Directors' Note and Special Thanks As is the case in many musical comedies, this one appears to end on a happy note. The tyrant who never listens to anyone is silenced and the meek and oppressed are elevated. However, I question if this is the joyous ending for which we may have been hoping when entering the theater. One might ponder if Dauntless is going to continue being assertive or will he simply become the slavish follower of the new Queen Winnifred? What will happen to the womanizing King now that he has regained his voice and the Queen has lost hers? I shudder to think. Yet, I put forth there is a happy ending of sorts to this musical. However, it is not necessarily shown through the major players. When looking at the Jester and the Minstrel, one can see two individuals who zealously stand up for their beliefs despite real risks to themselves. One can look to Ukraine to see this concept played out on a much more serious world stage. Even on a more local level, I have witnessed students who have not allowed COVID to stop them. They have continued to pursue their dreams and compete and perform with zeal when it might have been far easier to just take a back seat to life's challenges. My wish is for everyone to dig deep within themselves to continue to do what is right despite the risk. - Ms. Gay Janis

The Company

This production is dedicated to Cassandra Williams '15.

Cassandra was one of those rare individuals that one is truly blessed to encounter once or twice in a lifetime. She was incredibly intelligent, hard working, loyal and generous of spirit. Cassandra knew when it was time to work and when it was okay to just have some fun. Anyone in the Gilmour family who knew her was incredibly impressed with her resilient spirit. She is truly missed. The cast and crew dedicates this run of "Once Upon A Mattress" to Cassandra's memory. Cassandra Williams '15 October 6, 1997 - March 26, 2022
