With a population of only 3.5milion people and an annual budget of $250million, Somaliland is surely becoming a beacon of hope in the Democratization of Africa.

Somaliland has held regular elections and a peace hand over of power between political parties.

The 2003 presidential elections were won by Dahir Riyale by just 80 votes in nearly half a million against Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo.

The tables were eventually turned on 2010, with Silanyo winning 49% of the vote to his opponent's 33%.

In November 2017, Muse Bihi Adbi a former Somali nation movement fighter who had earlier served as a Soviet He received 55% of the vote, becoming the country's fifth president and cementing a tradition of peaceful handovers of power rare to the continent of Africa.

Around may 31st 2021 Somaliland held its parliamentary and local district elections despite the coronavirus pandemic with 1.1 million voters registered by the National Electoral commission and the establishment of 2,709 polling stations countrywide.

Unique about Somaliland unlike in other African countries, once an individual loses an election they quickly accept the results and the change that follows is fully embraced.

In Somaliland there is a habit and a tradition of accepting results and changing power and embracing leadership even outside of the Somaliland National Movement (SNM).

Lastly even though Somaliland remains familiar with poverty and economic- social difficulties.

With more illiterate people than literate , Somaliland is a beacon of hope in the Democratization of Africa worthy of emulation considering it's remarkable democratic wins and successes.
