Bwanika Nuru & Luke Phillip Mathiesen
An interview with Luke Phillip Mathiesen the Director and Co-founder of Fairsole-a ugandan based shoe manufacturing company. He introduces us to the uniqueness, quality, and objective of fairsole as a brand. 1-what is fairsole as a business concept? Fairsole’s business concept is simple. We manufacture and sell high quality genuine leather shoes and other genuine leather products. We believe that with access to the right quality materials; the high skill levels of Ugandan crasmen and women allow us to create fantasc, durable and unique leather products which not only rival foreign well known brands on quality, but beat them on price.
2-who are the people behind this concept? Myself (Luke Phillip Mathiesen) and my business partner Bwanika Nuru came up with the business concept and plan. Bwanika is an expert shoe maker and crasman. He holds a bachelors degree in Development Economics from Makerere University. Myself, I’m an Engineer by training and hold a Masters degree in Engineering Mathemacs from the Univeristy of Bristol, England. We are both keen entrepreneurs. Knowing that much of Uganda’s economy is based on simply imporng foreign consumer goods, we were both keen to develop the consumer goods manufacturing industry in any way we could. It’s common knowledge that to develop an economy, manufacturing is essenal. We were confident that manufacturing shoes made business sense and would allow us to offer employment to many aspiring crasmen and women.
We are product focused; but we’re also very keen on building a sustainable business which has long lasng social impacts. We believe in providing fair pay and skills development for all our employees. Our goal is to pave the way for high quality shoe 3-They are really few high quality shoe manufacturing in Uganda and to kick start manufacturers in Uganda hence one wonthe industry. ders the sort of quality that your brands Email: africanrevelaons@gmail.com, Tel: +256 741 907 968
brings? This is where Fairsole really stands apart from the rest. Making extremely high quality shoes at affordable prices in the Ugandan market is what our enre business case stands upon. We ensure the best quality in the following ways: 1. We import all of our input materials. This includes: Full grain top quality leather Rubber soles Waxed thread Steel buckles Machinery Most of our input materials come from Asia and are carefully selected to allow us to create only the best quality shoes. 2. In addion to sourcing the best quality materials from around the world, we also only hire the best shoemakers and crasmen/women. We’re passionate about developing skills and have strict quality assessment protocols on all our products before they’re allowed on the consumer market. 4-In what ways can you best define the uniqueness of your brand beside quality against your compeon? Besides quality, Fairsole is different because of its unique company ethos. Our brand goes deeper than just making quality shoes and leather products. We aim to develop the Ugandan economy through manufacturing. We wish to empower crasmen and women, young or old, with fairly paid employment and long term skills development. In a nutshell we wish to pioneer the shoe manufacturing industry in Uganda, offering fair paid sustainable employment as well as a high quality and affordable products to local consumers.
5-As a new shoe brand in uganda what is your target market and what kind of corporate markeng strategy do you intend to apply in order to reach your target group? As a new brand markeng will be key. Considering we’re using top quality, globally sourced leather and soles, we have sll managed to keep our costs low enough to be affordable for the vast majority of Ugandans in Kampala. The majority of our shoes can be afforded by lower-middle to middle income consumers. Our men’s corporate shoes and men’s moccasins sell in the range of 100,000 to 120,000 ugx. We will also be offering luxury edion shoes for high end consumers (prices tbc). We will be markeng Fairsole through tradional methods such as newspapers, radio, banners and (hopefully) television. However, we also want to focus on digital markeng. We need a strong online presence with acve social media accounts engaging acve and potenal customers with interesng and informave posts. Text messages and email markeng campaigns will also be important. However, as a progressive and modern brand, we want to move away from generic and bulk marketing campaigns with annoying and pushy content. Instead, we would like to offer bespoke customer driven markeng campaigns, enabling us to more accurately aend to our customers and potenal customer’s needs. This, however will come with me as our business develops. 6-And when does your brand hit shoe stores? We are expected to have finished shoes ready to sell aer Christmas, ready for the new year. We hope January 2017 will be a big month for Fairsole.

Shakira Ampaire Deputy director Uganda Muslim Women civilisation initiative
Its a warm and fuzzy aernoon in downtown kampala and i find myself in a meeng with one of the most vibrant, chrismac and vision driven young African of our day and me. Her names are Shakira Ampaire, the deputy Director of a unique muslim women centric organizaon known as the Uganda Muslims women civilizaon Iniave. The organizaon was founded to empower women in uganda regardless of their faith in an effort to scale up their financial and social well being. The purpose of our meeng is to engage Ms Shakira Ampaire to best help us come to a full understanding of the work, vision, and purpose of her Iniave. And how it best contributes to the future progress of women in Africa. Here below are the excerpts of our meeng and interview. 1-How best do you describe yourself as an individual both professionally and personally? I am a young, down to earth Muslim lady with a passion for women’s welfare, interfaith dialogues and promong peaceful co-existence. I am a Lawyer by profession but a philanthropist at heart. 2-From a youth visionary perspecve where do you see the women of Africa going in terms of economic and social well-being?
