Brett Cox, Band Director of the Marching Chargers, as well as the Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Bands, is currently in his 3rd year of teaching at Northwood. A native of Denton, NC, he attended Southwestern Randolph High School, where he served as Drum Major. He attended UNC at Chapel Hill where he received a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in Music Education. While at Carolina, he studied trombone with Mike Kris and conducting with Tonu Kalam and Dr. Evan Feldman. Cox is a member of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and the NC Central District Bandmaster’s Association. He also dedicates time to serving in the band at the Point Church in Cary, NC. In his spare time, Cox enjoys spending time with his wife of 2 years, Kerrin, and their Goldendoodle, Bella. This is Matthew Hanson’s 5th year at NHS teaching choral music and guitar. He is a graduate of UNC-G where he received both his Bachelor of Music Performance and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. Hanson is an active member of the National Association for Music Education as well as the American Choral Director’s Association. He serves as faculty advisor for the Tri-M Music Honor Society, music director/arranger for Northwood’s a cappella group, Pitch Please, and as assistant band director for the Marching Chargers. He resides just outside of Asheboro with his wife, Rebekah, his daughter, Annabelle, and their dog, Ellie.
