WW1 Memorial LA3001 // CREATING LANDSCAPE SPACE // F2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: USING A METAPHOR TO CREATE LANDSCAPE SPACE PROJECT DESCRIPTION: For this project, I took Paul Nash’s We Are Making A New World and broke it down into a contour plan to portray a metaphor for the feeling of solemnity. The black to white gradient is meant to signify death and the final journey to a higher place. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Church Street Plantings LA3001 // CREATING LANDSCAPE SPACE // F2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: VOLUMETRIC STUDIES PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Using the previous iteration, I planted trees and bushes to better define space in the area. The pathing is left bare to emphasis the circulation. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Bohemian Flats LA3001 // CREATING LANDSCAPE SPACE // F2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: MISSISSIPPI DELTA PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In this project, we took were to redefine the space at Bohemian Flats Park. For this I took inspiration from the Mississippi river delta, reversing the process to give back to the river.

Bohemian Flats LA3001 // CREATING LANDSCAPE SPACE // F2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: MISSISSIPPI DELTA PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The canals can fill with runoff from rains and melting snow, leading back into the river. When dry they can be used for better circulation. Around the park, the grasses and other plantings provide more spaces for seclusion or for gatherings. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Bird Sancutary ARCH2281 // DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS II // S2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: INVERTED SPACE PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Using the inverse of a previous model to define the shape it, I created a bird and plant conservatory and sanctuary. The spaces and circulation reminded me of a trip to the Como Conservatory, a place with tall vertical spaces with clear circulation. I went forward with this idea to create a bird conservatory, incorporating the spaces with plant and animal-life, while still allowing observers to walk freely.

Fallout Shelter ARCH2281 // DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS II // S2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: COLLABORATIVE EFFORT PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To begin the shelter, I collaborated with two other peers to combine all of our previous models into one long underground complex. Later, we decided on a more vertical approach, with seperate rooms with different functions. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Fallout Shelter ARCH2281 // DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS II // S2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: COLLABORATIVE EFFORT SPACES PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our stacked model was important to show the scale of our design. We used balsa wood for the abveground structures to simulate the rigidity of actual wood and concrete. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Fallout Shelter ARCH2281 // DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS II // S2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: COLLABORATIVE EFFORT SPACES PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To effectivley simulate the feeling of being in our shelter, we used both close-up and large photos. Our spaces were diverse in that they could be huge open spaces, or cramped hallways or shafts. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Fallout Shelter ARCH2281 // DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS II // S2019 PROJECT SUBTITLE: COLLABORATIVE EFFORT HYBRID PLANS PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We chose wood as our secondary materiel to provide a more natural juxtaposition to the primary material of concrete. We added turf and plant-life to areas of our model to simulate the feeling of trees and being outdoors, along with the natural sunlight that comes in from a shaft extending to the surface.