I see young African Women leading and guiding our connent prolifically in various economic and social sectors, making us as African people stronger and very successful as a community. 3-As a woman advocate for social and economic well-being what is the classic contribuon of women to their communies away from the tradional contribuon of simply being a mother, a homemaker, and a caregiver? It would involve women sharing their diverse skills with the community in areas such as catering, beading, teaching, engaging in polical decision making processes and among other social-personal development ehancing skills. 4-Where did the idea of Uganda Muslims Women Civilizaon Iniave emanate? Well as young Muslim women, we wanted to give back and help fellow women in our communies to become economically empowered by realizing their careers and skills at the same me remaining duful mothers and wives. 5-Through what mechanisms do you enforce your vision and purpose as an Iniave? We partner up with various stake holders to achieve different objecves. For example in sectors like agriculture we have engaged women with partners like Africa Agribusiness Academy, DFCU Bank (Women in Business), FK Youth Mentoring Network to mentor youth and female farmers. Spiritually and socially, we have
involved women in round table discussions with stakeholders like the US Embassy-Kampala, Smart Girls Uganda, Corporate Muslims, Muslim Centre for Development and Nile Dialogue Plaorm to promote interfaith peace and unity. Other important stakeholders include Media houses that give us plaorms to reach out to women like NBS Tv, BBS Terefayina, Pearl FM and many others. 6-How long has your Iniave endured and how much impact has it registered on ground in regards to its target audience? We just made 1 year this November and amazingly we have achieved most of our intended objecves thanks to the support from various Individuals, Organizaons and Corporaons. We have improved a lot of women’s welfare especially in agriculture and youth mentorship they are at least 200 or more both in Kampala and in the outskirts like Kalungu Disrct near Masaka and in schools in Lowell Girls. 7-What strategy are you using to make your Iniave all inclusive beyond words engulfed in your mission statement? Very good queson. One of our most crucial objecves is to promote Inter-faith unity in the community at large and one of our core values is being open-minded. So our strategy is to look at the big picture which is improving women’s welfare regardless of any faith, we welcome them and we also work very well with stakeholders who share our passion for women ‘s welfare Muslim and non-Muslim alike. 8-How does one become a member of your Iniave? First and foremost anyone can become a member in Uganda Muslim Women Civilizaon Iniave (UMWCI)
female or male, muslim or non-muslim, student or not because we all have women and young girls (e.g. mothers, wives, sisters and daughters) in our lives whose welfare we would want to enrich. Therefore, to become a member one only has to pay the annual subscripon to enjoy all the amenies UMWCI has to offer such as free mentorship, business and social acvies. 9--Inmate me about the woman of the future in terms of empowerment, will she be aggressive, progressive and regressive? I strongly believe that with the right guidance, atude and support, women shall be very developmental to our communies without being aggressive or disrespecul to men in any way. Remember the notorious saying that goes: “Behind every successful man there is a great woman.” Now imagine who wouldn’t want to be successful.
The Battle Of Gifted Tongues
Ever since its incepon in 2009, the ASDL/ The Bale of Gied Tongues connues to empower, movate, and inspire the young African Academic populaon via an organized plaorm of different viewpoints in regards to the crucial and crical issues of our day and me. Over me, many young Africans have been intellectually, psychologically, and cognively transformed and awakened by virtue of the life changing experiences at the Bale of Gied Tongues. Here below are the pictures capturing the events that ensued during a recent climaxing event of the Bale of Gied Tongues Grand Final held at the presgious Kampala Serena Hotel.
Its limited because the man of God can nolonger see in the spirit because his spiritual eyes are deem as a result of the fact that his heart is more focused on the material and not the things of the spirit. The philisnes tormented the children of God for several days being led by Goliath the giant from Gath . The torment persisted because there was no one in the camp of the Isrealites to raise his voice against the uncircumised philisines that were constantly violang the name of the Lord and the God of the Isrealites. There was no one able to raise his voice against the philisnes because no body was anointed enough to raise his voice against the philisnes.
Raise Your Voice Daniel 3 Mahew 16:18 All that God demands, requires, and needs is a man who will stand in divine authority(Jesus Christ), and raise his voice against the acvies of the powers of darkness. Once a man standing in divine authority( the name of Jesus Christ) idenfies the acvies of the forces of darkness in a given place and in a given individual . And makes a bold and confident decision to raise his voice against the forces of darkness then the victory and the deliverance of God has come to that place and to that individual. The voice of a man of God is a powerful weapon against the acvies of the forces of darkness and that is the warranty behind the devil's effort to rob and to silence the voice of the man of God. The devil works day and night, 24 hours a day and seven days a week inorder to rob and to silence the voice of the man of God .
Indeed and infact it was the duty of king saul to raise his voice against the philisne forces but he would not because the spirit and the anoinng of God was departed from him. The anoinng was departed from king saul and now it was upon David and that explains the truth as to why when David shows up in the place of the bale between the Isrealites and the Philisnes . And David is able to raise his voice against the armies of the philisnes that were led by Goliath the giant from Gath because the spirit and the anoinng of God was upon his life. Its uerly impossible to raise your voice against the forces of darkness and be able to win and walk away unhurt and unscratched while leaving a footprint of deliverance and a tesmony of the same with no spirit and anoinng of God upon your life. The first wave of anoinng that was registered in the life of Abraham came upon his life aer he raised his voice against the witchcra in his fathers house. Many mes than not when you raise your voice against the voices of darkness its tantamount to taking a stand against the kingdom of darkness. And aer doing so, the spirit of cricism will come against you but it will not overcome you because the spirit of God and the anoinng of God will fight for you.
