A newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers

November 2016

From The President & CEO This year continues to be a banner year for Orange Regional. We should all be very proud of our accomplishments and the excellent recognition we have received both locally and nationally.

Scott Batulis President & CEO

Recently, the Joint Commission announced that Orange Regional Medical Center has been named a “Pioneer in Quality - 2016 Expert Contributor.” This recognition reflects hospitals that have advanced the evolution and utilization of electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQM) and for our specific contribution to eCQM development. We are one of only six organizations in the United States and the only New York State organization to be included in this recognition!

This achievement was made possible by all of the employees who have contributed to the development and increased status of our EPIC system and our Electronic Medical Records. Quality measures assess healthcare processes and outcomes and help to make sure our care is delivered safely, effectively and timely. I’m also pleased to announce that U.S. News & World Report has acknowledged Orange Regional as a 2016-2017 High Performing Hospital for Heart Failure and COPD. We also received national honors from Healthgrades recognizing us as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention™ in 2017. Additionally, we were recognized with the 2017 Coronary Intervention Excellence Award. Healthgrades also named us among the top 5% and top 10% for Coronary Intervention Procedures as well as five-star recognition in this category. For Overall Bariatric Surgery, Natural Childbirth and Appendectomy, we also received five-star recognitions. While the uncertainty of how the new Trump administration will affect healthcare policy and what changes may take place with Obamacare, I am certain we will continue to work hard every day to fulfill our mission of improving the health of our community by delivering exceptional healthcare. At this point, as it pertains to our new President, I am not expecting anything to occur in 2017 that would have a dramatic impact on healthcare in our region, though we will be monitoring this situation closely. In the meantime, I encourage you to keep up the great work that our patients have come to expect. Happy Holidays! Sincerely, Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Celebrates 25th Anniversary

On October 19, Orange Regional’s Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation team hosted a patient appreciation event in celebration of its 25th Anniversary. Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation physicians, nurses and staff, Board of Directors members, executive leadership and employees gathered on the Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Unit to welcome and thank each patient who attended for entrusting Orange Regional with their care. Patients shared their personal stories and appreciation for the attentiveness and excellent patient care they received. Medical Director of Orange Regional’s Inpatient Rehabilitation program, Dr. Vincent Gulfo, was also recognized by the staff for his 25 years of dedicated service.
