welcome Welcome to GIA’s 2026 Fall/Winter Catalog! We are excited to introduce you to some new resources including GIA’s first Spanish language hymnal—Tu Pueblo Canta! This beautiful addition to the GIA family of hymnals reflects the breadth and depth of Hispanic/LatinAmerican sacred music and culture. To learn more, see page 4. We are also proud to share a new collection from composer John L. Bell (page 6). In John’s signature way, these Advent and Christmas carols, prayers, and reflections help us see the seasons and the world from a unique point of view. Page 8 highlights a new book that celebrates both the 25th anniversary of the African American Church Music Series as well as the life and legacy of its editor, Dr. James Abbington. We round out our new releases with two new Mass settings, numerous new works for solo piano and solo organ, and a host of choral octavos. You’ll also find our tried and true seasonal resources. Please share this catalog with all those who would find the contents of interest or download additional copies at issuu.com/giamusic. Thank you for taking a look and we wish you all the best. —Your Friends at GIA

TU PUEBLO CANTA is more than a book. It is a treasure: —a treasure that enshrines the journey of the Hispanic/LatinAmerican people, radiates their love of tradition, and gleams well into the future; —a treasure that shimmers in the kaleidoscope of creation’s diversity, with pride and appreciation for Latinos across the globe who have somehow found community in a Spanish-language Mass offered at a local church or parish; —a treasure whose adorning art increases the beauty of the sacred space it will occupy, befitting its place within God’s sanctuary; —a treasure whose sung words will teach the faith, challenge worldly precepts, and compel a fervent lived discipleship; —a treasure whose melodies will uplift the spirit and soul, carrying heavenward the prayers of the gathered community; —a treasure whose embedded styles, character and rhythms will touch the heart once fully effectuated in breath and voice; —and finally, a treasure that both reflects and illumines faith so that it is overflowing with life and steeped in resurrection joy.

When the World Was Not Watching Texts and Music from Advent to Epiphany
When The World Was Not Watching Texts and Music from Advent to Epiphany John . L. B ell For over thirty years, John Bell and Graham Maule sent Christmas cards that featured original texts and designs. Among the texts were prayers, reflections and many carols, but not of the conventional sort. Rather, they took on themes usually avoided: the anonymity of the birth of Jesus, the awkwardness for Joseph of being a surrogate father, the savagery of the slaughter of the innocents.
John L. Bell
With this collection, John Bell assembles these works in one volume, guiding us through the full length of the season from the first Sunday in Advent through Epiphany with a truly unique and inspired point of view. G-11523

new releases Afro-Caribbean Mass Marlon Huie This Mass setting was written to serve the composer’s home parish comprised of families from the Caribbean Islands. Offering a festive and celebratory feel, the accompaniment in the first half of the Mass is in calypso style. A more meditative reggae style is used in the second half of the Mass. Though the Mass setting is notated, it is important to listen to these styles in order to perform the accompaniment with the right Caribbean musical feeling. The Mass is not sung in any Caribbean dialect and can be sung as you would any traditional English Catholic Mass.

DANIEL KANTOR

Mass of Holy Longing Daniel Kantor & Rob Glover The Mass of Holy Longing is intentionally restrained in tone, favoring depth and stillness over brighter, more buoyant spiritual expressions. Some cadences may even feel slightly ambiguous or unresolved, helping create a sense of longing for what is yet to come. Rooted naturally in the threshold of Advent and the restraint of Lent, this Mass may also find a home in Ordinary Time. This Mass can be sung in unison by the assembly, or the choral parts can be added for a richer sound. The Mass also often alternates between chant and meter. The Penitential Act lists four invocation options and a call and response Amen at the conclusion. The Glory to God has a simple chant version or a more festive setting with meter and choral chant and the Alleluia and Gospel Verses have metered or chanted options for choir or cantor. In Sound and Spirit Dr. W. James Abbington, Jr. and 25 Years of the African American Church Music Series Compiled and edited by Brandon A. Boyd
In Sound and Spirit Dr. W. James Abbington, Jr. and 25 Years of the African American Church Music Series Ed. Brandon A. Boyd As we mark the 25th anniversary of the African American Church Music Series, we pause with deep gratitude for the vision and leadership of Dr. W. James Abbington, founding editor. Over these twenty-five years, this series has introduced to the world a remarkable breadth of sacred music from Black traditions: spirituals, traditional and modern gospel, hymn arrangements, anthems by Black composers, sacred keyboard literature, newly commissioned works, and an array of scholarly books that have shaped worship, scholarship, and spiritual life. As you journey through this anniversary volume, revisiting beloved works first brought to light through this series and exploring resources Jimmie so thoughtfully nurtured, may you be reminded of what has been accomplished over these 25 years. Includes 12 selections from the African American Church Music Series. G-11605

Marian Hymn Arrangements for Piano
M a ry JYOTI HENC H
Jyoti Hench The pieces in this collection are arrangements of familiar and beloved hymns that honor our Blessed Mother. They are ideal for Mass preludes, post-Communion meditations, prayer services, weddings, and funerals. Since each hymn uses its typical hymnal key signature, these arrangements can also be adapted as introductions and codas for sung hymns. There are no key changes, so they can easily be shortened as needed using the rehearsal letters. CONTENTS: Immaculate Mary • Hail, Holy Queen • Sing of Mary / Be Joyful, Mary • On This Day, O Beautiful Mother • O Sanctissima • Bring Flowers of the Rarest / O Mary, We Crown Thee • What Child Is This • Silent Night • Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming • Ave Maria G-11480

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen Arr . Emily Strobel A fun arrangement of the well-known Christmas carol, this piece starts off with triplets and intervals of fifths to intentionally convey a message, a declaration of the coming of our Lord. The middle section in 6/8 is intended to flow more freely than the first. The last section is big and bombastic, an exhilarating challenge for any pianist. G-11499

General 2020 design rules:
• The space between the titles and contributors should match the space between the contributors and the forces. Use these two spaces generously. • Note on list of forces: Ideally voices should be on first line, keyboard or accompaniment instruments on 2nd, and additional forces thereafter on separate lines. • It’s okay if the lines of forces are not generally the same length, whereas a balance in the the length of the title lines is preferred, but negotiable. If a 3-line title can be avoided by making the font size slightly smaller, go for it, especially if there are multiple titles, subtitles or an otherwise abundance of data. • It’s okay to overlay any screened design elements in with text, both header and body.

Laudamus Te is a service of lessons and carols intended for use during the Advent season and for Christmas Eve worship. There are seven Scripture lessons, one before each song. The first three carols deal thematically with despair and hope, darkness and light, exile and promise. The final four carols are intended as a lavishing of praise on the newborn Jesus, as the choir and assembly witness together the birth of Christ.

The Announcement of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Announcement of Easter and the Moveable Feasts “The Christmas Proclamation” is specified in The Roman Missal to be sung during the Liturgy of the Hours on Christmas Eve. More commonly, it can be sung before the Christmas Mass during the Night (Midnight Mass). “The Epiphany Proclamation” is set to a traditional chant formula and The Roman Missal prescribes that it be sung on the Solemnity of the Epiphany after the Gospel. “The sacred Synod forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ (Philippians 3:8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ . . . let them go gladly to the sacred text itself . . . or in devout reading, or in such suitable exercises and various other helps which . . . are happily spreading everywhere.”