Because the devil understands that the only way he can conquer the territories that belong to God and to keep the people of God in bondage is by silencing the voices of the men of God.
Raising your voice and taking a stand against the forces of darkness will take you and expose you to a furnace or rather if i may put it in another way:
The devil can rob and silence the voice of the man of God by geng him to focus on the material rather than on the spiritual.
when you raise your voice against the work of the devil, many mes you will find yourself walking through a furnace but because the presence of God is on your life the furnace will not destroy you.
As long as the man of God is more interested in the material and not in the spiritual then his capacity and propensity to raise his voice against the forces of darkness is limited.
The most effecve and most powerful way to raise your voice against the forces of darkness is by way of standing upon the ground of divine revelaon.
9
The ground of divine revelaon is the rock upon which the called, chosen , and the anointed of God are established to Raise your voice in divine revelaon and no demonic forces operate, funcon and to carry out their divine assignments in shall hinder your divine progress and supernatural sucesss in God without the gates of hell(read forces of darkness) victory, glory, and honor. prevailing against their lives. The three hebrew boys in the book of Daniel chapter 3: Poverty, disease, social stagnaon, ignorance, flesh proclivi- mesach, shadrach, and Abednego raised their voice against es are all strategies of the devil to violate the glory of God that which they deemed not to be the will of God for their that rests on every man and woman of God. lives and in doing so they registered a radical stand against demonically inspired authories and power. And the only way the man and woman of God can avoid being prevailed against by the strategies of the devil to And aer raising their voice and taking a stand against the violate the glory of God that rests upon his or her life is by forces of evil they were thrown in a furnace but they overstanding and being established upon the ground of divine come because they stood upon the ground of divine revelarevelaon or the rock of our salvaon in the name of Jesus. on and they walked out of the furnace intact. No woman and man of God standing and established upon the ground of divine revelaon can be over come by the forces of darkness. This so because the ground of divine revelaon has been ordained in the name of Jesus to the degree that whoever is established upon it will never be prevailed against and overcome by the gates of hell.
Many dear brothers and sisters its me to raise your voice in divine revelaon and when you do so your next walk may be in the furnace but you will survive, you will overcome , and come out in victory, glory and honor. When you raise your voice against the forces of darkness God will also raise his voice on your behalf in every maer concerning your life.
The only way and infact the quickest way to be defeated by the forces of darkness is to depart from the ground of divine revelaon because then you will never be able to raise your voice against the forces of darkness.
Those who think your life will amount to nothing aer raising your voice against the forces of darkness will be shocked when they wake up to realise that your life is more gliering than theirs.
Every now and then you raise your voice against the forces of darkness there is always tremendous fear and panic that befalls and ambushes the camps of the enemies against your life.
Those who ancipate disaster for you aer having raising your voice against the forces of darkness will be fustrated when they wake up to realize the your life is more successful than theirs.
The most effecve strategy of making sure that there is confusion in the camps of the enemies of your life is by making sure that you raise your voice based upon the ground of the divine revelaon given unto you by God in relaon to a specific situaon.
Those who believe your life is the least because of the radical manner in which you raise your voice for God will be confused to wake up one day and realize that your life is more prominent, superior, relevant and significant than theirs in the name of Jesus Christ.
Every me you raise your voice based on the ground of divine revelaon its tantamount to echoing the voice of God Almighty concerning a parcular situaon. The voice of God is the breath of God, the enemies of your life are inmidated by the voice of God because its the weapon that brings them into defeat. when God speaks and makes his voice heard the enemies of your life scaer in seven different way even though they had come in one way. Infact the voice of God is a powerful wind blowing against the plans, strategies, moves and the evil cra of the enemies of your life. Hence in raising your voice , your voice should be denong the voice of God Almighty which is apowerful wind blowing against the plans of the enemies of your life.

77 Days of Glory:Revival Comes To Uganda
77 Days of Glory:Revival Comes To Uganda In the 1900s there was an anointed man of God, full of the grace of God ,and the holy spirit of God by the names of Bishop Joseph Seymour. Bishop Joseph Seymour lead a revival at the Azuza street and this revival has come to be known as the most powerful revivals ever to grace the face of the earth. The Azuza Street Revival was so profound that it ushered and kickstarted the pentecostal movement whose impact and power is sll touching the world and individual lives even as of today. Much akin to the Azuza street revival that endured for almost a year, Uganda has been invaded by the spirit and the power of revival under the theme of 77 Days of Glory as led by the most anointed servant of God Pastor Robert Kayanja. During these 77 Days of Glory, the blind see, the lame walk, the poor become rich, witchcra is being defeated, thieves are geng saved, prostutes are being converted and the rest is detailed here in pictures.
