Leading our Preschool Summer Camp Program each year in addition to working with the preschool-aged students during the school year, Kathie ensures that the preschool camp program is engaging and fun for all campers.

J O H N OV E R M A N As a member of the American Camp Association, John focuses on youth development and creating a positive experience. “Our counselors are relationship driven, and our activities are tailored to camper interests.” For five years, John has led the Day Camp program with high energy, team spirit and genuine excitement for children. During the school year, John teaches English, journalism and video production at Gilmour’s Upper School.

DAV I D K I L K E N N E Y David Kilkenney holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Cleveland State University where he studied the trumpet under the direction of Geoff Hardcastle and Allen Couch. He also holds a master of science in music technology from Indiana University and currently serves on the advisory board for TI:ME Ohio. David has worked at Gilmour Academy for the last 10 years teaching multiple levels of Digital Music Composition and Audio Engineering.
Michael Chiellino is the Head Coach for the Gilmour Academy Boys Prep Hockey team. Previously, he was most recently the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Hockey Team at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., Assistant Director of the boys hockey program at the Nichols School in Buffalo, N.Y.; and Head Coach of the Nichols School Boys’ Prep Division II Hockey team. Chiellino has also coached the Buffalo Saints 16-U AAA and Team Western NY, (2012 Empire State Games in Lake Placid, New York); was the Assistant Director and Coach at Complete Hockey NY; was a USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (presenter); and Team Leader at the USA Hockey National Player Development Camps.

DAV I D PFUNDST EI N David is in his 17th year as the Head Coach of the Gilmour Boys Varsity Basketball team. Pfundstein is also a 1993 graduate of Gilmour Academy where he was a three-year starter and led the Lancers to the Division IV state runners-up status during his junior year. Upon graduation from Gilmour, Pfundstein went on to play at John Carroll University, where he set the program’s season and all-time assist records – both remain intact this day. Pfundstein was inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame in 2009. With a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in school counseling, David has been working at Gilmour Academy for the last 17 years and is currently the guidance counselor for the junior and senior class.

Join us for an exciting camp experience that connects summer fun with the elements of the STEAM curriculum. Your preschooler will enjoy handson science activities, allowing him/her to cook, conduct experiments, and even use computers to work on projects such as making blueprints. Your child will be introduced to a variety of artists while letting their creativity flow as they work with different mediums in the Art Studio. Campers will also swim in Gilmour’s natatorium, ice skate in our Ice Arena, learn taekwondo, take nature walks, and, of course have a blast on the outdoor playground. So... Out in the wilderness, away from the cars. Let's pitch a tent and sleep under the stars. This week campers will discover the fun of the great outdoors. They’ll do it all - from pitching a tent to learning about nature as they hike on Gilmour’s 144-acre campus to making campfire food.
Dinosaurs A long time ago they roamed around. We discover their fossils very deep underground. So open your mouths, give some big roars. Because this week we are visiting the Dinosaurs! As paleontologists we will discover the answers to some of our questions about dinosaurs .We will learn new and fascinating information about these creatures that lived so long ago. Kids will roll up their sleeves and dig for bones, build dinosaur models and create their own creatures in the art studio.

Mother Goose Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill - are just a few to name. Join us this week for songs and poems and you'll be happy you came. Some of our favorite “once upon a time” characters will be brought to life this week. The children will have a chance to recreate stories using puppets and props and will enjoy time in the art studio, letting their imaginations work “happily ever after.”
Oceans Fish and dolphins, sharks and a whale. Come swim in me or go for a sail. Let’s dive in and discover everything we can about ocean life. We’ll explore everything from sea turtles to coral reefs to life inside a shell through fun, hands-on activities. Your little one will love this week at the beach!

