Delivering the Gilman Experience

Since its inception, Gilman School has been defined by its offering of rigorous and balanced academic, artistic, and athletic programs; a nurturing and supportive environment that celebrates and understands boys; outstanding and dedicated teachers; and bright and talented students. The School’s time-honored mission of educating boys in mind, body, and spirit is our true north and will forever remain so. It is with this in mind that we excitedly share with you our 2019 Strategic Plan. We are driven by excellence, inspired by our mission, and motivated by our purpose. Our bold plan is to ensure that the very best program, people, and resources are aligned in order to deliver an exceptional Gilman experience.

Our priorities for this Plan are a direct result of the work initiated as part of our 2012-2017 Strategic Plan, as well as learnings gleaned from various comprehensive studies and surveys. Our 2012-2017 Strategic Plan yielded the formation of a Gilman Academic Council, stronger global relationships including our Global Online Academy partnership, the launch of our Athletics Values and Principles Statement, spectacular new fields, and a renewed focus on technology in the classroom, among many other achievements.

Further, our recent AIMS Self-Study work, AIM (Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism) survey, and parent surveys, collectively provided key insights on areas of growth and opportunity. Simply put, you — our Gilman community — have directly informed our path forward. We trust that you will remain an integral part of the journey as we work toward realizing our goals.

Over the next several years, the Strategic Plan will serve as our roadmap for Building Gilman Skills (every boy’s ability to think, communicate, collaborate, and create) and Developing Character and Wellness; Engaging a Talented, Inclusive Community; and Strengthening School Vitality. Woven throughout the plan’s goals is our continued work to:

Eliminate programs and redirect resources that get in the way of the realization of the Strategic Plan’s objectives and the fulfillment of our mission.

Strengthen student success through the use of data to understand and respond to the strengths, weaknesses, and drivers of student performance.

Our Aspiration Affirm Gilman as the leading pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade school for boys in the Baltimore area and as a national model in boys education, known for developing well-rounded men of character who pursue lives of purpose.

Our Mission Gilman School is a diverse community dedicated to educating boys in mind, body, and spirit through particular emphasis upon academic excellence, athletic participation, and aesthetic appreciation.
