Brett Cox, Instrumental Music Director Brett Cox joined the NHS faculty in August for his first year teaching instrumental music. From Denton, NC, he attended Southwestern Randolph High in Asheboro and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as part of the NC Teaching Fellows Program. He performed with the UNC Wind Ensemble and was a member of the UNC Trombone Quartet. Cox has served as the Low Brass Instructor, Marching Instructor, and Drill Writer at West Stanly High School in Oakboro. This will be his fifth year affiliated with the West Stanly High School program.
Matthew Hanson, Choral Music Director This is Matthew Hanson’s third year teaching choral music and guitar at Northwood. He graduated in 2012 from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he received both his Bachelor of Music Performance and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. Hanson is an active member of the National Association for Music Education as well as the American Choral Director’s Association. He serves as the faculty advisor for the Tri-M Music Honor Society and music director/arranger for Northwood’s a cappella group, Pitch Please. He resides just outside of Asheboro with his wife, Rebekah, his daughter, Annabelle, and their dog, “Ellie.”