Animals will rule the school during this week of wild adventure! Get up close and personal with fuzzy, slimy, furry and scaly creatures as we spend a week “on safari” on our expansive campus.

from rocking out to rock climbing, Gilmour’s Specialty Camps have something for everyone. You can explore all of your interests with our state-of-the-art facilities on our 144-acre campus. DIGITAL MUSIC CAMP June 15-19 Ages 10-14 Groove into Gilmour Academy’s cutting-edge digital music lab where you will write, record, edit and mix your music to create your very own music CDs and MP3s! The week will end with a Rock Star Showcase, where all family and friends can come in and hear everything you have been up to during the week. (Cost is $350)
GOLF CAMP June 15-19; June 22-26 Ages 5-12 Utilizing Gilmour Academy’s on-campus driving range, shortcourse area and putting green, campers will get expert coaching from our dedicated golf instructional staff. Campers will not only learn to play the game, they’ll learn to love the game. Team-building activities and opportunities to swim in our pool add to the fun. A round of 9 holes at a local golf course tops off the week on the last day. Equipment needed: golf clubs (putter, wedge and driver) and bag, golf balls, sneakers or golf shoes. (Cost is $300)
MAKE-A-MOVIE June 22-26 Ages 10-14 This week is all about “action” as you develop a storyline, create a setting and characters, and star in your movie. You’ll help edit it to take home a DVD of your blockbuster. (Cost is $350)

GILMOUR COED SOCCER ACADEMY July 13-17 Ages 8-13 Boys and girls will learn the skills and team tactics to be successful in soccer. It will prepare players for the next level of their careers. The camp will stress sportsmanship and respect for all aspects of the game. It will also incorporate fun drills and games to help boost players’ love of the game while developing them into well-rounded soccer players. Equipment needed: soccer ball, cleats, shin guards and tennis shoes. (Cost is $150)
LET’S COOK JULY 20-24 Ages 8-14 From smoothies and pizza to cobblers and cakes, campers will work with Gilmour’s talented chefs to create a different dish each day. A tasty competition, complete with a mystery ingredient, completes the week of foodtastic fun. (Cost is $350)

Our relationship-driven staff (teachers, counselors, and Upper School students) focuses on providing summer cheer for campers and total satisfaction for parents. Our Day Camp program offers coed and gender- specific opportunities for youth development. Check out our exciting themed weeks offered exclusively for this summer.

Crazy about Culture How much culture can we explore in the fun-filled days? Let’s visit the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for an old-time train ride through the Ohio valley. Girls can create dream catchers, pinch pots, aboriginal dot paintings and fans. For boys, we have plans for making totem poles and pinch pots, building pyramids and creating take-home dragons.

Amazing Talent
In the afterglow of July 4th weekend, let’s check out America from the ground up. We will travel to the Observatory Park to examine everything from stones to stars. Boys get to design rockets and alien faces while girls make glow-in-thedark galaxy paintings. We are going to rock the world this week!
Campers will prepare fun skits for a talent show for all to attend. Polish your tap shoes and dust off your instruments. We will encourage all talents – gymnastics, juggling, magic – whatever you have to show off! And if you’re unsure of what to do, together we will find the fun in you. And, we will travel for Frisbee Golf.
Blast Off!
July 20 - 24 Super Hero Fun What superhero would you like to be? What superpower would you like to have? This final week will have campers imagining the impossible. How did Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman save others in the face of danger? And how is the Incredible Hulk a good guy? Campers will enjoy 2 field trips - ultimate access at Fun-N-Stuff and a summer celebration at Parkview Pool.

In the afterglow of July 4th weekend, let’s check out America from the ground up. We will travel to the Observatory Park to examine everything from stones to stars. Boys get to design rockets and alien faces while girls make glow-in-thedark galaxy paintings. We are going to rock the world this week!
Campers will prepare fun skits for a talent show for all to attend. Polish your tap shoes and dust off your instruments. We will encourage all talents – gymnastics, juggling, magic – whatever you have to show off! And if you’re unsure of what to do, together we will find the fun in you. And, we will travel for Frisbee Golf.

This specialized camp is for all positions and focuses on the skill of playing in tight areas. Playing in small areas of the ice is what the game of hockey is broken down into. Players receive more puck touches and concentrated levels of competition when the size of the playing surface is shrunk. Fast-paced games that foster creativity will be used to focus on the skill development of every player.

Power skating is the most overlooked skill in hockey. Our staff will teach the techniques necessary to improve stride, agility, speed, quickness and power. The focus will be on proper use of edges to maximize speed and body control. This camp offers approximately four hours of on ice instruction per day. Additional off-ice instruction will focus on leg strength and balance.
Learn from experienced Gilmour coaches and players in our spectacular state-of-the-art Athletic Center. The 17,000-square-foot gymnasium has six baskets with glass backboards and the 84’ X 50’ court has the same type of surface that the Cleveland Cavaliers practice on at their facility. The setting is conductive to learning the game.
