California Nursery Historical Park Originally built as a nursery that sells planting supplies, seeds for fruit and nut trees, and later expanded into the park presently open, founded by German immigrant John Rock in 1884, today’s California Nursery Historical Park stands as a long-standing work of a simple and humble gardener.

Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum
Known to most Fremont high school alumni who went to prom as one of the premier prom photo shoot locations, Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum’s history is deeper than just an easy photo spot for Fremont residents. The park acts as a very hidden gem in the vast array of places that Fremont offers ranging from city life to quiet spots to relax. In a way, Shinn Park acts as a nursery, where a large assortment of plants and trees are found. Spring season is where the park
is most aesthetically pleasing, with all its flora in bloom, and its fauna are bustling and busy like squirrels, hummingbirds, gophers, and bees. Features to visit in Shinn Park include its main Big House dating back to 1876, the Kato Memorial Garden with many Japanese garden features, a small gazebo and picnic table area, a beekeeper’s area, and a large red barn in the back popular with photo shoots.

One of the most popular walking trails for Fremont residents, the Alameda Creek Regional Trail serves as both a literal trail and a symbol of Fremont’s connectedness to both nature and a majority of the city. The trail is in proximity to the previous two locations, and extends from the San Francisco peninsula, along Paseo Padre Pkwy., besides Quarry Lakes, past Shinn Park and California Nursery, and tapers into a small stream which follows
Niles Canyon Road and its railroad tracks. Furthermore, the trails provide connection and access to Coyote Hills Regional Park, another popular Fremont hiking area. The trail extends a long twelve miles long, and non-hikers who drive regularly around Fremont and Union City will have definitely driven over the trail on street bridges as a constant reminder to go hiking or enjoy the nature and exercise that the trail provides,

given the irony that the trail is mostly man-made. When walking the trail starting at its official entrance in the middle of the creek off of Isherwood Way, you will experience many friendly animals like birds, geese, squirrels, and lizards. Growing alongside the creek are varieties of willows, horsetails, sedges, and large grass shrubs.
