fresh eyes, seeing what guests see, cleaning up what no longer works, and adding those bold touches that make people say, “Wow, I didn’t expect this at a hospital café.” The SAT Essentials Guide pulls everything together— training, marketing, and merchandising—so every team has a clear path to success. Think of it as your cheat sheet for change: the right tools, the right focus, and the confidence to make every flip matter.

LOOKING AHEAD: 2026 Progress in motion—one station, one story, one success at a time The best part about Station at a Time? We’re just getting started! In 2025, the focus was on perfecting the core stations—deli, pizza, grill, breakfast, entrée, and beverage— but the road ahead is even more exciting. Snack stations, catering moments, coffee corners, and smart promotions will tie together the full retail experience, making our cafés feel more dynamic, modern, and unmistakably Morrison. Each new flip brings fresh momentum. The creativity sparked in one station spreads to the next, creating a ripple effect of new ideas and renewed energy across cafés nationwide. SAT isn’t a one-anddone project; it’s a mindset that keeps us growing, innovating, and learning in real time.

From Series Six to refreshed recipe books, merchandising visuals, and micro lessons, we’re continuing to power up the program that’s redefining what retail looks like in healthcare. The updated “What Right Looks Like” framework will serve as our north star— providing clarity, consistency, and creativity in equal measure. With more operator feedback feeding into each update, the playbooks will evolve to meet the moment while staying rooted in our shared standards of excellence. As we look ahead, the message is simple: Station at a Time is here to stay. We’ll continue to evolve, grow, and drive results one station at a time. The journey doesn’t end when the signage goes up; that’s when it truly begins.

STILL MAKING OUR STATIONS POP Because momentum never goes out of style The best part of Station at a Time isn’t just the stations themselves, it’s the people behind them. Every operator, chef, retail manager, and support team member has played a role in turning a great idea into a thriving, national movement. Together, they’ve proven that consistency and creativity can coexist beautifully. From reimagined signage and refreshed line sets to the energy that fills our cafés each day, SAT has become more than a framework, it’s a mindset. Teams are approaching their spaces with curiosity and confidence, asking, “What can we make even better next time?” The collaboration between culinary, marketing, and retail has been the spark behind it all. By sharing insights, celebrating quick wins, and leaning into Real Cadence coaching, we’ve built a culture of continuous improvement that shows up in every guest interaction. As we look to the year ahead, that same energy will carry us forward. Every flip, every refresh, every creative idea contributes to something bigger: a retail experience that surprises, delights, and keeps growing stronger. Because at Morrison Healthcare, we don’t just make it work, we make it pop.
